Sheila’s out shopping: Hi ho, silver!
Platinum is just out of reach these days, and gold jewelry is so expensive, too. But heirloom silver, that’s a different story. I found quality pieces that not only look great, but make me feel good when I wear them.
My first purchase was Trafic, a necklace and bracelet by Peggy Huyn Kinh at Christofle Pavillon. I enjoy the length of the piece and like the weight of the circles ($615). It looks stunning with an evening-out ensemble and yet, still looks fine with a tank top and cargo pants. The bracelet ($760) has heavier round links and makes every outfit I wear special.
Dokou designs from Greece has such a large selection of ring designs that I really had a hard time putting pieces back. I couldn’t resist the large red coral that is thickly banded in silver ($225). The black coral and pearls ($130), brown coral and pearls ($130) and the mother of pearl captured in the large mushroom shaped silver ($400) all grabbed me as well. They all had a distinct look and made me feel glamorous.
Decisions, decisions!
Tiffany & Co. was another place where I had trouble deciding on what to buy. There were just too many wonderful choices. I did finally settle on a ring and a bracelet. I liked how the Somerset wide-mesh band ($175) looked on my finger. It’s something I will wear all summer long, because it is so light and airy. There is also a narrow version with a strip of diamonds down the front ($475). NIce, but I liked the simplicity of the wider one. I also got the large lock letter charm ($125) and the round-link bracelet to put it on ($130). The locks also come with numbers if you are into numerology. Elsa Peretti’s designs caught my eye, but I’ll let my husband buy me her heart ($155, small, $240, medium or $470, large) for our anniversary.
Saks Fifth Avenue had some very nice silver things by David Yurman, John Hardy, Lagos and Judith Ripka. I did like the way the Judith Ripka basketweave domed ring ($400) looked with sterling cables and an accent of 18-karat gold and tiny diamonds. The hoop earrings ($350) have the same design and are a good size — not too big and not too small, just right.
If you want some things that are less expensive but have style, try Silver Wave or Best of Everything. These stores have look alikes of designer pieces at very reasonable prices.
I agree that silver is just right for any outfit, day or night, and for every pocketbook.
