Quincy Sorrell could be back with the Florida Firecats as early as Saturday night's home game with Manchester.

On Friday, the arenafootball2 team announced they had been reassigned the rights to af2's all-time leading tackler (482).

Sorrell has long been a fan favorite in Southwest Florida. He was voted the fans’ favorite player at the end of the 2007 season. The six-year veteran finished 2007 with 92.5 tackles, good for second on the team and ninth in the league.

Sorrell, who has played as a defensive back, is listed as a linebacker on the team's depth chart. He’ll join a defensive unit that leads the league in scoring defense, giving up 31 points per game.

Sorrell’s return comes a week after Alfred Peterson returned to the Firecats defense. Peterson led the Firecats with 10 sacks in 2007. He also recorded 15 tackles for loss a year ago, good for sixth in the af2. Peterson played a large role in last week’s 39-27 victory over the Peoria Pirates.

"It is great to have both of them back this season,” Firecats head coach Kevin Bouis said. “‘Q’ and ‘AP’ both add fire and intensity to our defense."

Since March 6, coyotes have been fingered in a string of attacks against dogs, cats and goats in Lee and Collier counties. Coyotes have killed three small dogs, injured three others, and caused a man who came into contact with the coyote’s saliva and a woman who was bitten by one to have rabies shots.
