LJWorld.com of Lawrence, Kan., won the 2008 EPpy Award for "Best News Web Site" for sites with fewer than 1 million unique monthly visitors, Editor & Publisher and MediaWeek magazines announced today.
Naplesnews.com was a finalist for the annual award. Other sites nominated for the award were HeraldTribune.com of Sarasota, the Las Vegas Sun, and 3cat24.cat, a Spanish TV station site.
The EPpy Awards were announced and presented today at the Interactive Media Conference and Trade Show in Las Vegas. The awards honor Internet sites affiliated with the media industry, especially newspapers, television and radio networks and affiliates, syndicated shows and magazines.
CBC Digital Archives' Les archives de Radio-Canada won first place in the "Best Use of Video in a Web Site" for sites with fewer than 1 million unique monthly visitors. Studio 55, the naplesnews.com vodcast, was a finalist in the video category.
Last year, Studio 55 shared the top honor for "Best Use of Video in a Web Site" with AppealTV.com of The (Memphis, Tenn.) Commercial Appeal, another E.W. Scripps Co. newspaper.
Other 2008 finalists in the video category were Cape Cod Online/Cape Cod Times, the Northwest Herald of Illinois, and TV3minuts, a Spanish TV station site.
