Editorial: Special poles, lights in Bonita

STORY TOOLS

The taxpayers should get what they pay for. They should not have to pay twice to get work properly done.

The city of Bonita Springs, which paid a premium of $400,000-plus for special poles and lights, is correct to insist on lights that work before the Florida Department of Transportation formally signs off on the widening of U.S. 41 north of Bonita Beach Road.

If the FDOT can successfully manage a project a huge as Interstate 75 in Collier and Lee counties, and be ahead of schedule, the FDOT surely can get its hands around the lights on 41. Right?

Are not those poles, lights the same model seen on north side Old 41 and along Bonita Beach Road?
If so, who will pay for their repair, replacement?
