A 25-year-old woman was arrested Thursday morning after Collier County sheriff’s deputies said she left a 2-year-old home alone around 1 a.m. and didn’t return until almost 11 a.m.

Melissa Jeannine LaRonde, whose address in North Naples was not released, was charged with neglect of a child without great bodily harm.

Around 1:40 a.m. a woman who was visiting the area from Fort Lauderdale returned to LaRonde’s home after visiting her mother in the hospital, and found a note from LaRonde, the Sheriff’s Office reported. On the note, LaRonde said it was 1:05 a.m. and that she was next door and that she left the baby monitor on.

She wrote that she would return shortly.

Around 10 a.m. Thursday the 2-year-old was walking around the home and woke the woman up, reports said. LaRonde was still not home, and no baby monitor could be found.

LaRonde returned around 10:50 a.m. when deputies were present. She said she was next door the whole night, and that she left the 2-year-old because alone because she knew the woman would be returning, reports said.

Deputies reported that LaRonde’s home was in disarray, with tampons on the floor in the child’s room, dirty dishes in the sink and trash all over the counters.

That's a smart one right there. Yuck, hope they were at least unused tampons.

Okay, it's this or the guy who left the baby in the truck, the man who molested a girl, a guy arrested for sexual battery, or the guy arrested for indecent exposure!!!!!!!!
What the heck is goin on????!!!!

Sounds like a place to crash in exchange for some babysitting gone awry. This kind of nonsense is why women kill their babies. Go to 7-11, leave your kid in the car while you buy some milk and you are a felon.

Tampons on the floor??? She doesn't have a garbage can? What a pig!! Take that kid away and give it to someone who would really love it and care for it. She won't get away with throwing her crap on the floor in prison.

minxy..the last time I checked....

kids are HUMAN...

Soooooo.... that would mean they would NOT be described as IT.

Let's try...He...SHE....tot...toddler...CHILD...HUMAN....person..living...breathing....babe...little one...tike...kid...

Not.....it.

Like...it really ticks me off when a person is described as an "it."

If "it" was her LAMP she left behind, then you might be close.

But "it" is hard to determine when "it," i.e. your I.Q. is below 75.

Her myspace account says it all.

Purses are more important than her child.

What was going on next door that she had to leave a child home alone?

#12 Posted by eaglebeak on June 14, 2008 at 9:31 a.m. (Suggest removal)

eaglebeak....a party was going on next door, thats what was so important.

I dont understand why these young girls allow themselves to get knocked up, then proceed to keep the child they apparently dont want. Secondly, why is it that every woman I read about in the paper that leaves their child(ren) home alone live like slobs? WTF? Clean up after yourself.

Beetlejuice....myspace??? Do you seriously have one? LOL

LOL

I look up all "my bestest friends" on it.

My personal favorite myspace search turned up a page of a bride who beat up new hubby on their WEDDING night in Pennsylvania.

They both spent the night in jail.

If the guy checked out her account, he may have learned a thing or two, but I think he was in a few photos, too.

U gonna sign up for it sandnsurf?

There's some winners there, I promise.

dang beetlejuice still waiting for the link to her myspace.

Hey wait a minute, why was she only charged with neglect of a child without great bodily harm and the lady from Immokalee got charged with a felony for leaving her kids outside of a gas station while she purchased beer? Is neglect of a child without geat bodily harm a felony or a misdemeanor? If it's a misdemeanor then there's a double standard here.

#17 Posted by SDOS on June 14, 2008 at 8:31 p.m. (Suggest removal)

SDOS - let me explain something to you. The problem here is racial. Simple as that.
The woman from Immokalee is hispanic and therefore not only does she get a harsher accusation from the police but she gets ridiculed and insulted by the moronic idiots that blog here.
This woman did the same thing, left her child unattended and in harms way, but because she is white all anyone here comments on is her lack of cleanliness.
Naples residents: you are hipocrites!!!

WOW...I think that is one of the racist comments I've read yet.
