Big Cypress National Preserve Superintendent Karen Gustin has been named superintendent of Olympic National Park in Washington, the National Park Service announced today.
Gustin is expected to start her new job in early to mid-July after almost four years at the helm at Big Cypress, where she has wrestled with off-road vehicle access and has planned construction of a new Welcome Center.
The Park Service has not named an interim superintendent for Big Cypress, preserve spokesman Bob DeGross said today. Gustin leaves as the preserve's off-road vehicle advisory committee begins meeting.
Since 1994, Gustin has worked in leadership roles in national park units from Guam to Alaska, including at Painted Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan for three years before taking the job at Big Cypress in 2004.
Big Cypress National Preserve encompasses 720,000 acres in eastern Collier County roughtly between Interstate 75 and U.S. 41 East, including habitat for the endangered Florida panther.

Seems like the park service doesnt let any of its staff at any level remain in one area for long .
Now we have to learn the game all over again .
Who knows whats in store , maybe we are at the end of the good cop era and possibly re-entering a Donahue type administration again . Kind of like politics , Dems for a spell then Repubs.
Good Luck Ms Gustin and good luck to us Preserve visitors. Donahue , stay where you're at .
