Letter of the Day: God forbid
Editor, Daily News:
Just curious how drunk one can be and what one’s blood alcohol content (BAC) level can be to still be able to drive, talk and function in society.
Read in the paper that someone from Collier County was pulled over with a .441 BAC level. When one has a level that high, the only way they are caught is by a DUI checkpoint and/or an accident (God forbid — but they happen). They are the so-called functional drunks.
Around 1989-90 I was broadsided by one of these “functional drunks.” My work truck was flipped 21⁄2 times at the corner of J&C Boulevard and Airport-Pulling Road on a Saturday at 7 a.m.
I had a truck full of materials and a full tank of gas.
One thing I was thankful for: my 5-year-old son was not with me. At that time, I usually worked half days on Saturday and took my son with me.
To make a long story short, I got a so-called tennis elbow injury, my tools were scattered to Trade Wind Drive and my truck was laying on its roof. My crushed hearing aids went under the roof of the truck. I really was waiting for the truck to explode.
The perpetrator had a six-pack on the seat, a fifth of whiskey between his legs and he just left a party to go to work — this all at 7 a.m.!
His BAC was .489.
I thank my lucky stars for not having my son there, and living through it.

Their work carries on
Editor, Daily News:
To the Fedelem family, regarding your letter to the editor on Wednesday:
Luther R. Jones Sr. is my dad and he started his career with the city of Naples Parks and Parkways division back in the 1970s also.
If I’m not mistaken, your dad, Terry Fedelem, was his boss. My dad worked his way to vice superintendent of that division.
After about 20 years of service, he retired. He, too, contributed to the beautification of Naples. He was brilliant in his knowledge of horticulture and the people. All who knew him loved him, and he was considered a friend to practically all the residents in the area.
He barely got a pat on the back from the city of Naples when he retired and even less when he passed away on Sept. 11, 1997. We were expecting a park bench with his name on it or something. We wanted newcomers to this town to know that Luther R. Jones Sr. was here and he loved Naples. My dad had devoted his life to his job and this city.
I am truly sorry (but not surprised) by your dad’s loss of his life’s work. If I remember correctly, my dad spoke about Terry often and he was very fond of him. My heart goes out to your family.
I believe Terry, Luke and all the other men and women who helped beautify this town will not be forgotten. Their work lives on through the seeds they planted in the ground and in the hearts of their children.

Editor, Daily News:
Maverick John McCain has hit one out of the park!
Sarah Palin is a gem, a politician who has actually done something in her career. As mayor of a small town, she reduced taxes by 40 percent. As a member of the Alaska Oil and Gas Commission, she accused a fellow commissioner, who also headed the Republican Party, of dishonest behavior, and he was subsequently removed and fined.
She bucked the Republican establishment, the Frank Murkowski-Ted Stevens clique, then beat sitting Gov. Frank Murkowski in the primary and licked a former governor in the general election.
This is the Murkowski who appointed his know-nothing daughter, Lisa, to the U.S. Senate.
Palin led the opposition to Stevens’ bridge to nowhere, halted work on pure-pork projects and fired state employees who were too close to corporate lobbyists.
Palin favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and hunts moose.
What’s not to like? This is a real American woman!

Caring and sharing
Editor, Daily News:
I am writing to thank the community for its overwhelming support of the school-supply drive for homeless students spearheaded by the Red Cross, in particular by employees Denise Rowe and Deanna Cleary.
The amount of school supplies donated for all ages was phenomenal! The supplies, everything from crayons to scientific calculators, completely filled two large trucks and were delivered by volunteer drivers to the school district office for distribution to the various schools.
Because of the generosity of the community, students identified as homeless (living in shelters, living in motels, living with two to three families in shared housing, or teens trying to survive on their own) were able to be prepared with adequate supplies to begin the school year.
Thank you, Collier County, for showing such concern for these students!

Can we get it back?
Editor, Daily News:
In my youth I would have been incredulous that a Russian leader such as Vladimir Putin could make the absurd charge that the United States orchestrated the start of a war, such as the conflict in Georgia. Surely a U.S. president would never act so irresponsibly and then lie about it.
Now, unfortunately, I am not so sure that such a charge by Putin is absurd.
From the Gulf of Tonkin to Watergate, Iran-Contra, “read my lips,” Monica Lewinsky and weapons of mass destruction, I have learned to question more and trust less.
Now I accept uncritically very little, if anything, I am told by my government.
I have lost confidence in our leaders, belief in our nation’s integrity and pride in our flag. More than anything else, I mourn the loss of that childlike faith in my country.
What I want most from the next president is that he restore the country of my youth.

Frustrating
Editor, Daily News:
Is there any reason for the lane closure on Immokalee Road under Interstate 75 during the morning rush hour? It is extremely frustrating each day to endure this traffic jam, not to mention the burning of expensive, wasted gasoline for our cars.
Many of us do have jobs and appointments to get to and invariably only one lane is open to traffic, while the workers are standing alongside the road chatting. Why can’t this work be done during the night hours?
All of us who live east of I-75 in North Naples have endured Immokalee Road construction for the past three years and it is still not completed! The iROX team seems to be doing a great job with the I-75 project with minimum inconvenience to motorists and they are ahead of schedule!
An entire bridge in Minneapolis was completed in a year; what is the problem on Immokalee Road?
Kudos to the county for the landscaping project now in progress west of I-75. How long will it be before we see landscaping east of I-75?

Her way works
Editor, Daily News:
I read of an attempted smear of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as a tool of Big Oil.
If she is, we could use a tool like that!
The Alaska Permanent Fund is established by the state’s legislature for the citizens of the state to share in the sale of the state’s minerals, most specifically oil.
Under the regime of her predecessor, revenues were falling despite skyrocketing oil prices. Once in office she told the Big Three (BP, Exxon Mobil and ConocoPhillips) to submit bids for a new pipeline. When they refused, she gave the job to TransCanada and raised taxes on the oil they pumped.
The result this year is a check for $1,200 each for every man, woman and child in the state. Some $4,800 would sure ease the pain of a family of four here.
That, I believe, is taking care of your people!

Circus to the real world
Editor, Daily News:
Two nights in a row I enjoyed watching the Big Democratic Circus.
The Clinton duo as usual was in a disingenuous tone.
In a country where women’s rights, women’s clubs and activist women are above the roof of the Capitol, how come the “eloquent” Barack Obama didn’t choose this poor thing — Hillary Clinton — as a running mate? What deafening deception! I felt betrayed. Ah hah!
Finally, good news arrived to make me forget the big circus: Sen. John McCain chose his vice president — Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska. She is well known for her energy, honesty and courage.
Even though I am not an activist feminist, I think many women will be satisfied with this particular lady. She is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, anti-abortion and wants to take advantage of rich Alaska clean coal and shale oil.
She is not a Washington insider! Unlike her detractors, she has the good experience of conducting a high-level job as governor of that big state.
I hope, for the sake of our country, that the silent majority will vote for this ticket.
It will be a change!

Let’s Make a Deal II
Editor, Daily News:
Developer Jack Antaramian obtained the acreage of the former Grand Central Station shopping center located near Goodlette-Frank Road and Fifth Avenue South a few years ago, with a plan to turn it into a shopping/living quarters project.
Unfortunately, between the time the land was acquired and building was to commence, the bottom fell out of the economy, particularly the housing and retail-establishment market.
Jack put the project on hold.
So now he is stuck with a large, unusable piece of land.
But wait a minute! Jack has developed several fine-looking projects in and around Naples. He has earned the status of fair-haired boy in the community.
So now, according to an article in the Daily News on Aug. 29, there are going to be discussions, whereby the city of Naples will purchase 22 acres of Jack’s land for a “city park.”
Lucky Jack!
Hey, City Council, I recently got stuck on a real estate deal that went sour because of the falling market. How about bailing me out?

Get ready, get set, vote ’no’
Editor, Daily News:
Please vote no on Amendments 7 and 9 this fall! These deceptive proposed amendments to the Florida Constitution will gut public schools and raise taxes.
If public funds flow to private schools, the budget to run public schools will only decrease by a fraction of the amount that flows to private schools. Taxes will have to be raised to replace most of the money lost to private schools.
Dishonestly using the guise of “religious freedom,” the ideologues former Gov. Jeb Bush appointed to the Florida Taxation and Budget Reform Commission have put the disastrous Amendments 7 and 9 on our ballot.
If passed, Amendment 7 will force the state of Florida to use the public treasury to fund religious schools (not only parochial and Christian schools, but also Islamic madrassas and Wiccan or pagan schools).
Amendment 7 will remove from the Declaration of Rights in the Florida Constitution the following: “No revenue of the state or any political subdivision or agency thereof shall ever be taken from the public treasury directly or indirectly in aid of any church, sect or religious denomination or in aid of any sectarian institution.”
Amendment 9, under the guise of securing a certain level of funding for classroom instruction and without mentioning vouchers, will require using public money for private-school vouchers. The level of funding referred to in the amendment is a feel-good stalking horse — most school districts already meet this level.
Vote no on Amendments 7 and 9 to support Florida’s public schools!

Team greatness
Editor, Daily News:
Sen. John McCain showed himself to be one very smart guy by selecting Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate in November. The Alaska governor is very bright, exceptionally articulate and filled with overflowing energy.
Sen. Barack Obama decided the nation was not ready for a woman vice president. He concluded that there was no woman in the Democratic Party who was capable enough to serve as vice president of the United States. He demonstrated inexcusably poor judgment and a pomposity that will not be forgiven by any clear-thinking female.
McCain, on the other hand, by selecting Palin, made it clear that his commitment to the American people to effect change in Washington is absolutely sincere. Palin comes with no Washington baggage and a clear desire to help to build an America better for all of us.
McCain’s selection is bold and challenging. It’s a selection that says to all of us: If you want in the White House a combination of an American hero with global experience and a dynamic woman anxious to change Washington, the choice is clear. The McCain-Palin team will, together, move America towards greater greatness!

‘Nonsense’
Editor, Daily News:
I think it is downright sad that WGCU/WMKO is changing to “talk radio.”
Don’t we have enough talk radio already? They were the only stations with classical music and now they’re going down the tubes.
Oh, right, if you want to hear classical music, buy a special radio. Nonsense. Not everyone is able to do that.
It makes as much sense as having to be forced to buy a “converter box” for televisions that use antennas and not cable.

‘I’ll bet you a kiss’
Editor, Daily News:
On Aug. 13 an interesting article appeared in the Neapolitan section of Daily News headlined: “Rich, Luxurious and Vegetarian.’’
La Zucca Magica in Nice, France, has these words in French on an awning: Vegetables, Eggs and Cheeses.
I was in Nice on Aug. 13, 1945. La Lugga was not there but many wonderful cafes were.
The war was over for my outfit — the 394 Bomb Group — after dropping 13,416 tons of bombs in 271 combat missions. However, it will never be over for the loved ones of 180 killed in action, other heroes wounded and missing.
After bombing stopped, we were given R&R (restitution and relaxation) in Nice, Paris and Vichy, France.
Four of us were sitting in a Nice café which was overflowing with lovely mademoiselles and other servicemen. A mademoiselle asked for a cigarette.
Friend Jack flipped up a Camel before you could blink an eye. She gently said: “No! No! Feeleep Moreece (Phillip Morris) is the one.’’
We found a soldier with the Phillip Morris brand. I told the mademoiselle: “I have a Camel, Phillip Morris, Lucky Strike and Chesterfield. You can watch us light all four. Then we will blindfold you. I’ll bet you a kiss you can’t pick out your favorite.”
Mademoiselle: “Oui! Oui! Oui!”
We quickly lit four Phillip Morris and she took puff after puff and she finally said: “No! No! No! Feeleep Moreece.”
Forty people or so in the café were watching and burst out laughing as she kissed my cheek.
Then for us it was back to Venlo, Holland, and Germany.

Who vetted Braco???
How did Braco's asociations/friendships with those "dubious individuals" get over looked by the various nvestigating agencies? Remember...people in Washington handle material and are envolved in top secrete situations which require a "clearance".
If Braco was a republican, the media/liberals/some dems would be clamoring for an investigation!
Regardless of your party affiliation, can we simply let this go and hope for the best? Or should we e-mail, fax, call and write our elected officals for an explanation. Your choice.

The Naples Daily News used to list Blood Alcohol Content levels in the Police Beat section of the newspaper, but they stopped many years ago. Maybe people started to consider it a competition?
Have you ever really wondered how a roadside sobriety test measures up to a BAC? It would be interesting to get a variety of people and see how the tests compare... maybe on the Government channel to show people the foolishness of driving impaired and thinking you're more sober than you are?

Can you believe that Anne Marie Gressani was "slumming" and watched the Democratic convention? Heresy! I'm disappointed she neglected to invoke God to bless America at the end of her "piece". How uncharicteristic of a conservative Republican hypocrite, especially her. That's her "trademark" cover.
She still knows "quality" when she sees it though. Making sure to note that "Silent Sarah" (no media interviews until she passes the RNC Deceptive Rhetorical Course.) is a LIFE TIME member of the NRA. That's really "shooting off her mouth"! Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition.

Obamas called 'uppity'
By BEN EVANS
Barack and Michelle Obama. (AP Photo/Gerry Broome)
WASHINGTON (AP) — A Republican congressman from Georgia who referred to Barack and Michelle Obama as “uppity” says he wasn’t aware of the term’s racial overtones and did not intend to insult anyone.
Speaking to reporters Thursday, Rep. Lynn Westmoreland of Grantville, Ga., described the Obamas as members of an “elitist-class ... that thinks that they’re uppity,” according to The Hill, a Capitol Hill newspaper.
Asked if he intended to use the word, he said, “Yeah, uppity.”
In a statement Friday, Westmoreland — who was born in 1950 and raised in the segregated South — said he didn’t know that “uppity” was commonly used as a derogatory term for blacks seeking equal treatment. Instead, he referred to the dictionary definition of the word as describing someone who is haughty, snobbish or has inflated self-esteem.
“He stands by that characterization and thinks it accurately describes the Democratic nominee,” said Brian Robinson, Westmoreland’s spokesman. “He was unaware that the word had racial overtones, and he had absolutely no intention of using a word that can be considered offensive.”
The Obama campaign had no immediate response.
Westmoreland is one of the most conservative members of Congress. He has drawn criticism from civil rights advocates on a number of issues, including last year when he led opposition to renewing the 1965 Voting Rights Act. He also was one of two House members last year who opposed giving the Justice Department more money to crack unsolved civil rights killings.

I wonder what our traditional long term allies think about the election this week?
The introduction of the drunken snowmobile racer/fisherman (unemployed) that in international circles insists upon being called "THE FIRST DUDE" must leave them incredulous.

Until they think of the security ramifications when mini me drops, if he even makes it to the election.

It's unbelievable that party loyalty trumps concern for our nation's economy, security, international reputation, constitutional rights of citizens, religious tolerance, voting rights, American citizens torturing "suspected terrorists," preemptive war against nations with no army or air force, preemptive arrests of American citizens organizing to express opposition political opinions, "free speech" zones at national conventions and presidential appearances, true support for our troops and veterans, tax inequities, the death throes of public education, and the dumping of federal responsibilities onto local communities, the government refusal to honor national commitment to reconstruct New Orleans and strengthen the levees (to international standards practiced by England and Netherlands), government secrecy. But I've got to believe it. Our town is populated with yellow dog Republicans.
Our local supporters of the status quo are enjoying life as it is and seem unable to understand issues beyond face, gender identity, and political cheerleading. The attitude seems to be, along with the unhurried drivers, "We're already here in Paradise, just where we were trying to get to all our lives. The way things are is just fine." Now Mr. McCain claims the catch word Change for his own!
Yellow dog Republicans would vote for a nearly dead yellow dog over any Democrat. Our presidential choice is between a refined, well-educated professor at a top university and a coarse man at the bottom of his Annapolis class.
Apply the same litmus test to the spouses and to the VP candidates. What matter who speaks?
I think it matters. Our nation's number one leader must be someone with at least sufficient rhetorical skills to deflect international criticism about our President not being able to speak or write in complete sentences. At best, s/he should be someone who can conduct a real press conference--one without picking _who_ can ask _what questions_ in advance, someone who doesn't behave like an ill-bred bumpkin at international summits.
Everyone should read _The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America_ before the first week in November. But few read anything anymore. We let Rupert Murdoch determine our world view.
On the bread and butter issues, the hard core matters like national security and government transparency, we supporters of Mr. Obama expect you supporters of Mr. McCain to tell us the truth. As a former teacher now a doctoral student up north writes: most of us are too busy to get to the bottom of important disputed facts – too busy wondering how we are going to pay our mortgages to contemplate the peculiar ironies of convention speakers like Rudy Giuliani shading the truth about national security or using fatuous oratory to accuse an articulate opponent of being full of hot air (Dr. Richard Herder).

The vocal Neapolitan Republicans who have written these letters to the Editor seem to be anti-egghead and don't want to think or argue rationally about anything important. Maybe I should use the phrase "Green Dog," so that local flag-wavers don't misunderstand and associate "yellow" with accusing their hero of cowardice.

In today's letters, Nick Hale "exudes" the praise of Sarah Palin and her "record" of "fighting" corruption in Alaska with her "executive abilities". What a LARK! She just as well might have been "cleaning out" her own closet at home as that CORRUPTION was the GOP establishment in a state of less than a million voters.
Now Nicky Hale thinks that Sarah can go to Washington D.C. and "clean out" 8 years of more accumulated GOP failures. True, she can probably recognize her "own" Republican rubbish gained by the experience of "first hand" relationships with her GOP "in crowd". "It takes one to know one".
The irony is that the GOP, in both instances, is proclaiming some sort of "redemption" within their own party as if GOP policies are any different because of geography, and the voter should not be aware of the BASIC underlining trend evidenced in their corruption and failures of the past.
BUSH/CHENEY = McCAIN/PALIN, there is no DIFFERENCE!

there is absolutely no reason any qualified woman could not be on any Presidential ticket and in fact too few have reached that level
the problem for the Republicans is that Sarah Palin has come out of the clear blue sky...was not on any pundit's radar...was not known outside of Alaska and seem to have been chosen with very little background checking
unfortunately she is carrying much more "baggage" than anybody bargained for and if she was chosen to "pick up the Hillary vote" it appears she may have alienated a good portion of these woman with her very strong anti abortion stand and the fact her strong evangelical moral stand did not prevent the unwanted pregnacy of her 17 year old daughter
then there is her autocratic ..and some say ruthless....... rule of her underlings...anyone who does not agree with her finds themselves out of a job.....troopergate...accusations of abuse of power.....just an awful lot for a vice presidential candidate to shoulder nduring a combative campaign
that being said we still do not know her..there is no info on her knowledge of anything outside of Alaska..let alone anything about world affairs...what about Iran...what about Russia....etc etc etc
she performed well when handled with kid gloves and shortly we will see her perform with the press she seemed to go out of her way to alienate...which was a mistake...her first will be carefully orchestrated with sympathetic journalists with "softball" questions but we will best get to know her when she is caught off guard and impromtu press jams
the optics of the presidential slate looks good for the US and is an indication of how anyone can aspire to the highest offices
the "dirty politics" of this campaign however does not look good

Listing qualifications, achievements, accomplishments doesn't have a provision for name calling Mike. Maybe that is the reason there are no replies.

That's not playing fair Mike.
Don't forget, you are requesting people that want to be dependent on government to actually do something serious, besides name calling and LMAO and joking.
That would be like asking a liberal to leave Cedar Rapids because of flooding, without government help or money.

"How dare you critize the community organizer", yelled the women. "Just because he didn't supervise people, have a budget of billions of dollars, make daily decisions regarding the welfare (all aspects)of a state, directed the national guard in times of emergy, put out political fires daily, see people, listen to complaints/act on them, and on and on".
"How dare you indeed!" was my response!
Let's be honest/fair. There is no comparison. But both are jobs admirable in their own right.
But common sense and reality says:
1st step mayor of a city.
2nd step governor of a state.
3 rd vp or president of the greatest country in the world.
A logical progression, I'm sure you would agree! Each step prepares you for the next! Attaining the 3rd step is based on your judgement and experience derived from the previous two.
If you really want to see/better understand common sence and reality, compare a governor, senator and a community organizer' responsibilities! Make three columns and start writting. The results will speak for themselves.
One of the toughest things for individuals to do is get past their "ego and emotions". Common sence and reality are tough to accept.
In any event, have a great day and a better tomorrow!

I notice the loony lefties are not rolling on the floor laughing their a**es of today. Could that be because the letters and commentaries in support of the McCain/Palin ticket are pouring in? Could it be because what is written by readers of the NDN is likely representative of what is being said in local papers across the country?
Obama promised us change. Well, we're going to get it, just not in the way he intended.

I'm really getting tired of all that is being said about Palin's unmarried daughter being pregnant. Don't people have any compassion for the poor girl? There seems to be no end to the cruelty that politics engenders in people. I had two neices that were pregnant before marriage. My sister taught them against it, but those things happen. Why don't we leave those family matters out of the public arena?
I'm really sick of politics. Any thing that people can dig up to discredit a candidate's chances of winning will be done.
I knew who I wanted to vote for months ago. I doubt that there is much that can be said that will change my mind. I will vote for the person who I think is most in line with the way I think about the economy and social issues.
If a person has a brain to think with and is not intolerant and not greedy, should be able to think things out for themselves.
Some of you more vocal bloggers make me sick. There is too much disharmoney in this world. There is too much hate and self grandiosity.

Re #57 Perseauk: I take it that if you had a choice of living in "marxist" Chicago or "muslim" Baghdad, it would have to be the latter, because of the "low death rate and level of violence". We "know" that the Bush "lackey" Petraus has "everything" under control. It's really time for more of you conservative Republicans to spread your "gospel" out of the green zone in Baghdad and show the true "fruits of the Bush doctrine" of "oil = peace and "prosperity". Maybe a few more "shots" of Bush visiting a school to read fairytales to little Arabs will get the message across like after 9/11.

LET'S PLAY FAIR, PEOPLE:
Polls: I get a real kick sitting in AOL chat rooms listening to the paid operatives. At times, they even talk to each other about what they're doing. Whose opinion do the polls reflect? Pollsters are having real problems gauging public opinion since so few now use land lines vs cells. (Do you know ANYONE who still uses AOL??? Most have DSL or cable...)
Re international affairs/security issues: I think for once that the Daily Show has nailed the race: "RESTORING HONOR AND DIGNITY TO THE WHITE HOUSE." Does Palin help on that score?
"community organizer" - Obama was hired right out of college by 8 Catholic parishes where the budget went from nearly nothing to over $400,000. He was in Crain's Chicago Business as one of the young people to watch.
Rudy Giuliani's comments about Obama never running anything is nearly word for word what he said about McCain last year.
Palin is getting quite a lot of positive buzz, but most of what she says doesn't check out. The more I see, the more I wish he'd just run with his wife, Cindy, who I am really coming to admire...or Christine Todd Whitman, who actually has accomplishments.

Knital, Rejoice, Oldtimer and like are "big" on the "concept" that Republicans protect America better than Democrats. The GOP has that "theme" as one of their foremost planks in this election campaign.
You have to give them "credit" for putting their actions where their mouths are. They have arranged for missiles to be placed in Poland. (for our defense?) They have defied Russia by unconditionally supporting Georgia as a "bastion of Democracy" and committing us to their defense. Cheney goes to the Ukraine and promises more of the same version of GOP establishment democracy with NATO membership sponsorship from the U.S. All of these "maneuvers" are not to be construed as "intimidation" or "nation building" or anything but a political philosophical exercise with the goal of effecting "world peace and prosperity". Perhaps, the final touch should be to construct a moat around the Kremlin and establish an official seige? They won't wake up. I'm sure that all conservative Republicans can subscribe to that Bush/McCain/Cheney/Palin/Rove/Limbaugh/Hannity line of "logic".

Re #70 Perseauk First off, thank you for walking into my bailiwick. I have forgotten more about Chicago than you know of it. That includes the suburbs and collar counties. Love to compare notes and rip you apart piecemeal!
Now as for dealing with Islam terror! If you knew anything at all you would compare Japanese WWII` Banzai terror as an example of how fanaticism is dealt with intelligently. The Japs make Bin Ladin look like an amateur by comparison and we effectively silenced and contained their activities. Do some reading. (in a library, not on u-tube)
Safe for the last seven years is the biggest joke and lame brain GOP argument. One could say the attack on the trade center in 1993 and on 9/11/01 spanned nearly 8 years. What's that prove? You can only count when you think it favors your ignorance.
If the Republicans hadn't been so obssessed in dispensing the Clinton surplus to their menagerie of greedy political sponsors, they might have utilized government intelligence more resourcefully and contained or even prevented 9/11.

These are some of the reasons I won't vote for John McCain:
1. I believe in universal health care.
2. I believe we should never have invaded Iraq, and we should get out as soon as possible.
3. I believe we should spend more money helping people who need help and not take money away from programs that help people.
4. I believe in a better transportation system.
5. I believe we should spend more money to fix our infrastructure.
6. I'm against the National Rifle Association, for abortion rights, against school vouchers.
McCain is a social conservative. I'm a social liberal.
I believe that Obama is more in tune with my values. Obama is not perfect, but when we vote we vote for the person who we think will do the most good and do what we want done. McCain and Palin are social conservatives. I don't like their agenda.
I'm not voting for a person's personality or how good they can talk. I vote for what a candidate's party stands for. I believe in what the Democratic Party stands for more than the Republican Party.

Rejoice, I know full well what you're saying about Iran getting nukes. The point is there is no proof that's what they're doing, and second, they are not stupid enough to use them if they did.
I believe with our being so bullying, bellicose and resistant to talking to anybody, the Iranians are feeling their back is against the wall. They know Israel has nukes, and they know Israel has taken out sites in Syria and Iraq without anyone saying a word.
Our imperialism only speads fear in these other nations, not knowing when they'll be our next victim because of some trumped up charge.
We've now alienated Russia along with much of the Middle East. Afghanistan is getting very upset with us, and Pakistan who does have nukes is also.
I believe as Ron Paul believes, that even if Iran got nukes, they could only use them in defense. We have a stand off now called MADD, and no nation wants to suffer the consequences of Nuclear War.
Barack Obama has as one of his goals the reduction in nuclear weapons. That is what we need. If all countries join in, then we'll see the threat diminish. Also, this administration has irritated North Korea so much, they too have re instituted their Nukes.
Also, thanks Elephant Tamer, we're on the same track. Under Clinton we were not attacked for 8 years until Bush didn't heed as he should have the warnings from the Cinton's Adminstration to be watchful. And notice under Clinton, we had no gigantic Home Land Security or all this spying we're now subjected to.
It almost seems this was a gift to Bush so they could do their imperialistic games and expand government, curb our rights and get the closest thing we've seen to a dictatorship.

# 90 - GoneFishin - I don't necessarily want Obama, but I like his agenda better than McCain's. In this election, we don't necessarily vote for who or what we want, but the persons shoved on us by the powers that be. Before the primaries, I was for Dennis Kucinich, but of course, he couldn't win, because he is too progressive. A really true progressive can't win in this country. Maybe someday.
Obama is better than McCain in my estimation. At least we have a chance for progress under Obama. McCain is an old conservative, and we won't see much progress under his rule.
I have my opionions, and you have yours. Just because I have different opinions doesn't mean that people should vote for McCain because I will vote for Obama. GoneFishin, you are insulting. Well, it's easy to see that if a Right Winger, McCain (Keating associate), doesn't agree with one, one is automatically a Marxist. That's the easy way out for them, but it shows again how little they know.
Probably none of us who are on this blob who back Obama are Marxists. I know I'm not, nor all those other Republicans who aren't backing McCain. Ron Paul is probably the farthest thing you can get from a Marxist. So, try to think a little more deeply what we're dealing with here, and realize that most of this has nothing to do with Marxism.
I know I want freedom, and that means I don't want the government messing in my private life with my personal decisions about my health needs or anything. I don't want any Pentacostal religion especially running my life or my daughter's lives or my grand childrens' lives.
I was given a gift by women who went before me, and I don't want any bull dog with lip stick on to mess with it in any way.
Now, lets looks at the Bull Dog. I think from what I've heard the name fits her well, and McCain might just be one of her victims. In a way I feel a little sorry for the old guy. Sarah's used to having her own way and knocking people out who get in her way. Not a nice trait for anyone, well maybe for some back woodsman, but we do live in a civilized society and I do want our leaders to be civilized.
Here are a few tidbits I heard about Palin: She didn't sell that jet on e-bay for a profit like she boasted. It was sold by someone else in her administration at a loss. Well, there goes Sarah again, taking credit for things she didn't do.
And that bridge to nowhere that she was first for and then she was against; she got the money anyway but used it for other things. That was about 300 hundred and some million dollars. Some earmark.
Also, Sarah's personality as we're getting a taste of is stubborn and blunt. That'll go over like a ton of bricks in her V.P. job. That doesn't work well here in civilized land, but I heard the Alaskans like that because they consider themselves blunt and stubborn.
Also, she lied up a storm about Obama raising your taxes. She said that to a crowd of people in the bracket that Obama targets for tax reductions. Either she didn't know that or she's an outright liar, and I would think we're pretty tired of that lying business we've been putting up with for nearly 8 years.

Another thing, Sarah doesn't have any say over National Guardsmen who are called to duty in the Arms Service. So let's clear that up too.
So, stay tuned. There'll be more. And if she ever lets a reporter close to her, we might find out how little she knows.
So, her credentials for what she does know and handle are pretty slim. She's been pushing people around and firing them even if they don't deserve it.
If she's representative of womanhood, then we are truly in trouble. She has the manners of a grizzly bear, and is just as dangerous.
Inquisitive, you'd better look at your anger management. I can see why you were pulled. Of all the bloggers, you exude the worst anger. Rejoice, you asked me what I felt would happen if Iran got nukes: Well, I want to ask you what do you think will happen if we invade Iran now?
Are we going to bomb them? Are we going to invade them on the ground? They've said they will fight back with all they have, and they have a lot more than Iraq had, and are a lot bigger, of course, Iraq had nothing, and it's taken the stuffing right out of us, and we're still there.
Or, maybe you think we should nuke them. And then what do you think will happen if we nuke a Middle Eastern Country and break the treaty? Do you think the other countries are going to just stand by and watch that? Or maybe, they're looking at the handwriting on the wall. The U.S. has become an imperialist gone completely bizerk and has to be stopped.
What can we gain out of any of that? Only our own disaster.
Also, I'm sure you've heard of Nuclear radiation. Well, Iran isn't the only country to be affected by radiation. What about our soldiers over there? What about the wind blowing westward right over Israel. What about the Saudi's and the few friends we have left there? And lastly what about our oil supply we count on so heavily?
Rejoice, invading Iraq is only disaster all the way around. That's why we need cooler minds. That's why Obama has the right approach. I believe he can talk to them; however, if he takes the bully approach we've been using, then all bets are off.
Obama has the intelligence, the insight, and the judgment. Those are things people can be years in Washington and don't get.
Also, Russia came to the rescue of the South Ossetians beseiged by the Georgians. It seems we came to the rescue of the Kosovars when we said they were beseiged by the Serbs. In both cases these provinces were part of either Georgia or Serbia. There is one difference though, the South Ossetians have never wanted to be a part of Georgia. They were pulled in when Georgia broke from the Soviet Union. But South Ossetians feel more of an affiliation with Russia than Georgia. The Kosovars were happily part of Serbia for hundered of years until they were inundated with Albanian immigrants. It was the Albanians who rebelled and fought Serbia for their independence.
Much of our problem lies in our inconsistency. Things are good when they fit what we want and bad when they don't. Russia knows that. We just underestimate too much the intelligence of other countries.

And, I find it really humorous that McCain couldn't even think up his own campaign slogan. He had to steal Obama's slogan of "Change." You'd think McCain would be embarrassed that he couldn't even come up with one of his own. But wait, I think he did. I think it was "experience," but when experience didn't play well, they stold Obama's one of Change, because they could see Obama knew where it was at and they wanted to be copy cats.

Re #92 Perseauk -Wonderman you say. Absolutely!! You cite terror acts outside the USA between 1993 and 2001 as "proof" of your ignorant contention of continuing terror in the U.S. Nonsense! What in the world do you think was going on in Indonesia, Spain and England between 2001 and now? Has that just been more "stupid" GOP bluster? You can't see the trees for the forest.
As for Clinton not "knocking off" Bin Ladin presumptiously, is to deny the very principles this country stands for and you don't know, realize or respect. We don't kill or assasinate people! For Clinton to have assasinated Bin Ladin would have been a crime against our laws and beliefs. It seems Bush and his disciples, like you, have comprimised American principles for greedy self interests intent on securing power and control of government.
You say "my suburbs in Chicagoland didn't vote for Marxists like you". Was that DuPage County by chance? That "bastion" of Henry Hyde, the Christian hypocrite wife stealer's domain? Side note: I had the personal pleasure of insulting that ass to his face and he just cringed in guilt. He was a wife stealing gigolo degenerate!
Marxist, Communist are terms that guys like you like to use as labels. To you, they represent a "cop out" for a denial of real people interests. You imply the principles that promote "Big Money", "Big Business", Fascism and a return to an animal medieval society criteria. Your quest for the subjugation of the minority and underpriviledged is the very basis of your existence.

RE $104 Bricklin Are you saying that McCain was exonerated because he was just "stupid", relative to the Keating fiasco? It seems he hasn't learned much in the interim!

Today on Fox News, Warren Buffet endorsed Obama for President.

Show time in Colorado Springs this afternoon had "Daddy Warbucks" looking worriedly over "Little Orphan Annie" extolling his exploits. It seemed like McCain was concerned that Palin might not spew out the RNC scripted rhetoric as intended. She did just "fine". She will make the grade as "loud mouth puppet" to its finest degree.
Viagara Johhny said he couldn't wait to introduce Sarah to Washington. I guess he really is counting on "cleaning up" on their "good fortune" ala Abramoff style. Republicans know how it is better to receive than give.

Re #144 Inquisitive - You are "short" as a lot of people on this blog contend. The jerk was saying that attacks occurred in the U.S. between 1993 & 2001 by contending that an embassy in foreign lands is U.S. territory (naive) and the U.S. Cole is an extension of the boardwalk off Atlantic City. (really naive)
Spelling: Hmmm! Compromise vs "arguEment"? Really! The meaning is what counts.
Proof of assassinations you ask. Maybe not, but at least it has always been our professed contention. Not everybody obeys the law, especially Bush Republicans.
Your label comparisons are childish and self defeating. You "boys" started it and now have to bear the consequences by association and guilt.

:Parenting" It's a wonderful quality in action.
The Republican campaign is "parenting" Silent Sarah" as she will travel with Viagara Johnny for "awhile" until she gets her "legs" settled. It wouldn't be fair to let her loose on her own to be exposed to the "biased" press and the onslaught of "unsympathetic" people who don't recognize Sarah's "intrinsic" qualities. She does very well reading prepared notes and she has a voice that would "wake up the dead". (I think that is the GOP base?) It's a plan!!!

I didn't say.
But the stupidity belongs to voters who allow the Senate Ethics Committee to reprimand rather than kick the bums out and take their pensions.
When they are elected, voters place trust in their representative. If that trust is violated, they can no longer be trusted with the duties they were elected for.

Jag, It's time for you to start heading for your rock, you're beat-up, bleeding now and getting dumber by the minute. Take a long rest and come back again when the sky is blue again. Sometime around Jan. 20th, 2009. We will still all be here with our original names, you can change yours, but some how I believe we will still know it's you.

so NDN BANNED YOU after complaints
the complainers did not bann you
your obnoxious posts got you banned
now that's all because this is so easy it now becomes boring!!!!

Canuck did not run off........just watching the rantings of a cornered and desparate paranoid man who BTW only posted part of the e-mail in #178 but showed it in closed captions as the complete e mail
you did manage to leave out ....."based on your personal attacks against others"
now joined by the resident racist Rejoice
don't they make a fine pair?????
#88 Posted by Canuck on September 6, 2008 at 6:53 p.m. (Suggest removal)
don't twist the words InquisitiveJS.....I said you got banned because of your posts ...which BTW were a result of other's complaints...your posts were examined by NDN and deemed to be offensive...as you "repeatedly and consistently" posted such remarks
I guess the reason people you want banned are still here is that NDN did not find them in the same league as yours
now get over it...clean up your act...and play nice

Obama is a leader like those who are born once every 50 years in this country. From a list of great leaders
