During the forum, sponsored by The League of Women Voters of Collier County, moderator Chris Straton asked the candidates what they would tell Thompson their first priority for him would be. Ohio man held without bond in 1995 morphine death

A 51-year-old Ohio man serving 15 years of probation on a 1995 manslaughter charge for giving a friend a shot-glass of morphine is being held without bond in Collier County jail on charges he violated probation by getting arrested on suspicion of torching his wife’s car. Full story »

Christina Murphy has zoomed around Naples, logging more than 3,700 miles and never spending a penny on gas. She’s done it on a two-wheeled Segway, which she describes as “the ultimate green machine.” Murphy is a lead guide for Segway tours in downtown Naples. She works for Naples Transportation, Tours and Event Planning, which also sells the personal transporters, or PTs. Full story »

State starting over in potential leasing of Alligator Alley

This is more than a momentary delay. When state transportation officials canceled a meeting last week to review documents submitted by firms interested in leasing Alligator Alley, it seemed that perhaps the process would be postponed by a week or two. Florida Department of Transportation staffers now say the state will start the process over for amassing interest in Alligator Alley, issuing a new request for qualifications, the first step in the process to lease the 78-mile toll road to a private interest.
