Bunche Beach

Bunche Beach

Address: At the end of John Morris Road, Fort Myers, FL

Description: Bunche Beach was historically a black beach during segregation. County-owned park offers lengthy yet narrow strip of sand that stretches from just south of the Sanibel Causeway to a residential area behind Fort Myers Beach. Great view of San Carlos Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Waves are small and water depths near beach are very shallow. A popular spot for wade fishermen and kayakers, windsurfers and kitesurfers.
Pros: Free parking and relative seclusion from busier nearby beaches. Easy to access from Fort Myers area and has only a fraction of the vehicle traffic of Fort Myers Beach or Sanibel.
Cons: No facilities. Bugs can be a problem at sunrise and sunset.
Likely visitors: People wanting a reclusive beach experience.
Getting There: Going west on Summerlin Road in Fort Myers, make a left on John Morris Road and continue to the end of the road. It's a little tough to see and if you reach McGregor Boulevard, you've gone too far.
Parking: There is a free parking lot next to the beach.
