Daily News wins 11 Florida journalism awards

The Naples Daily News won 11 awards Friday at the annual Florida Society of Newspaper Editors/Florida Press Association annual convention in Lake Buena Vista.

The Daily News competed in Division B, which included Florida newspapers with circulation between 60,000 and 125,000 daily.

Here's the list of NDN winners for the FSNE contest:

• First Place Sports: Scott Hotard for "Player's Vision"

• First Place Columns: Brent Batten for collection of columns

Judges said: "Authoritative marshaling of evidence with a pay-attention writing style."

• First Place Feature Photography: Greg Kahn for "March on Main"

Judges said: "Good pacing, good use of archival footage and strong interviews."

• Second Place Feature Photography: Lexey Swall for "Little Miss Disappointment"

Me Too. Congrats to the people at NDN. Life may be short but a mangled sentence once written lives forever. This is especially true for headlines.

NDN Staff-
Congratulations! Keep up the good work!

i see no awards for journalism, NDN doesn't report what really goes on here in Naples. The illegal alien problem seldom gets reported. crime is put in there sparingly so it doesn't scare the tourist dollar.
all in all NDN gets a D- imo.
but congrat to the award winners.

Congrats. These awards say it all about the NDN. Big on sports and graphic content but low on substantive, quality journalism. In other words, NDN appeals to jocks and illiterates.

That's exactly correct - do you see any awards in there for anything with the words "reporting" or "investigative" or even "writing" in the titles? Nope, it's all sizzle, no steak.
