A dead Florida panther was recovered this afternoon from the Big Cypress National Preserve, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The remains of the 7-year-old male panther, an endangered species, were heavily scavenged, and an immediate cause of death was unknown, the Conservation Commission reported. There were no apparent signs of foul play or a panther-on-panther attack.
A necropsy is planned at the Conservation Commission's wildlife research lab in Gainesville, and the hide and bones will be archived at the Florida Museum of Natural History.
The panther, the eighth documented panther mortality in 2008, was found northeast of Monument Lake, a campground north of U.S. 41 East about 15 miles east of State Road 29.

To Iswjth2:
Panthers and The Texas Cougar are the same breed of wild animals, only Florida refers to them as panthers. You can use this web site for information about the mountain lion, cougar, puma; "tawny puffs of smoke so secretive..." They truly are beautiful animals but, they are very large cats.
