In memory of former Estero High cross country and track runner Adam Cortes, a double royal palm tree that was grown by Cortes has been installed at the entrance of the school’s football and track stadium. Attending a ceremony on Monday afternoon were, from left, Adam’s former teammates and close friends Dan Goldsmith and Nick Pemberton, Adam’s father Bob, Estero running coach and athletic director Jeff Sommer, Adam’s mother Debbie, and Bryan Sangster, an employee at the Cortes’ landscaping nursery. Adam died Oct. 21, 2007 at age 23.
