Lee County School Board Chairman Jeanne Dozier has a terrific idea: How about an advisory committee to the board made up of students?
Dozier figures such a group would complement advice from advisory boards made up of adults and give the board good information about how its clients and consumers think the school system is doing.
Let’s see now. Would one student advisory group suffice? Or would it be better to have three, with one each from elementary, middle and high school levels?
Better yet, why not ask the kids?
Better still, why not expand the idea to Collier County Public Schools, which is starting to see the light about having adult advisory boards on a regular basis.
And be sure to put all of these advisory meetings — of adults and students alike — on television, so everyone can see democracy and education in action.
