Pit bulls often get a bad rap, but the Humane Society Naples is trying to spread the word about their good qualities.
Saturday there will be “A Celebration of the Staffordshire” in Cambier Park with the goal to raise awareness about the breed sponsored by the Human Society Naples, Truly Nolen and the Naples Dog Magazine. The event goes from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and will include a presentation, a dog social hour and a “Pits on Parade” stroll down 5th Avenue in Naples. The Humane Society Naples said dog owners are welcome to bring their dogs as long as they are well-behaved and leashed.

Ownership of these dogs should require:
1. A very high yearly tax.
2. A very high insurance policy, as they WILL bite someone eventually.
Only two kinds of people have these dogs:
1. The ones that want a watch dog that will aggressively attack anyone.
2. Dope dealers
Who will enforce the tax? easy: Code Enforcement from each municipality.

eltoro, you are wrong on so many counts that I don't even know where to start. You are so misinformed that you should be embarassed.
1) Labradors bite more people every year than pit bulls
2) Pit bulls are the worst watch/guard to have because they are so friendly
2) I personally know 8 people with pit bulls. None of the dogs are watch dogs and none of my friends are dope dealers. Every single one of those pit bulls is owned by a family, a single woman, a professional couple or, in one case, a retired couple in their 70s
3) Pomeranians fail more temperament tests than pit bulls
4) ANY BREED OF DOG can be trained to be vicious and aggressive

That happens to be my dog in the video. I am not a drug dealer, nor do I train her to be aggresive. I have a 2 yr old daughter that she plays wonderfully with and I have no doubt what so ever that there could be a problem. Pit Bulls dont kill people, negligent owners kill people. Granted, i dont suggest wandering into my backyard or breaking into my house because she WILL protect her property and owners.
