A hotel worker was arrested Thursday after Collier County Sheriff's deputies allege she stole a cell phone and a portable media player from guests.

Niya Pierre, 18, Saddlebrooke Circle, Apt. 6301, East Naples, was charged with theft-guest property by an employee, a felony.

Arrest reports say Pierre stole an iPod and a Motorola Razor cellular telephone from inside two guest rooms at the Naples Grande Resort, 475 Seagate Drive, North Naples. The items were reported stolen Tuesday.

Niya, who works as a maid at the hotel, had signed out keys to the guest rooms that had items taken from them, reports said.

Earlier this year, deputies reported that a teenager identified as Niya Pierre, of the same address above, was arrested after she allegedly hit a Beacon High School employee who was trying to stop a student fight. Pierre was charged with striking the arm and chest of the worker. Pierre also was charged with disorderly conduct.

This doesn't say much about the parental guidance at home, nor about the level of employee screening at the Naples Grande. I hope this serves as a wake up call for both parties.

She'll be back at work at another Naples resort in about two weeks.

It is a shame that some workers have to spoil it for others! Thanks for opening up another job for someone that will appreciate one!

There should be a 3 strikes you're out law for anybody that is here illegally.

Send her back to Haiti after her next crime.

(I'm being very lenient)

How do police know she took the items? The article says she signed out keys to the rooms, but it did not specify if she was found in possession of these devices.

Perhaps the occupants simply lost their electronics and found that placing blame on a hotel maid was the perfect answer to their questions.

Niya: Was it worth it?

The next hotel guest will probably find the phone under the mattress and Pierre will collect $125.000 for false imprisonment and damage to her reputation.
I ran a hotel and too often saw employees accused of theft when it was actually the guest who misplaced the item.

Can someone please tell me why when someone of a different race is accused in Naples, a lot of what I call politely ----heads call them illegal?
Unbelievable.

Whew...glad they got her outta there before I go stay for the weekend.....now I can leave my electronics laying around the room, my wallet on the dresser, and my wifes purse on the bed and not worry about getting anything stolen.

Gutta are you tapping that to know she isn't from Haiti?

#1 Pierre is a French name, Haiti was occupied by the French for many years and many Haitians have French names and surnames, as you possibly do. Think about it.
#2 SOME Haitians will steal anything that isn't nailed, bolted, glued down or otherwise permanent fastened down. Don't believe me? By all means move back to Haiti to investigate my claim Gutta. Haiti is one of the dirtiest, nastiest, filthiest countries you'd ever want to visit.
Why not take a trip to your home country and find out, I will chip in the first 5 bucks for a one way ticket Gutta.

We will call it the Gutta Haiti Permanent Vacation
Fund.

Since March 6, coyotes have been fingered in a string of attacks against dogs, cats and goats in Lee and Collier counties. Coyotes have killed three small dogs, injured three others, and caused a man who came into contact with the coyote’s saliva and a woman who was bitten by one to have rabies shots.
