NAPLES Estero's Phil Olive, the stroke-play medalist, lost in the second round of the Florida State Mid-Amateur Championship on Saturday at Coral Creek Club in Placida.
Olive shot a pair of 67s to win medalist honors, then beat John Crum of St. Petersburg, 1-up, on Friday. Garrett Morrison of Orlando defeated Olive, 2 and 1, on Saturday in the Round of 16.
Naples' Lee Booker and Charles Alaimo also advanced to match play, but were beaten in the first round. Jon Veneziano of Eustis defeated Booker, who shot a 144 in stroke play, 2 and 1. Edward Kenny of Lake Worth beat Alaimo, who had shot a 145, by a 3-2 score.
Fort Myers' Jacques Legere shot a 149, and missed a playoff for the final match-play spot by two strokes. Naples' Ken Saksa and Fort Myers' Rokki Rogan had 151s.
Bonita Springs' Tim Carpenter shot a 153, and Naples' Greg David had a 164. Naples' Jason Camp, the tournament director for The ACE Group Classic Champions Tour event, had a 162. The Mid-Amateur is for golfers 25 and older.
