Local racing: Germain Racing team penalized for infractions at event

It was two steps forward and two steps back for the locally owned Germain Racing team and driver Todd Bodine during the past week. After his third-place finish in Saturday’s Toyota Tundra 200 at Nashville Superspeedway, polesitter Bodine jumped from sixth to fourth in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series points standings. August typically means light east winds, calm mornings and plenty of snook and tarpon. Unfortunately, this past week, whatever rookie weather god was controlling the conditions in this area must have been oblivious to this August tradition. Local tennis: World Tennis Club team wins championship in Daytona Beach

Go west, tennis men. Go west. Just such a journey is what the members of the World Tennis Club Men’s 4.5 team, captained by Gerd Franke, are looking forward to. The team captured the sectional championship this past weekend at Daytona Beach and, as a result, the locals will represent Florida at the national championship event in Tucson, Ariz. Fishing Report: No boat needed for snook, if you're willing to wade

One of the most common e-mails I receive each week asks where to fish in this area for those who do not have a boat. Naples Pier is the most obvious answer, but it can get crowded during the season. All of the beaches hold snook in the summer and there is some wade fishing in Estero Bay, but the best place is in the passes, especially those that are little more difficult to get to.
