Dinner Date: Thanks, I’ll take the meat
Thursday, May 8, 2008
If you are going to The Grill Club, the Brazilian churrascaria in Bayfront, you need a plan of attack. For those unfamiliar with the churrascaria concept, it’s pretty much a meat free-for-all. There is no real menu. You pay a flat fee (in this case $39.95) and for that you have free rein of the salad and appetizer bar and as much meat as you can eat. For your main course, roaming waiters come by with various roasted meats still on the spits. Everyone at your table gets little cards that either say “Yes, I want some more” or “No, thank you.” You flip your card to the side of your choosing and the waiters, or gauchos, pass around to see if you are interested in more. And there’s always more. Full story »

Mr. TV: Robin Williams on “Law & Order: SVU”
Monday, April 28, 2008
Almost 30 years ago, I had the privilege to witness the genius of Robin Williams at a taping of “Mork & Mindy” on a Paramount Studios soundstage. Williams’ extemporaneous comic riffs in between takes stretched the taping well into the evening, yet I was neither hungry nor tired. Only my cheeks hurt from all the laughing. Full story »

Jon and Jenna: Your new favorite sushi place
Thursday, April 10, 2008
We watched with great delight as Yukihana Sushi and Hibachi began renovating space in the Kings Lake Plaza last year. Finally, a sushi joint close to our East Naples home. Hopefully it would mean no more long drives to Sushi-Thai in North Naples and no more too spectacular tabs at Blu Sushi downtown. Full story »
Mr. TV: Can’t get enough of The Masters on TV? Try the web too
Thursday, April 10, 2008
Maybe it was the four million downloads with an average viewing time of about three hours per visit. That’s the results from last year’s “Masters Live” online coverage from the 11th, 12th and 13th holes of the Augusta National Golf Club otherwise known as “Amen Corner.” Full story »
The web that binds: Cast netting is one of the oldest fishing techniques still in use
Thursday, April 10, 2008
It’s an angling art that’s been around for millennia. They’ve been found in Egyptian tombs dating back several thousand years. There’s mention of metaphoric fishing nets in Christian texts, particularly Ezekial Chapter 32, where God talked about disposing of the Egyptians as though they were sea beasts to be caught and removed. ‘A little bit of everything’
Thursday, April 10, 2008
The dining room at Noodles Italian Restaurant is lively and buzzes with the lunch crowd chatter. Like every Thursday, in a few hours the chic, dimly lit room will be throbbing with the latest top 40 hits, barely recognizable under the strobe lights. Full story »
Mr. TV: A lesson in living your life to the fullest
Thursday, April 3, 2008
Life lessons. Our job as parents is to pass them on to our kids, hoping the “light bulb” goes off sometime. Like this one: “Brick walls are there for a reason; they let us prove how badly we want things.” (Read that one again, I’ll wait.) Or how about, “experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted.” Or “wait long enough and people will surprise and impress you.” Full story »
