Deputies: Man had girlfriend pawn rented TV
A man was arrested Wednesday on felony charges after authorities say he had his girlfriend pawn a television he had rented.
Michael Lafferty, 38, 813 95th Avenue, Naples Park, was charged with defrauding a pawnbroker and dealing in stolen property.
George Beauzieux of Rent-A-Center, 8951 Bonita Beach Road, Bonita Springs, told deputies he received a phone call from Jennifer Augustyn on July 14, telling him that she had pawned a TV that Lafferty, her boyfriend, had rented, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office reported. She told him the TV could be located at First Pawn Jewelry and Pawn, 889 Airport-Pulling Road, East Naples, reports said.
Deputies conducted a pawn check and located the TV at that location, deputies said.
Lafferty had rented the 32 inch Sony LCD TV, valued at $1,249.50, on May 13. An investigation showed Augustyn pawned the TV at First Pawn on June 12 in exchange for $300, reports said.
Augustyn told deputies she did not know the TV was a rental when Lafferty asked her to pawn it, reports said. When she later discovered it was from Rent-A-Center she called the store to report it had been pawned.
