The Naples Daily News and its online products drew recognition from the Newspaper Association of America, capturing five Edgie Award nominations Tuesday.
Formally known as the Digital Edge Awards, the Edgies are NAA’s Media Innovation Awards.
Naplesnews.com will compete for best overall news site with two other publications that have circulations of less than 75,000: LJWorld.Com — the Lawrence Journal-World Co. in Kansas — and NashuaTelegraph.com in New Hampshire.
The NDN's dedicated high school prep sports Web site, PrepZone, also captured a nomination for best design and site architecture for publications with circulations less than 75,000. PrepZone will compete against five other sites in that category.
NDN’s online and cable news show, “Studio 55,” is also up for an Edgie for most innovative use of interactive media.
This year brought a record number of entries to the 13th annual Digital Edge Awards, which will be handed out during the NAA Marketing Conference, Feb. 24 to 27 in Orlando.
More than two dozen digital newspaper media professionals evaluated the 200-plus entries based on strategy, creativity, impact and adaptability.
In addition to the aforementioned nominations, the following Naples Daily News/Scripps products were also singled out: CoastalBeat.com as best local guide or entertainment site; and, most innovative multimedia storytelling for an FGCU Interactive created by Naplesnews.com and Daily News staffers.
