Collier deputies investigate death at Immokalee grocery store

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a death at an Immokalee grocery store over the weekend.

Ramiro Hernandez, 32, of 108 Sixth St., was found deceased at 203 W. Main St. around 3 a.m. on Saturday, according to a highly-redacted incident report.

That address, 203 W. Main St., is listed to the Spanish Haitian American Market, though the business’s phone appears to be disconnected. The property is owned by Ramon Cabrera, according to the Collier County Property Appraiser’s Web site.

The incident report states that Hernandez had a fatal injury, but doesn’t state what that injury was.

It is unclear if foul play was involved.

"It’s just a death investigation at this point," Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Karie Partington said.

The District 20 Medical Examiner’s Office was scheduled to conduct an autopsy, the report said.

Carmen Reyes, 43, who works at the nearby Azteca Supercenter said she hadn’t heard anything about a body being found.

"It’s as if nothing had happened," Reyes said Wednesday.

"It is unclear if foul play was involved." Sounds good to me. Nothing unusual about a 32 year old man found dead 3am at a grocery store with a fatal injury complimented by a highly-redacted incident report. Maybe he hurt himself while trimming his nails? Who knows? At least his family and the public may be reassured that responsible reports are coming in.

In a county like Collier--where we spend one million dollars just on landscaping an overpass over airport road--why do we have a place so depressed like Immokalee? (not that i have any ideas on how to fix it)

Was he a legal citizen?

I don't see any difference between Immokalee, Golden Gate and Lely. Are all these places cesspools?

The human cesspools are in you, the racists.

This is exactly why I don't go grocery shopping at 3:00 am.

We cannot waste tax payer money on investigating the crime if he was not a legal citizen.

So if I'm a legal citizen and I kill a couple of illegals, then I'll get away with it because the cops won't investagate it? Don't want to waste tax payer's money on a murder.

What if the guy that was killed was legal, but who ever did this was illegal? Wouldn't you want the murder deported?

#9 Posted by cjs103a on July 24, 2008 at 8:17 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Does it matter if either party is legal or illegal? Someone is dead under what I would call suspicious circumstances and there is probably a murderer running around on the loose. I dont care if he is green and has tenticles growing out of the side of his head, I just want him off the street. And if the murderer is illegal, I want him behind bars, not immediately deported so he can change his name and run back over the border and live in another area.

Nothing good EVER happens between 2:00 am and 6:00 am?

#11 Posted by RockfordGrad on July 24, 2008 at 9:19 a.m. (Suggest removal)

techie, is there an illegal citizen?

As I read these posts, I am disgusted with what we become when "anonymous". I am saddened to know that all of these inhumane, intolerant bigots live in our community. Then, I wonder how many of these racists call themselves my friends away from these anonymous blogs.

That's a new one for me. According to Webster

Redacted:
1. To draw up or frame (a proclamation, for example).
2. To make ready for publication; edit or revise.

Thesaurus had no match but suggested:
Educated
Dedicated
Retarded

sassy2 Amen on that!!

Techie,

Florida law states that victims of crimes MUST be provided equal access to the justice system, which includes police investigation of crimes, regardless of race, gender, and IMMIGRATION STATUS. Sorry, that's just the law.

Sassy2,

Thank you for saying what so many will not.

Gutta1- I think you are a fake.
Naplestrek - you are incredibly niave if you think illegals are not your problem cause you didn't bring them here.

Because you sound like a cartoon character.
Baggy pants,dreads,gold teeth.
Some things you say are very hurtful, cold, immature to others. You are in a different place perhaps... being so young gives you a interesting perspective but doesn't excuse some of the thug mentality.
You do contribute valuable info. about our society if you are a real person.

You know they're building a walking path to Immokalee from Ave Maria to visit this grocery store, and many other lovely sights along the way....birds, casinos, murders, nature.

What more could people ask for in a nature walk!

gutta1 says "I would murk you and all your friends if you really want to tussle, I'm built for that". Yeah, if 5'7 140 lbs. qualifies...at least he's probably a fast runner...like his mouth.

Since March 6, coyotes have been fingered in a string of attacks against dogs, cats and goats in Lee and Collier counties. Coyotes have killed three small dogs, injured three others, and caused a man who came into contact with the coyote’s saliva and a woman who was bitten by one to have rabies shots.
