Sarah Palin takes the stage with Life is a Highway playing in the background.
3:17 p.m.
Palin has arrived at Germain Arena.
3:06 p.m.
Lt. Gov. Jeff Kotkamp was the last speaker before Palin.
Kotkamp urged voters to "fight for the future of this country."
2:43 p.m.
The wave has broken out in the arena.
Palin's entourage is expected within the next 10 minutes.
2:35 p.m.
Tom Rooney, a Republican candidate for congressional District 16, which includes Charlotte and Hendry counties, said Palin has "renewed his faith."
"She is everything that is right about America," he said. "She represents the very best the United States has to offer."
2:34 p.m.
Gov. Palin is making her way to Germain Arena, leaving the Port Royal home of Jack Donahue. She had been scheduled to start speaking at 2:45 p.m. but unless the bus breaks the land speed record she is going to be a tad late.
2:26 p.m.
Palin has left a fundraiser at the Port Royal home of Jack Donahue and is headed to Germain Arena where about 8,000 supporters are anxiously awaiting her arrival.
About 15 minutes ago the master of ceremonies, Mandy Connell who is the host of Daybreak with Mandy on Wink radio, took to the stage and said Palin was on her way.
"You know how at Christmas NORAD tracks Santa," she said. "We're tracking where Sarah is."
A former POW with John McCain spoke to the excited crowd. He told the audience that while "being a POW does not qualify anyone to be the president of the United States" it does show that McCain has the character needed for the job.
2:23 p.m.
Matt Caldwell is speaking to a packed house. Every seat in Germain Arena is filled, with members of the public crowded together in front of the stage.
Germain has a capacity of about 9,000 people.
1:46 p.m.
Local real estate developer Jack Antaramian stood at the corner of Goodlette-Frank Road and Fifth Avenue Monday morning with Obama/Biden signs to show his support for Senators Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
Antaramian, who had been at the intersection since 9 a.m. Monday, said he had received honks from supporters and a few thumbs-up, but also saw some negative reactions, with people even stopping to talk to him about his position on the candidates.
Antaramian said two members of his family have lost their homes and believes the Democrats have what it takes to turn the economy around.
"It is time for a real change," he said. "I am in a position to help the people in my family, but others are not. ...John McCain said the economy was on sound footing. He doesn't know what he is talking about."
Antaramian, who is hosting a fundraiser for Biden during his visit to Southwest Florida on Wednesday, said Biden would be a better No. 2 for the country.
"Tina Fey would be a better vice president than Sarah Palin," he said, referring to the former Saturday Night Live head writer and cast member who has been playing Palin on Saturday Night Live.
1:43 p.m.
The master of ceremonies, Mandy Connell who is the host of Daybreak with Mandy on Wink radio, at Germain Arena just invited members of the audience to leave their seats in the bleachers and help fill up the standing room on the floor. The MC said she hoped to have it filled by the time Palin arrived.
There is a brief intermission in the pre-Palin rally and the Barron Collier High School band is playing patriotic music. Audience members are waving signs and pom-poms.
1:40 p.m.
State Rep. Nick Thompson for district 73 spoke to an excited crowd at Germain Arena. Thompson, who is running for reelection, said "we are in critical times. We need serious people in office."
1:35 p.m.
Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott told the audience that Palin was a long way from home and that members of the audience should give her a warm welcome and make her feel like home.
1:15 p.m.
The front of Germain Arena inside is filled and the back half of the arena is starting to fill up. A large television screen is set up for people to watch her speech. Workers are passing out red and blue pom-poms.
Outside, there’s still a line of people waiting to get in even after doors opened at 11 a.m. The song “Footloose” blares from speakers as people dance and sing and some chant “Sarah, Sarah.”
1 p.m.
The end of Gordon Drive is blocked off for Palin’s fundraiser at the Port Royal mansion of Jack Donahue. The reported cost for a ticket to the luncheon was $10,000. Members of the Secret Service, Naples Police and the Collier County Sheriff’s Office are patrolling the area.
12:50 p.m.
Craig Brush has seen this type of crowd before at Germain Arena, the site of Republican Vice Presidential Candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's public appearance in Southwest Florida.
"Some hockey games have been overcapacity," said Brush, president of Germain and the Florida Everblades minor league hockey team. "And of course both times Elton John was here."
Never before has a political event brought such a celebrity feel to the Estero arena where Brush expected a sellout of "close to 8,000" people to fill Germain for Palin's speech.
Doors to Germain opened at 11 a.m. and Brush reported that just under two hours later music had begun playing inside.
"There's a lot of electricity in the air," Brush said.
12:40 p.m. and we're leaving the beach club
Palin spoke for about 15 minutes before a crowd of around 150. Everyone gathered at the stage to be close, and some people stood on chairs. Cheered during points of her speech they liked.
Palin wore a button-up royal blue shirt with high collar. Al Hoffman introduced Governor Crist, who introduced Palin. Also on the stage: Crist's fiancee, Sen. Martinez and Lt. Gov. Kottkamp.
12:35 p.m.
Sarah Palin came out of the Naples Beach Hotel and Golf Club and shook hands with several supporters.
When someone asked if Palin thought she and Sen. John McCain would win Florida, she said, “I do. I’ll predict we’ll win Florida. I’ll betcha.”
12:15 p.m.
Two-hundred members of the Barron Collier High School band will begin performing at 12:45 p.m. at Germain Arena, part of the Palin event pre-show.
Band director Kelly Hardman Parker said the band received an e-mail from the Palin advance team on Friday, asking them to perform. She thought it was a great merit to have students participate. They’ll play a series of patriotic tunes they keep in their repertoire at all times, she said.
Hardman Parker pointed out that, if asked to play at a Wednesday rally for Sen. Joe Biden at nearby Alico Arena at Florida Gulf Coast University, they would do so because they’re non-partisan.
The band in the past has performed at events for former Vice President Al Gore, Vice President Dick Cheney, former U.S. Sen. Bob Graham. U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, former Gov. Jeb Bush and Gov. Charlie Crist.
“This is a wonderful thing our band has been asked to do,” Hardman Parker said.
12:07 p.m.
The Straight Talk Express pulled up to South Golf Drive. A crowd of 50-60 people lining the street erupted as Palin and her entourage entered the back of the Naples Beach Hotel and Golf Club.
She waived at the crowd before disappearing into the hotel.
12:06 p.m.
Palin has arrived at the Naples Beach Club.
12:05 p.m.
Oh how it must be nice to be a vice presidential candidate as the convoy is breezing through the traffic lights on Golden Gate Parkway.
The Palin motorcade just passed Coastland Center, which included Sen. John McCain’s “Straight Talk Express” bus and police cars on Golden Gate Parkway.
Officers at 12:02 p.m. reopened Goodlette-Frank Road at Golden Gate Parkway after being closed for about 15 minutes. Traffic had backed up about two city blocks at the most.
11:57 a.m.
Palin’s convoy has now exited at the Golden Gate Parkway exit and is heading west toward the Beach Club.
11:53 a.m.
Police stopped westbound traffic on the Golden Gate overpass, which caused a bit of a backup. A Lee County Sheriff’s officer said traffic would only be stopped long enough to let Palin through.
The Straight Talk Express turned off of I-75 onto the Golden Gate overpass, surrounded by several unmarked black and white vans and a police escort and Lee County Sheriff command vehicle.
11:51 a.m.
At Goodlette-Frank Road and Golden Gate Parkway, authorities shut down north and south lanes on Goodlette-Frank just outside Coastland Center.
Golden Gate Parkway traffic continues to move along.
11:45 a.m.
German Arena is starting to fill up. One volunteer says she expects 9,000 people to attend the event.
Some banners read “Victory in Florida” and televisions screens throughout the arena proclaim the same message: “Country First.”
A half-dozen Southwest Florida are already inside covering the event, with more state and national media expected to arrive later today.
11:41 a.m.
The snowbirds must be back because Palin’s convey has hit some delays. They have just passed Corkscrew Road almost a half-hour after landing.
11:30 a.m.
Palin’s bus is heading down Interstate 75 south with a police escort. Expect road blocks and traffic delays from Pine Ridge Road to U.S. 41 as she makes her way to the Naples Beach Club.
11:08 a.m.
Gov. Sarah Palin’s plane has landed at 11:08 a.m. almost 20 minutes behind schedule. She spoke this morning in Clearwater. Wearing a white blouse and black skirt, she got off the plane accompanied by Gov. Crist and Sen. Martinez. She boarded a charter bus decked out to promote the McCain-Palin ticket. She will need to hurry if she is going to make the 11:30 a.m. appointment at the Beach Club in Naples.
11 a.m.
The doors at Germain Arena are now open.
A total of about six people are waiting outside Private Sky for Sarah Palin to land at Southwest Florida International Airport.
Phyllis Padolsky, 58, and her husband Charles, 59, of Naples came up to see Palin land.
Charles compares Palin’s charisma to the charisma of John F. Kennedy in the 1960s.
Charles says he wants to hear definite plans from Palin.
“I’m a person who likes to hear a plan,” Charles said. “Definite things.”
Phyllis said she may not be able to commit herself yet.
“Well, it’s time to commit, Charles said. “The election if four weeks away.”
There is a mix of Republican supporters and Democrat protesters in front of Naples Beach Hotel awaiting Palin’s arrival for a private fundraiser. Republicans outnumber the democrats 3 to 1 with 30 or so Republicans compared to 10 or so Democrats.
About 6 teenage Republicans were the first supporters to arrive about 8 a.m. this morning.
They stand with signs reading “Feminists 4 Palin” and “Palin Power.”
Courtney Enright, 17, said that Barak Obama does not have a monopoly on the support of young people. She supports Palin Because of her conservative values.
“John McCain has more of a tendency to be towards the independent side,” Enright said. “She just connects the conservative values to the republican ticket.”
Pearl Struminger, 63, and her husband Ivan, 66, protested Palin’s arrival with a sign reading “Sarah Palin is a Fraud.”
“Someone who she never met before walked up to her and said ‘How would you like to be vice president with a good shot at being president,’” Ivan said. Now the entire country is beginning to realize that this person is not a fit candidate for the highest office of the United States. Our goal is to expose her inconsistencies and unpreparedness for the office she is running for.”
Naples Police officer Ian Rudnick said the supporters and protesters are being kept on the west side of the road.
“They are being pretty peaceful,” Rudnick said.
10:50 a.m.
David Willoughby, a member of the North Naples Fire Department fired up the crowd outside Germain Arena with his sign that read “Fact: Hamas Terrorists want Obama to win.” In reaction, the crowd started chanting “NoBama.”
10:22 a.m.
The line at Germain Arena is wrapped halfway around the building with more than 1,000 people waiting to get in the building. The scene is taking the form of a Republican Tailgate, minus the booze.
Vendors are selling buttons and T-shirts to the crowd. Some of the more popular sayings on the shirts include, “Read My Lipstick,” “Drill Now,” “Change has arrived” with a pair of sparkling red, white and blue high heal shoes and pink shirt with an elephant on it that reads “It’s a Girl.”
Two school groups are among the crowd.
The first is 57 girls from Evangelical Christian School in Fort Myers. Their teacher brought them out because she said it’s a good time for women to learn about politics.
The second group is 25 kids from Cape Coral Charter School. They will be sitting in the VIP area on the stage right behind Palin when she delivers her speech.

Alaska Gov. and GOP vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin is scheduled to arrive at Private Sky Aviation at Southwest Florida International Airport at 10:50 a.m. and the Daily News will be following her every move -- and reporting on this live blog.
We have a reporter and a photographer in the Palin motorcade as it heads to Naples for two fundraisers and then to Germain Arena this afternoon where 9,000 are expected to hear the Republican Vice Presidential candidate speak. Lines are already forming at Germain Arena. The doors open at 11 a.m. and we will have another reporter on site to give updates about traffic, parking and the anticipation.
Campaign organizers released a schedule of speakers who will warm up the crowd at Germain Arena for Palin. Rep. Connie Mack, R-Fort Myers, Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Florida, and Gov. Charlie Crist, among other local officials, are expected to speak.

Dems are saying Obama was eight when Willim Ayers did his terrorist activity, but that is not when they were friends, they have been friends since the 90's and served on the same board for the same charity and did a fund raiser in Ayers basement. not tied to terrorists? BS!

Sarah Palin continues the legacy of corruption in Alaska politics.
From 10/05/08 Alaskas capital city newspaper: juneauempire.com
Ethics violation investigation on Sarah Palin expands today to include Workers Compensation
The Trooper gate investigation today was expanded because of evidence suggesting that Sarah Palin improperly meddled with a disability claim filed by Wooten after he fell and injured his back at the scene of a fatal car crash. Wooten's workers compensation claim was denied and it looks like Sarah Palin put pressure on the third-party claims adjuster to deny the claim. The claims adjuster may have had a financial incentive to comply with a request from the governor's office because of the importance of its state contract. State of Alaska records show it paid Harbor $1.32 million last fiscal year to handle workers compensation claims. Investigation continues....See //www.juneauempire.com for story.

LieStopper,
The last time I looked, neither the Saudi government nor Haliburton were considered terrorist organizations. You might not like their policies or the fact that they may go to lengths that you do not appreciate in order to make a profit, but that does not make them terrorists.
Ironside,
Lets see, Biden will be here Wednesday and Palin is here today. So they have a live blog update on the candidate that is in town today. On Wednesday they will have a live blog on Biden, because that is when he will be in town. Just because it does not match your political agenda does not make it unfair. Or should we have a 24/7 on the dems because you think they should? Breaking news!!! 11:35 am Joe Biden takes a bathroom break in Kansas! Be real Ironside.

MEET SARAH PALIN!
This woman has NO CLASS!
This is the kind of character Sarah Palin is made of:
Palin finds humor with insults about cancer hurled at cancer suvivor.....
Compassionate Conservative Sarah Palin LAUGHS like a sick teeny-bopper as shock jocs make disgusting jokes on a cancer survivor that happens to be a Republican rival of Palin.
And this is the Republican Party's nomination for Vice President of the United States of America. Where's the dignity?
McCain's vetting process was a huge FAILURE!

Mongoose,
Actually, go look it up on either of the Chicago papers, Tribune or Sun Times, as it was reported at that time. CNN is not the place to get unbiased reporting as evidenced by Wolf Blitzers continuing on air diatribe agains both McCain and Palin. I look for unbiased reporting myself, not a network that may espouse its political views.

Oh, RE: .."dems being scared of Palin"
I have one comment: I am not scarred of her. As a matter of fact, I am a former repub who actually liked McCain in past (2000). What makes me angry is the fact that he selected her, out of nowhere. Once that happened, all repubs started to back her, as if they knew about her all along - you didn't! That is why her numbers are going down. I am angry b/c repubs will stand behind her like she is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I'd love to see her run in the primaries for 2012, it'll be a joke. Obama landslide predicted. Sorry repubs.
Oh, and the papers she reads must be old, because she is spewing old dis-proven smears. She's just trying to learn, I know.

I never said it wasn't a wise idea for Obama to serve on the same board, but, Ayers isn't in jail. He's a free man out and about. Since I took that in, you have to look at McCain's same affiliation with G. Gordon Liddy. Look it up in the same Chicago Tribune, or MediaMatters link here:
http://mediamatters.org/items/2008100...
We could go titt-for-tat, but you have to admit, in the end, McCain has nothing to stand for. Privatizind SS? Look at the market, what a grea idea!! Repub days are numbered, and it's a sinking ship.

The McCain/Palin campaign just called me wanting my support.
The lady was extremely uninformed. She didn't even know about John McCain giving away classified information to the Viet Cong when he was a POW.
It's rather amazing how little these people know. They vote uninformed. It's no wonder we were stuck with Dubya for a second term. The Republicans don't care about America. They care much more about partisanship!
And the DOW is in a free-fall today.
This is why the McCain campaign said they couldn't the election talking about the economy and would instead go for the personal attacks.
HOW CLASSLESS and DESPERATE!
There’s no level too low for McCain to stoop. He's at the level of dinosaur dung now.
McCain has conceded Michigan. Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida will be next.
WOO HOO!

Mongoose
Ayers isn’t in jail because he managed to evade capture by the police until after the statute of limitations.
A few other facts about Obama:
Stated he put himself through Harvard. Actually his school was funded by a Texan who acts a a financial advisor to the House of Saud. That would be the Saudi Royal Family.
Does not lobby for ear marks, except the $2.5 million for the University of Chicago who hired his wife just after receiving the earmark.
Was a Community Activist, who at the same time worked for a law firm which represented the landlords at the same tenements that Obama was organizing.
Just to name a few.
Sorry Mongoose, too many fish in the room for me.

I have NEVER voted Republican . I'm from a Democratic state/city. I believe in many liberal ideas (Yes, bleeding heart) . But when Obama won the Dem ticket I really started to look at McCain. It's not because Obama is black, or has a Musslim name, or didn't choose Clinton as a running mate (although that makes no sense)...it was because I didn't know if he has enough experience. I couldn't believe I was actually thinking of going Republican, but I really want what is best for our country . BUT...when Palin came on the ticket...I RAN toward Obama and Biden. OMG, she is not articulate, she has no clue what is going on in the continental US, she can't speak well in front of people and quite honestly, I don't believe in moving backwards as a woman. I feel Obama and Biden would be the best decision seeing has I believe in health care for all (especially being quite ill myself), I believe in helping the middle class more, I believe in choice (I do not want a man telling me what to do with my body. God, if I became pregnant I'd be elated!!! But I believe in choice--I don't want to think what would happen if roe v wade were overturned, I believe in getting the heck out of Iraq and letting their money fund their change. It was wrong to go there, but we went, now let's move on. They can help take it from here)...In complete honesty it was Palin that blew it for McCain. I hate to speak unkindly of my fellow woman, so I won't, but she is not up to par in any way, shape or form for the White House. imho

Fresh Face,
Actually, in an interview last week Palin stated that if she were personnaly councelling someone she would council against abortion. She went on to state that no one should ever go to jail for having or giving an abortion. That is, personnaly she is against it, legally she see no reason it should not be an option. Unfortunately, when one of the Republicans states something live in our media that is articulate and makes sense, the media buries it.
I have heard her answer a couple of questions where her answers were not clear, but I have heard the same from Joe Biden as well. Unfortunately, it is Political Speak. I have not made up my mind, except I have to say that I am truly tired of the media telling me what to think about our political candidates. It is time for the talking heads to shut up and let the American people hear the questions and answers and make up our own minds as to whether the answers make sense or not.

FreshFace,
Obama was a state senator in Springfield, learned his politics in Chicago and now represents the state of Illinois. How is he not a Chicago Politician?
Next time your in Chicago go to 45th and Western or Capreenee Green and tell me that our problems are worse than Chicago’s. Lake Shore Drive is only one street and the Loop is one neighborhood out of hundreds. If you want more names of run down slums that are everywhere in Chicago, I can give you dozens.

McCain/Palin ticket is crumbling. All I hear are the hisses of a dying snake. How desperate are they to have to bring up the Ayers association, yet again! That has been investigated numerous times. Don't they have anything else? And McCain chosing Palin to court Hillary's disgruntled voters was a cheap ploy. How dare he even think she is qualified to be V.P. if he died in office. What a gross lack of common sense and responsible thinking. Here we have had to put up with Darth Vader for the past 8 years as V.P. and now McCain wants to give us Betty Boop??? And Florida should be overwhelmingly for McCain. It's not!! Can't believe it, smartening up are we????

Your disagreeing does not make it so. The House of Saud is recognized internationally as the legitimate government of Saudi Arabia. While it has been proven that there are organizations within Saudi Arabia that have either funded or acted as terrorist, there is not proof that either the House of Saud or any government agent or agency within or connected to Saudi Arabia has engaged or financed terrorist activities within the bast ten or more years.
I was there on 9-11 and lost several good friends, and believe me if there had been any connection to the Saudi government I would not be stating this.
Next you’ll be telling me that it was all planned by Dick Chenney.

McCain wants to continue spending $10 billion a month in Iraq.
Our national defiicit is at $9.5 trillion and rising.
China owns $1.8 trillion of our debt and rising!
If this doesn't concern you, IT SHOULD!
Obama will create jobs in the United States by giving tax breaks to the companies that employ Anericans instead of sending our jobs to China and India. McCain supports the tax cuts for companies sending our jobs overseas.
He'll raise taxes on corporations sending our jobs overseas.
McCain: "My friends, the jobs aren't coming back."
Obama will also create an estimated 5 million jobs with innovative technology in energy for our homes and automobiles.
Under Clinton we had an increase of 20.4 million jobs in the United States.
This year 764,000 jobs were lost in America, last month we lost 159,000!
.
Unemployment is currently at a stagering 6.1%. That's a five year high!
George Bush had utilized his veto powers in his first 6 years of office only one time. During that 6 year period the Senate and Congress were made up of a Republican majority. He's utilized his veto powers 11 times in the past 19 months. In those 19 months the Senate and Congress had a small Democrat majority, making impossible to over-ride a veto without Republican support. It requires 2/3 of a majority to over-ride a presidential veto.
This has made it very difficult (or virtually impossible) for the Democrats to repair in 19 months what it took the Republicans 6 years to break.
Hopefully America can recover from this disastrous and irresponsible Administration that John McCain has voted in support of time and time again.

Some of you people are really sick.
If you do not know how Obama / Biden will fix the problems we have, you should spend less time blogging and more time reading their plans.
Ignore the stupid media and sit down with the candidates' plans (Obama and McCain have their plans on their website) and learn what they do.
I had a job transfer here and have grown up in the south. It is easy to see why southwest Florida gets its bad reputation....because it is true.
There are two republicans down here: 1) those that are wealthy beyond belief and that are just greedy with their money and feel they should own the world and there there are 2) working class republicans that are suffering through hard times like everyone else.
Unfortunately those that belong in #2 are going to vote for a ticket that is going to continue this painful economic policy we are following now.
McCain = Bush on economic policy. You voting for McCain and Palin will give us more of the same crap that is causing us to suffer.
If you think you are in bad shape now, then you better hope to your God that Obama becomes presdint. McCain's economic policy will make those wealthy brats even more wealthy and caause everyone else to suffer even more.
Go ahead working republicans, shoot yourself in the foot.

Refreshing? Really? Sarah Palin? I'm embarassed that we might have her represent us to foreign nations. Will she be winking at them? Will she be talking unprofessionally? You dog-gone betcha she will be. How can you be serious? I truly don't get it. What is so refreshing about her?
We will be led by a person (I don't care that she's a woman... so am I) who doesn't understand what she is talking about. I know that all politicians have advisors and get "coaching" from their party supporters, but she is beyond that. Mispronouncing names, avoiding questions, babbling on and on to hide the fact that she can't answer the question.
I can't help but think that the people who are supporting her are really not that intelligent if they can't see all that. It seems so blatantly obvious. Or maybe they are just die-hard republicans that are afraid to admit that McCain really screwed up by choosing her and have to try and help make her look good. It's not working.

Carrot_Stick,
Past actions speak louder to me that polititians stated plans on their websites. I have read both by the way. Obama's actions and associations do not match his platform, so I can not believe that this leapord will all of a sudden change his spots once he gets into office.
Read his message, sure, but also research his past. Look at the legislative records in Illinois and the US Senate and read what his home town newspaper has written about him through the years. That would be the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun Times.

I'm really disappointed that 29 days before the election the candidates are resorting to mud slinging (guilty by association). Especially when the country is in the state that it's in. I didn't think that the Dems would bow down to this tactic but I guess it's hard to take a punch and not get up swinging.

I agree with you Blusox. As a woman and a mother of two daughters I was excited to see a female, once again - now in our day, get this close to becoming VP of the US. Having said that, I don't understand why so many people give her so much credit. It is not enough to just be a woman. If she was a man and acted / spoke exactly the same America would bury her.
McCain picked Palin and that's that. No turning back. Admitting they were wrong would kill the ticket so their only option is to work with what they have.
#64 Posted by Gator4Life on October 6, 2008 at 2:45 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Gator4Life,
Mud slinging is a very old tradition from both parties. It has been around in this country since George Washington was running for office. I agree it is too bad that we can not get past it and somehow get a reliable and accurate report as to the candidates pasts and current stands as well as detailed explanations as to why they may have voted this way or that or done what they did, but this is American politics and the mud seems to go along with the job.

What matters right now is the economy and our future. McCain will destroy both and is obviously willing to lie and smear to get there.
Both candidates are using more and more smears now, but which one is trying to stay on the topics that concern the American people today....Obama is. He has a plan and he has chosen a helluva great VP with strong foreign policy experience.
Unfortunately the repulicans that are blogging here are convinced that McCain's policies will make the needed change. What a sad world we live in when someone that votes with Bush 92% of the time can convince their base that they will 'change washington'. What a joke McCain is and his followers.....that group will certainly destroy this country. Look how much damage they (you republicans) have done over the past 8 years....another 8 years and I wonder if we will even have food on the table....some of us already can't afford it.

I am a woman and honestly I was just disgusted that this is the kind of woman that the Republicans are offering America as their Vice Presidential candidate. Palin had to stoop this low just to be noticed? She's not even half the woman Hillary Clinton is. I agree with blusox, Palin is an embarassment to us women. She obviously doesn't know what she's talking about. I watch her speeches and I get the impression that they are always rehearsed and that they're not really her opinion. I think she is a fake and I'm getting tired of her using the word maverick. She's not one, so stop claiming to be one. Before she got nominated as Vice President I was thinking that McCain would do a good job as President but with him picking Palin as her VP my vote will definitely go to Obama. She reinforced my low opinion of her when she had to resort to this mudslinging just for the sake of trying to salvage a dying campaign. How sad for the Republicans, really. Week by week, they're showing that they have no class at all with the way they've been campaigning. McCain was trying to show that he was interested in fixing the economy but their actions say otherwise. This is the kind of leaders that America does not deserve.

McCain gave up classified information to the Viet Cong when he was a POW.
John McCain said (during his acceptance speech), "And they (the Viet Cong) broke me. When they brought me back to my cell, I was hurt and ashamed, and I didn't know how I could face my fellow prisoners."
Some POWs did that, some didn't. McCain was one that did it!
One must wonder how Americans were captured or killed because of the "Songbird" singing to the Viet Cong!
And the Republicans dared to mock the Purple Heart medal at the 2004 Republican conventions. Imagine, had it been John Kerry that co-operated with the Viet Cong, like John McCain did!

Pakistan has just had a change of government and that new government today stated that India, their traditional enemy is not as big a threat as the terrorists in their own northwest territories. The previous government in Pakistan may not have been as diligent as we would have liked against the terrorists. But the fact of the matter is that the area in question has not been effectively governed since the Bactrian Empire. Osama bin Laden would love it if we started a war with Pakistan, who is trying to be an ally.
