First golf event benefiting Village School offers $50,000 grand prize

The first Village School Golf Classic and Jet Blue Challenge will be held Saturday at the LaPlaya Golf Club, 9891 Gulf Shore Drive. Proceeds from the event will benefit the school's PTO fund and golfers will vie for a $50,000 grand prize.

The entry fee for the four-person scramble is $150 per adult and $85 per child. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and is followed by a continental breakfast. The shotgun start is 9 a.m. Golfers' entry fees include green and cart fees, entry in the Jet Blue Challenge, a tournament shirt and goodie bag, buffet lunch and awards banquet. Golfers will be eligible for a variety of prizes for closest to the pin, longest drive, low net score, low gross score and a chance to become to the 2008 Jet Blue Challenge Champion.

    Since March 6, coyotes have been fingered in a string of attacks against dogs, cats and goats in Lee and Collier counties.
