Editorial: Hard work rewarded

Congratulations to Joseph Cofield of Bonita Springs Middle School.

He has been named Florida State Educator of the Year by the Professional Educators of Florida.

A look at what he does and the way he approaches teaching history and college prep helps explain why he was chosen.

It had better be a short look, because if it were to last as long as his workday, few readers would have the stamina to stick with it. Much of his work is spent with low-income students. He wants them to improve their grades and aim for college scholarships. Cofield insists that students make achievements the old-fashioned way, by earning them, and works with them long after the traditional school day is over to make it happen.

He brings military training and discipline, and is able to relate classroom lessons to slices of life from his former career. And remember, that’s just a short look.

No wonder Joseph Cofield is Florida Educator of the Year.

Congratulations to him and the lucky students he serves.

Joseph Cofield is one of the nicest fellows you will ever meet and not only is he a great teacher but he gives back many volunteer hours to our community through his work with the Bonita Springs Lion's Club.

This man is a gem. Congratulations to him. We are fortunate indeed to have a man like Joseph Colfield working with our children.
