Barron Collier graduate Kristen Schaus and the Princeton University softball team had their NCAA Regional-opening game with Massachusetts suspended in the first inning due to rain. The game will resume at 9:30 Saturday morning.

The game was tied 2-2. According to the release from Princeton sports information, Schaus and Massachusetts' pitcher both had problems controlling the wet ball. Rain started shortly after lineup cards were exchanged, and the game was delayed for 30 minutes, then started with rain still coming down.

When the game was called UMass' second batter of the inning had a 3-2 count, with the leadoff batter on first after being hit in the back.

One of the teams in the Amherst Regional could play three games Saturday, the maximum allowed in one day by NCAA rule during the tournament. The Princeton/UMass winner will face Stanford at noon, while the loser will take on Lehigh at 2:30. The winner of the 2:30 game will meet the noon game's loser at 5 p.m. to stay alive and play Sunday.

MOLA NOT IN NOTRE DAME LINEUP: St. John Neumann graduate Stephanie Mola didn't play in the Fighting Irish's 9-1 victory over Kent State on Friday. Mola, a junior outfielder, played in 20 games this season and hit .200.
