Heading into their showdown with second-place Tampa, the first-place Fort Myers Miracle picked up a 5-3 win over the Sarasota Reds on Wednesday night at Hammond Stadium.
The Miracle hold a two-game edge in the Florida State League Western Division entering the three-game series with the Yankees, which begins at 7 tonight. The game will feature a celebrity appearance by “Desperate Housewives” actor James Denton and is Dog Daze I, with all dogs admitted to the ballpark free.
On Wednesday, Whit Robbins’ RBI double in the bottom of the sixth broke a 3-3 tie. Rene Tosoni provided the Miracle with an insurance run with a single that scored Robbins.
Danny Valencia put Fort Myers ahead in the first with a two-run blast to left, his team-best fifth home run of the year. Valencia also had an RBI groundout in the third.
