Grandmother arrested after allegedly leaving grandchildren in car while gambling

— Authorities say a North Miami woman left her two grandchildren alone in a car while she was gambling in Hallandale Beach, which is north of Miami.

Hallandale Beach police say 53-year-old Jeanne Shahan left the children unattended inside a car parked outside Mardi Gras Gaming on Tuesday. A witness saw the 2-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy in the car and told the casino's security.

Shahan was arrested and charged with two counts of child neglect without great harm. She was later released on $2,000 bail.

What's the big deal here?

"A witness saw the 2-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy."

A boy of 14 is old enough to handle this responsoibility.

There are 14 year old boys who fight in armies around the world, even ours.

Would the casino have allowed these kids inside with the grandmom???

We should cut this poor lady some slack!

I agree! Cut the grandmother some slack. Let's build even more casinos so more folks can lock their grandchildren in cars while they gamble. Better yet, let's train and arm all our responsible fourteen-year-olds and rent them out to foreign armies, thereby generating more cash to donate to casino owners and investors. Brilliant, frankz!

The cop must have needed to make his quota bad to stoop as low as this for a sollar. Lets send our cops to smart school. besides what does this article have to do with collier county? no more poor storys to tiut the virtues of nabor and the collier cos ndn?

It's really not very kind to leave kids in a car when going elsewhere indefinitely for a fun time. I don't know if the $2,000 bond and jail was necessary, but gramma needs to skip the slots when kids are in tow.

WHO CARES ITS ONLY CHILDREN ! ITS NOT LIKE SHE LEFT CATS IN THE CAR THEN IT WOULD REALLY BE CRIMINAL !

I want you all to read this comments. Specially those of you who like to use the phrase "third world countries". What can we expect from the kids if they follow grandma's example??

CutthroatLiberal, my 20 # cat "polar" can beat up your cat.
He once brought home a medium sized dog, pulled all his fur off then ate everything but his head.

I could understand this if she left them in the car for eight hours in the sun, but it doesnt say how long they'd been there. For all we know, she could have planned on being in there 15 minutes and had the kids watching a DVD in the car. 14 years old is hardly a young child. At 14 I was never supervised and got paid well to babysit!!!

Hey, would you leave kids in the car unprotected from strangers and then go and gamble????
We read about child molesters all the time.

Get real, this "Grandmother" should be punished.

White trash with a gambling problem comes to mind.

Cutthroat you still trying to chuck that cat? I thought he was gone when he stole your truck during Fay. Okay I could see where this is wrong, she should have left them at home where it's legal to have a 14 year old watch the younger one. Did she at least win some money?

Those over fifty love the gambling gig.

They live for bingo.

They live for lotto.

Gambling grandparents are a growing problem in Florida, and the casinos don't care either.

Gamble away, you'll see your grandkids another day.

We're off to Immokalee to gamble away OVER $300,000 a year, if I recall correctly from a previous news story about retirees from Naples.

That's enough for a HOUSE.

Shame on her!

NaplesCracker, time will tell about the status of Jeanne Shahan...
My money is on white trash. We'll see.

And CTI, my A%& is, and always will be, a virgin.

Opinionated:

Be nice to the white trash gamblers. Your government is depending on them to fund the schools.

And those of you blaming the cops should understand that their hands are tied. If it's on the books, it's supposed to be enforced. There's no option for common sense once the bill becomes law.

And very little evidence of common sense in that sausage factory where the bills are written.

But we're all safer, right?

elnuestros...2 funny on the school part....which I shouldn't forget the Fl lottery paying for some college and educationsal costs.

But I have to ask....

What did the casinos do for Florida last year?

What about the BONITA SPRINGS dog track?

Do I here the Bonita Springs dog track sending a student to veternary school on a scholarship?

No, I don't think so.

What about those GAMBLING GRANDMA's?

Another pull of the crazy machines!

Leave the grandkids in the car all day...they can play in the parking lot!

This is ridiculous..... hopefully she won some money while she was in there to bail herself out for such a lousy arrest. Our tax dollars are really at work!

CutthroatLiberal.... your posts are always so amusing. Thank you
