NAPLES Six yellow Peruvian lilies and a single crimson rose lay in the middle of Pioneer Road in San Carlos Park on Wednesday morning, the very spot where Tia Poklemba was found last week, moments before she died.
On Thursday evening, about 17 miles south of Pioneer Road, friends and family gathered in Naples, the city where Poklemba was born, to celebrate the life of a 25-year-old described as a “firecracker” with a compassionate heart.
There were, of course, moments of sadness and disbelief.
The Rev. Thomas J. Glackin read a Bible story in which Jesus touches and returns to life a man who had died.
He looked to the crowd. “Who would not like to say to this woman, to Tia, arise and get up?”
In the large crowd at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, only the sobs were audible.
As Glackin spoke, silent pictures of Poklemba faded in and out of the slideshow behind him — an infant in a red and white dress, a blond girl on the back of a brown and white horse, a woman smiling and leaning her head on the shoulder of the man beside her, a cigarette between her fingers.
She was found last week, early in the morning, her body badly cut and battered. Investigators called it murder, and Poklemba’s family has since asked the public for help in finding the killer. She was last seen at a nearby bar, Tiki Bar in San Carlos Park, leaving with an unknown man.
He is described as a Hispanic male, in his mid-20s to mid-30s, about 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches, with medium-black hair.
Earlier on Thursday, detectives released a still photograph of a Cadillac they believe might have been driven by someone who saw Poklemba that night.
On Thursday night, fliers about the murder were stacked on a table against the wall.
But the point of this ceremony was life, not death.
Poklemba’s mother, Debbie, wore a vibrant red dress, a concession to Tia’s taste in funeral fashion, she said. No black.
Friends remembered Tia for her kindness and for her wild streak. Before Glackin began, Jessica Pittman, a former classmate of Tia’s, recalled her days with Tia at the Academy in Fort Myers, when the two got each other into trouble.
They would skip class and smoke during lunch break, Pittman remembered. They had fun together.
After they graduated, the two fell out of touch, Pittman said. And then a month ago, while pumping gas at a station in Bonita Springs, she saw Tia.
The two caught up, and Pittman revealed she was pregnant. They swapped information and looked each other up online.
“I never knew that would be the last time I saw her,” Pittman said Thursday. “I’m sure glad I got to see her.”
Minutes later, Debbie Poklemba gathered the large crowd in the church courtyard and thanked everyone for coming.
“It helps me to see there’s good in this world,” she said.
When Debbie’s husband died years ago, she said, it was Tia who spoke the words her mother wanted to speak but couldn’t. This time, the mother said, she would speak for her daughter.
At the end of a poem, Debbie and her daughters, Tera and Shayna, turned toward a small white box in Tera’s hands. When they removed the lid, small butterflies fluttered out and upward. Some flew into the sky, while others landed wherever they could, on a forehead or a fingertip.
Later, inside the church, Glackin would speak and a few friends would come up to remember Tia.
Meanwhile, Justin Clement, a former boyfriend who lived with Tia several years ago in Estero, sat in the back, his head in his hands. Pictures of Tia were posted on boards around the church hall. The pictures in the slideshow continued going.
“She always told me not to believe in yesterday, to believe in today,” Clement said. “That’s the hardest thing, is that now she’s a part of yesterday.”

What do these posts suggest, she deserved to die because of her past? She's dead, let her rest in peace.

A woman is a barfly who was last seen at a bar, and her past and her lifestyle aren't relevant? I'm sorry the woman is dead, it's a tragedy and all, but PLEASE...The vast majority of people who are murdered are killed by someone they KNOW.

Enough bad remarks. May Tia rest in peace in the hands of God. If you remarkers want to do some good, go out and find the monster.

What is wrong with you people, NO one deserves to die like that. So she was a party girl, that doesn't mean she should die such a violent death. Oh and Harx, guess you won't have to worry about her "racing boozily along" now will you. RIP Tia and they will find the thug that did this to you.
#8 Posted by seabreeze20 on August 15, 2008 at 8:39 a.m. (Suggest removal)
You people bringing up her past are absolutely ridiculous. No one should have to die the way she did.
RIP

I see Harx is making even more inappropriate comments - the ones made yesterday that were removed weren't enough for you Harx???? You are a total jerk. I bet you dont have the balls to say what you are saying here to the face of her friends and family.
Tia may have had run ins with the law - but no one and I mean NO ONE deserves to die the way this young lady did.
My thoughts and prayers are with her friends and family.
Hopefully the person responsible for this will be caught soon and PROPER punishment will be done.

While it may be true that her choice of lifestyle is questionable and may have put her in a very bad situation it still doesn't give anyone the right to take a life in such a violet and horrible manner.
I'm not related nor do I know her, that being said I sincerely hope all of you who have posted negative things on here never have a family member or friend murdered only to read the stupid and mean type of comments made here by some. Please try to have some compassion for the family and friends of this poor girl she may have made some big mistakes but do you really think she deserved this?
In the end I believe it will either be someone she knew or we have a sick deranged perhaps serial killer lurking in SWFL as this was more than just a murder.

I agree with TSOL let this woman rest in peace and lets spend the enegy wasted in this blog on finding the killer. No one deserves to die as she did, I don't care what mistakes she made in the past. Some of you on this blog are heartless. think of the parents and siblings that have to deal with this terrible memory of one of their family members being killed like this. Rest in Peace Tia.....++++

To all the ones, putting down the victim, saying she was at fault, and sticking by your guns. DO ANY OF YOU CONDEMMERS OWN A GREY CADILLAC? Now, whoever of you who has NEVER sinned, come back and cast another stone. The monster is still out there hunting, where are your brains at? One of your own could be next.
#14 Posted by rayroman on August 15, 2008 at 10:55 a.m. (Suggest removal)
Any DUIs committed by Tia are completely irrelevant to her murder.
Harx, are you implying that because she was charged with a DUI, she deserved to be brutally murdered? Maybe instead of worrying about what potential harm a dead woman could do, you should worry about what a living murderer could do to innocent people in our community.
Unless you are perfect, you should refrain from judging others, especially under these circumstances. The lack of class of some people in this area is astonishing.
#15 Posted by Bonita_Native on August 15, 2008 at 11:10 a.m. (Suggest removal)
you know what maybe people should keep there mouths shut. Tia was a good person sure she got into some toruble, but guess what no one is perfect we all make mistakes in life. Just because she got into trouble doesnt mean that this should have happend to her. In fact I cant tell you how sick it makes me that they even bring up the fact that she has been arrested, are you freaking joking she was just murdered in a horrid way. Who are any of you to pass judgment on someone that you didnt even know. Myabe some of you need to take a trip to church and reflect on your self before you pass judgment, on some wonderful person that was murderd... I went to school with Tia since we were young children and she was one of the sweetiest people I have ever met. If you wanted to be her friend, then she would be yours. She was always there for her friends when they needed her. The type of person that would give you the shirt off her back. Life of the party, could put a smile one anyones face. So please before you start talking crap and passing judgement on someone that was murdered listen to both sides of the story.

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.
According to the Gospel of John, the Pharisees, in an attempt to discredit Jesus, brought a woman charged with adultery before him. Then they reminded Jesus that adultery was punishable by stoning under Mosaic law and challenged him to judge the woman so that they might then accuse him of disobeying the law. Jesus thought for a moment and then replied, “He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her.” The people crowded around him were so touched by their own consciences that they departed. When Jesus found himself alone with the woman, he asked her who were her accusers. She replied, “No man, lord.” Jesus then said, “Neither do I condemn thee: go and sin no more.”
Judging from some of these ridiculous posts, some of you really need to take a look at yourselves and ask, "am I without sin?"

So what muliple DUI's give me a break, doesnt make a person a BAD person. Bad choices are made by all, hell I had a DUI but I'm a great, caring person. For example, I really would care about BEATING YOU SENSELESS. Now be the man you want to be and give capecodder and myself your contact info, otherwise stop posting on here. Also can you do us all one more favor? Please go have your balls removed as you obviously dont need them anyway and this would prevent you from contaminating the world with any more like you.

Harx, a young woman was brutally murdered, yet the only thing you seem concerned about are the 'what if's' and 'this could've happened'. You need to seek some extensive psychotherapeutic therapy! You've got some serious issues if you're ONLY obsessed with Tia's past DUI's.
Rest in Peace Tia Poklemba!

Hrax, you have no heart at all.. Did you know Tia? I dont freaking think so! I did I new the real Tia, the Tia that would do anything for anyone. I cant believe that just because she has a couple of DUI charges you think that what happend to her is ok. She was brutally murdered and all you can think about is some DUI's. Crap simply crap, she was not anykind of a time bomb. You need help, cause you are a cold hearted person. What if that was your child and people where saying these things. How would you feel then? Tia you will always be loved you were a wonderful person and are now in a better place! R.I.P

Harx she didnt rely on strangers from the Tiki Bar... So what are you trying to tell me that if she didnt had the DUI's that she wouldnt have been murdered... That is crap, and to naplescitizen she didnt hang out with what you call it unsavory characters. None of that has to do with the fact that Tia will never be here again. Cant you let us just deal with her death and not have to listen to yall talk crap about her being arrested and who she hung out with. She was a nice person good person, and her arrest have nothing to do with her death do you not understand english... Think about her family that im sure is reading everything that is on here. Have a heart.. Tia you will never be forgotten..

Harx, you are truly idiotic. Not that it is any of your business, but your counting is as off as your conscience. You can NOT be arrested for four counts of DUI at the same time, you imbecile. Those are PROPERTY DAMAGE charges. For someone so smug, you should really consider going back to grade school to relearn your addition. You are either truly moronic or a liar, and either way you should be ashamed of youself, you apathetic creep. Anyone that would insinuate that someone was more deserving than another to be BRUTALIZED and left for dead because of a couple of DUI's is either sick or insane. I can only assume dementia is creeping up on you in your old age.
And as for you Naplescitizen, you truly disgust me. Only a sick, sick pervert, such as yourself, would even notice the breasts of a woman who is pictured mourning her sister at her funeral. You should truly consider having yourself evaluated for sexual deviance.
Both of you should try to remember to remove your blue-haired heads from your wrinkled behinds before speaking, as your comments are TRULY full of shi-.

Are they taking this seriously....no? Are you another idiot? Ever heard of last wishes or respecting someone for how they were or what they would have liked. You did not know her, her family does? Maybe because of how she was this is why the casual attire, maybe Shayna new her and new thats what Tia was like....casual, easy going, comfortable? A funeral should celebrate one's life as much if not more than to mourn their death. Reading all this negative stupid comments has made me realize how much higher up on societies I am for not being so judgemental. I will not post or read anymore here, you people who have no compassion are not worth my time, God bless the rest of you.

Its disheartening to me that even the most cold, calculated killers are put to death humanly by our government. Yet, this young woman had some DUI's and you feel that being brutally murdered is okay? What a crock.
I'm getting really tired of all the cowards that hide behind the anonymity of these blogs. They are an embarrassment to our community.

steviep, congratulations on your DUI and still being a good guy.
I know many people whose lives are PERMANENTLY CHANGED forever after they were hit by DUI drivers like U, who are still allowed to drive here, by stupid judges who don't know any better than to allow them to go free to drink and drive again.
Meanwhile, this poor woman was brutally murdered. No one should ever be hurt the way that Tia was, and whoever did this must be caught...now would be good!
Then to post a fuzzy photo of a Cadillac...with a guessed make and model of 2003 to 2007 bothers me ...please give more info. to catch this cold-blooded killer in Lee County.
Meanwhile, to ignore her past would also be ignorant. It's all public record...two misdemeanors by age 21 for stealing, and hated HARX mentioned her DUI's, too.
Now she is gone too soon, and her killer has to be found quickly.
This woman's family deserves answers to start healing from this tragedy.

According to The Lee Clerk’s website Tia Poklemba was married in February of 2007 to a man named "ANDREJUS MARKINAS". There was no record of a divorce in Lee or Collier County. He has quite a criminal past himself. I wonder where he is through all of this. Maybe he had a vendetta against her and had one of his friends do her in. Just a thought.

Sorry for your loss, Steve.

naplesc, BJ and frankz, and other negative posters.
Find somewhere else to go with your comments.
You armchair detectives need to lay off.
Opinions are good when they fit, but not when we know that Tia's family is reading this stuff.
So what if she had a jaded past, or not. The idea is to find the person who did this, not to blame a victim for her own death. Heck, maybe this person will meet up with your son or daughter tonite?
They found the car, now why don't you help find the person?
What the heck is wrong with you people?
And if you want to be as bold as you've been, why don't you identify yourselves, so that we know who to keep away from, socially, business, and otherwise.
You people are giving your own community a terrible reputation, for whoever has been reading this crap.

FreshFace,
Good comment, although we are off topic.
What's up with these a**holes?
BTW, People, the topic is Tia's death, and trying to find the person(s) who did it. Don't loose track of that concept.
Although a jaded past may, or may not have contributed to this, it doesn't excuse the event.
For you people out there, who just want to continue to dig up info on her. Don't you have kids yourselves? Maybe we are dealing with the 65+ armchairs here, not sure. In that case, time for bed.
But, how do you know, that your daughter, or son will not come in contact with this person, have an argument and wind up the same way?
The idea is to find the person ... Don't forget it. Everything else, at this point, doesn't matter.
Naples, I'm ashamed at your comments with this.

newshound to say everyone is 65+ is far reaching, as most people in that bracket are just learning to use basic email, or are on ebay, or are using the internet to check their stock dividends, or art, car, stamp collection worth.
The information on Tia is loud and clear, there was not much digging out there. It's all public record.
I hope they find this aweful creep, and they ensure they prosecute him fully so this never, ever happens to another young person in Lee or Collier County.
If it was a Pelican Bay, Ohio State University Donor, the cops would be on this case in a heart beat.
WHERE R THEY NOW?

So you don't think the Ohio State donor who was involved in a hit-and-run on U.S. 41 a few years back had a different investigation than this young lady?
I TOTALLY DISAGREE W/ U!
I will not give it a break.
Because frankly, she was too young to die this way.
The Ohio State Donor's killer was found, and it was a basic hit and run. BASIC hit-and-run, with a jerk who ran home and pretended he didn't do it.
This poor young lady endured more than we could ever imagine.
NO BREAK FROM THE BEETLE UNTIL THE POLICE OFFICER's DO THEIR JOB!

I totally misunderstood about that. My mistake.
I'm fairly new here, and didn't know about that. But, I'm going to educate myself this that issue.
But, regarding the current case, We owe it to the family to be civil, and caring towards their loss.
The losses that I've experienced with my family members, has been rough enough, without the crap going on with bloggers adding to it. I would probably have to ignore all of that.
Tia and her family are still the focus, not us.

Naplescitizen, You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. No matter what you do to try and help someone you can't MAKE them do what they are not ready to do.
Didn't you know that ol' wise one? You seem to have the answers for everything, so why did you not think of this?
Blaming the family for a person's life???? What a sick person you really are. As if none of them cared for her. WOW, you are one miserable POS. Good luck with that.

I really just wish that people could stop saying negative things about Tia. You people that are saying things that I would not wish on my worst enemy. Let her rest in peace and let her family and those of us that were friends with Tia and know what a wonderful person she was, start to deal with her death. You may thing what you think but there is a time and a place to state your opinion and this is not the time nor the place. So please find some human decency if you have any that is and if you dont have anything nice to say then please dont say anything at all. All you negative people are doing is making things worse. Tia was who she was and no one can change that.. Are you telling me that none of you have EVER gotten behind the wheel after you have a couple of drinks. Just because you didnt get a caught you think that makes it ok, and because she did she is some horrible person? Tia no matter what these horrible people say about you we know that you were a warm hearted wonderful person and we will never forget you...R.I.P.

One drink behind the wheel is too much.
Especially if you are driving in Naples and the police sit and wait at the bar parking lot for people to leave. Plus, it is the reckless behavior behind the wheel, which creates a death trap for anyone who takes the chance to drive near or around the drunk driver. CRAZY!
DUMB IDEA ....don't drink and drive.
I'm praying they find this horrible monster!
The sooner the better!

No one said that it was a good idea to drink and drive...Its not a good idea... Im just trying to make a point that at one point in time in your life if you drink you havent gotten behind the wheel...
So Beetlejuice are you telling me you have never go to dinner and had a glass of wine or a beer and then drove home? Or maybe had a beer at home and needed to run up to the store?

I was a friend of Tia's and I just got on here to see the BEAUTIFUL photos from her Memorial! I am COMPLETELY DISTURBED to read such negative comments made BY NAPLESCITIZEN... THIS COMMENT SECTION ISN'T FOR DISRESPECTFUL AND EXTREMELY ILL-MANNERED PEOPLE to attack Tia's character!! This is where the people that cared for her and are grieving over her death to come and share our good memories and PAY RESPECT to her FAMILY!! The fact that a person like NAPLESCITIZEN gets onto a newsletter about a Memorial service and has nothing better to do but look up a deceased persons criminal record and try to slay her name into the dirt....JUST GIVES US ONE MORE PROOF OF HOW FU*KED UP THIS WORLD IS....NAPLESCITIZEN YOUR JUST AS BAD AS THE EVIL PIECE OF SH*IT THAT TOOK TIA'S LIFE!!!! NAPLESCITIZEN YOUR OBIVIOUSLY A PERSON THAT WASN'T LOVED AS A CHILD OR NOW!!! LOOK AT THOSE PHOTOS...LOOK HOW MANY PEOPLE ATTENDED HER MEMORIAL TO SHOW HOW MUCH THEY LOVED HER...IF THAT DOESN'T PROVE TO YOU WHAT KIND OF PERSON TIA POKLEMBA WAS THEN YOUR HOPELESS!!! SHE MADE MISTAKES IN HER LIFE JUST LIKE YOU...NO ONE can tell an adult how to live their life NOT EVEN HER FAMILY, she had to make those mistakes on her own and learn from them! She was 25 and had plenty of life left to correct those mistakes!! For God sacks NO MATTER WHO THIS KILLER TURNS OUT TO BE...WEATHER HE WAS SOMEONE SHE KNEW OR A COMPLETE STRANGER...HOW HER LIFE WAS TAKEN WILL NEVER BE JUSTIFIED!!! NOT BECAUSE OF HER CRIMINAL RECORD... NOT BECAUSE SHE WAS CAUGHT WITH DRUGS IN THE PAST....AND NOT BECAUSE SHE WAS AT A BAR!!!! NONE OF THAT IS AN EXCUSE TO WHY SHE HAD TO BE BRUTALLY MURDERED!!! GOD IS THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS THE RIGHT TO CAST JUDGEMENT ON HOW WE LIVE OUR LIFES HERE ON THIS EARTH!!! I CAN ASURE YOU NO MATTER WHAT MISTAKES SHE MADE HERE ON EARTH....HER SOUL WAS BEAUTIFUL AND SHE'S IN HEAVEN FOR BEING THE KIND, SWEET, SINCERE PERSON SHE WAS!!!!!!!!! SO to NAPLESCITIZEN AND ANYONE ELSE WHO WANTS TO CAST JUDGEMENT, TAKE YOUR NEGITIVE COMMENTS SOME WHERE, WHERE SOMEONE MIGHT AGREE WITH YOU CAUSE YOUR OUT NUMBERED HERE BUDDY:) TO ALL THE PEOPLE THAT CARE FOR TIA.... NEWS HAS IT THIS MORNING THEY FOUND THE KILLERS CAR NOT FAR FROM THE BAR, THEY HAVE ALOT MORE EVIDENCE AND THEY ARE VERY VERY CLOSE TO CAPTURING THE DEVIL!!! REST ASSURED HE WILL FACE OUR MAKER ONE DAY AND HE WILL ROT IN HELL FOR ALL ETERNITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! REST IN PEACE TIA....YOU WERE AN ANGEL ON EARTH AND YOUR NOW OUR GUARDIAN ANGEL IN HEAVEN!!!! WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU AND WE WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER<3
A NOTE TO NAPLESCITIZEN: AS IF YOU ATTACKING TIA'S CRIMINAL RECORD ISN'T BAD ENOUGH...YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO SAY THAT BECAUSE OF WHAT HER FAMILY WAS WEARING MEANS THEY AREN'T GRIEVING OR THAT THEY DON'T CARE...THAT IS HONESTLY THE MOST FOOLISH THING I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE!!!! OBIVIOUSLY YOU AREN'T A CHILD OF JESUS CHRIST AND I CAN PROMISE YOU THAT WON'T MATTER...WHEN KARMA COMES BACK AROUND TO HAUNT YOU:)

One drink is too much.
If I am the DD, I will not drink at all.
If I am out and about, and I decide to have a drink. There is a business card with a cab in my pocket just in case.
But to be stupid enough to get a DUI constitutes reckless behvior, which will ultimately land someone in jail.
Is it really worth it to take this risk?
No.

Beetlejuice the question was not if one drink was to much or not. The question was have you never in your whole life had a drink and then drove somewhere? On top of that this really has nothing to do with Tia being burtally murdered.

Post # 85 by beetlejuice. "But to be stupid enough to get a DUI constitutes reckless behvior, which will ultimately land someone in jail." Is it really necessary to bring this up at a time like this? Respect is earned, not given and I have just about lost all respect I had for you and your thoughts in the past. This is a time of mourning and celebrating a person's life so show just a little humanity, ok?.

Well put News-hound, Myasmom, and Dreamer...its unbelievable that people are focusing on Tia's past and what her family was wearing instead of trying to help find her killer. I wish they would devote their investigational skills to tracking down the person responsible instead of trying to dig up dirt on someone who can no longer defend themselves. None of what they were bringing up has anything to do with her MURDER....I pray that this Caddy that LCSO just found leads to her killer. Tia's family deserves closure. Tia deserves justice.
To Beetlejuice- just because we have the first ammendment doesnt mean people should use it to justify being cruel and apathetic on a memorial board. PERIOD.People are coming here to remember Tia and look for news on her case. Not to read a bunch of insulting comments from idiots that didnt even know her. Its funny how you think I am an insult to why we are here, but there you are insulting members of Tias family.
