Letter of the Day: A new wrinkle
Editor, Daily News:
You know you’re getting old when Brett Favre is no longer quarterback of the Green Bay Packers.

My Fay stories
Editor, Daily News:
Thank God we were well-spared in the visit from Tropical Storm Fay.
I am sure we all made preparations such as saving water in our sinks and tubs.
We did have a good deal of much-needed rain, but we must still not waste water. So I hope many folks have made good use of the water they saved and used it for their inside and outdoor plants.
Mother always said, “Waste not, want not.”
Meanwhile, isn’t it great to have wonderful friends in a time of need? Sunday morning after Mass, I starting putting up my shutters. A friend came by, saw what I was doing, went home and sent her husband back to help me finish the job.
Another friend’s husband called to say he had just finished helping someone with his home and if I needed help he would be over in the morning.
Wonderful.
— Elaine Paulson, Naples
Give us a hand
Editor, Daily News:
Now that Tropical Storm Fay has passed us without too much damage, many people are inquiring how they might be able to help the next time we are threatened by a potential disaster.
The American Red Cross is offering classes from September through November that will prepare you to be a Red Cross volunteer.
Now is a perfect time to sign up, and these classes are free of charge. There are a number of classes, such as shelter operations, feeding crowds, disaster services for licensed health professionals, and client casework (for meeting the needs of families following a disaster).
There is even a class that prepares volunteers to drive a Red Cross emergency response vehicle. That class is called “Ready, Set, Roll.”
In the day or two before any storm, there are many tasks to be accomplished: staffing shelters, answering the phone at headquarters, delivering supplies to each shelter, data entry of shelter information, preparation of news releases, fundraising and much more.
For Tropical Storm Fay, 36 volunteers and seven chapter staff members participated. At the peak of the storm, the Red Cross sheltered 248 Collier County residents.
We could use your help!
Talk to us about your interests and enroll in a class now so you can help others the next time there is a need. Give us a call at the American Red Cross at 596-6868.
— Deborah Horvath, Naples; CEO, American Red Cross, Collier County Chapter
Hey, we got the call
Editor, Daily News:
Wow! The wait has seemed like an eternity. Thank you, NCAA, for reinstating Pat Liebig of Naples to play his final year of eligibility for the West Virginia University Mountaineers.
What a long road of the unknown and “hurry up and wait.”
Now the Liebig family and fans can move forward. No longer will Pat be asked a thousand times a day, “Have you heard anything yet?”
We heard it all loud and clear on Aug. 12 when the cell phones started ringing with the great news.
Under the circumstances of why Pat came home, how or why would the NCAA hold this against him? Pat was doing what I would think any child would do for his parents. He is the son that every parent wants.
Pat, you’ve worked hard all summer and now is your time to show ’em what you got!
Go Mountaineers!
— Shannon Van Antwerp, Naples
Special delivery
Editor, Daily News:
The U.S. Postal Service is so easily criticized when seen to be lacking.
Indeed, I’ve done it several times myself, but praise where praise is due. I was amazed to discover that my mailman delivered mail on Tuesday in the middle of Tropical Storm Faye’s winds and downpour.
Amazed is an understatement. The truth is, I was flabbergasted.
Kudos where kudos are due.
— Pauline Hayton, Naples
Caught in the Web
Editor, Daily News:
As I read the letters to the editor and clean out the junk mail on my computer, I see an upsetting trend.
One of the kindest tools given to hatemongers is the e-mail “forward” button.
I have received many letters that have been forwarded so many times it would take a dozen pages to print them.
Just some of the gems:
Barack Obama swears in on the Quran; Obama refuses to salute the flag; Obama removes the flag from his airplane; and the list goes on and on.
Most of the mail starts off with “I heard it on Fox (no one else will report the truth) and it was verified by Snopes (sic).”
None of these readers has actually taken the time to really check out these facts, or if they did they didn’t get by the first paragraph. If they had actually gone to the Snopes site, www.snopes.com, they would have read the true facts of the story.
Obama’s church is another big topic with hatemongers. Judging by their writing, we should assume that all members of a church or denomination are guilty by association with their pastors. I guess this must extend to all Catholics. Some of their priests have been just a little unsaintly. Even the Baptists, Mormons and televangelist listeners must be included.
The same hatemongers tend to lend a deaf ear to the swift boaters’ claim that John McCain is a “Manchurian candidate.” It must be true. I read it on the Net.
— Bob Upshaw, Naples
Ringing hollow
Editor, Daily News:
After reading Ralph E. Patsfall’s “Very big difference” letter, which attempted to differentiate our invasion of Iraq with Russia’s invasion of Georgia, I felt compelled to reply.
The only valid reason for our invasion of Iraq would have been if either the Iraqis had attacked us or the leadership of al-Qaida had been located in Iraq and Saddam Hussein had refused to turn them over to us. Since we knew the facts were different, we used a pre-emptive justification based on the purely subjective standard of when we felt it was necessary for our defense. Once used, we lost the moral high ground to object to other country’s subjective determination of when they felt it necessary to pre-emptively invade their enemies.
The proverbial slippery slope has resulted. President Bush telling the Russians that civilized countries don’t invade their neighbors rang with an especially hollow sound. Equally hollow will be our future statement that civilized countries don’t condone torture or spy on their citizens.
Patsfall’s claims that worldwide terrorists were being trained in Iraq, that Saddam was continuing his efforts to produce weapons of mass destruction, and that his continuing quest for more dictatorial control in the Middle East were valid reasons for our invasion, which have all been corroborated by data gathered over the past five years, is nonsense.
Iraq was not being used as a terrorist training ground before our invasion, there were no weapons of mass destruction and our southern and northern no-fly zones effectively contained Saddam to Iraq.
— Alan Buchholz, Naples
Seriously
Editor, Daily News:
I write to answer the question asked in the lead editorial of Aug. 18. The editorial spoke of the plans in Lee County to expand multimodal transportation system, i.e.. bike lanes, sidewalks and pathways.
It then closed with the question, “Are we (Collier County) serious about bike lanes or not?”
I answer that we are serious and we must become more serious. We must continue to follow a Complete Streets policy in Collier County.
We have made progress over the last decade, but we must do better. The health of the citizens demands it and the economic health of the community deserves our best efforts to make Collier County the model county for a multimodal transportation network.
I and my fellow members of the Greater Naples Pathways Coalition stand ready and willing to help in this endeavor and I encourage all Collier citizens to become involved in this process. For more information, go to www.naplespathways.org.

‘Eye’ had it
Editor, Daily News:
Kudos to Bill McMullan, who stayed up through the night Monday to keep Marcoites informed about the storm’s progress.
Not many ordinary citizens have that sense of dedication.
Had it not been for www.eyeonmarco.com, his Web site, those of us who are vacationing elsewhere would not have had much information about the storm.
His frequent reports helped us know how our island was faring, and I for one am very grateful. He should get some recognition from officialdom.
Eyeonmarco keeps us up to date on city happenings. During the storm watch he filed reports to all of those on his mailing list every couple of hours, including nights and mornings.
I don’t think he got any sleep for a few days.
— David Rush, Marco Island

FACTS ARE TOUGH TO OVERCOME:
FACT - Braco has a step brother who lives in Africa and makes the equivalent of $1.00 per month.
Fact: Braco is in the upper 3-5% of the population regarding wealth/yearly earnings.
Fact: He has a half brother that he has known about for years who lives in squalor. He has had "dubious associates" whose reputations were well known to everyone except Braco.
"CONVENIENT MEMORY", Braco is your guy!
My God! The guy can't even send his brother a matching $1.00 a month! But he wants to take YOUR money and distribute it around in the name of fairness or socialism or Marxism or whatever he calls it.
He wants to "RAISE TAXES" in this kind of economy? Recently he told a 7 year old girl "nothing but negative things" about this GREAT COUNTRY and his comments are documented. He cannot speak off the top of his head coherently and requires a prompter. Now the brother thing. There is an old saying that fits Braco well, "He speaks with forked tongue".
REGARDLESS of your party affiliation, this is not the guy we want leading our country!!!
As much as it kills me to say this, I am rooting for Broom Hilary. Excuse me while I hurl.

Elaine Paulson -
You thank God for sparing us from tropical storm Fay. I wonder why God didn't do anything to stop the flooding in other parts of Florida. I guess God likes us better than the people in central and northern Florida. God always shows favoritism when it comes to storms. He lets some people suffer and blesses other people. The ways of the Lord are hard to understand.

Remember High School? There was always that clique that insisted on giving derisive nicknames to anyone they didn't agree with or that they envied. I guess some people never outgrow that cruelty.
P.S. I also guess no one wants to talk about Jesus, divorce and adultery... I don't blame them.

I am sure God would look kindly at my posts when other are blaspheming His name
you would reserve all the name calling to you right wing posters???...perhaps you can join hands with Rejoice and join in with his vile comments??

Face it...if those christian crosses on the beach were put up by Bush to honor the dead, you would think it was a wonderful thing..A glowing show of christianity and patriotism.
In republican world, you take the opposite view of anything holy or good just to be partisan.
Torture? Bring it on! Lying about going to war? Bring it on. Bad execution of the war?...they did a heck of a job right?
Up is down, right is wrong.
Alternative energy? New economy and jobs?...how could anyone fight against all the positives of that? Yet, it is suddenly a leftie issue so thus despised and mocked.
Human rights for all? Despised!
Torture, war profiteering, all dandy in republican world.

When President Clinton was elected our country was in an economic recession from the Reagan/Bush era. Clinton rebalanced the Fed tax rates [ raised taxes for higher incomes and decreased taxes for middle and lower incomes]. Within a few years our economy was booming, EVERYONE was doing better. This is what a Democrat President does and what Obama will do also.
During the Clinton years average household income went up $7,000, Bush jr years it went down a $1,000, enough said.

The OBAMANATION insiders are calling for a truth commission based upon South Africa's as one of his first acts. We cannot begin to heal until the neocons that hijacked this country and ran roughshod over the constitution are held accountable. Closing all of Guantanamo prison except for a small area to be used for housing those convicted is a master stroke. Hope Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld, and crew like the sun. The dog cages were their idea. Let them tell us how effective they are for 5-10 years.

Using facts when conversing with the "LEFT" is not fair. The left operates on "egos & emotions"! You must use "talking points" that have no factual basis. Why do you want to embarrass the "left" by pointing out their short comings?
"HURL" means to throw up! Broom Hilary is the only chance the Dems have to save their party and the USA. If "hurling" will help Broom Hilary,
"hurl" as often as you can between now and the convention.
As far as Braco's brother goes, obviously Barco doesn't owe anything to or feel for his brother. That is his choice! However, do not question Braco's desire to take your money and distribute it, that is ok! Remember, "What's your's is mine, so says Braco!"

"Thank God we were well-spared in the visit from Tropical Storm Fay." Elaine Paulson
I suppose by 'we' you mean you and yours?
It's strange that you went to mass and thanked God for his mecy, then went home and battened down the hatches against His wrath.
Why didn't you pray for God to make the storm go away? You are one of those people who thank God for curing a loved one of some horrible disease and never question why they had to suffer in the first place.
"MIAMI (AFP) - Seven people have been killed over the five days that Tropical Storm Fay has been pounding Florida with torrential rain and powerful winds, state officials said Friday."
Next time you go to mass, Elaine, pray for some compassion.

POST #46:
You wrote:Braco "didn't even know the guy". Then you wrote: "he met him once".
Which one is fact?
By the way "KOOL AIDE" is a popular drink for children! Remember...there is a lot of sugar in it and may interfere with intelligent thoughts.
Fact: Less than 3-5% OF 300,000,000 people in the "GREATEST COUNTRY" in the world make an annual "yearly income" of $150,000 or more. Braco falls into this range. Please see annual salaries for government employees. It will be good reading while you drink your kool aide.

Petty, vindictive, immaterial, and one sided.Partisan politics at it's worst.
Boring, repetitive, and small minded.
I suggest people with ideas, simply ignore the Rejoices, Gone Fishn etc diatribes silliness and discuss serious issues.
Obama will lower our TAXES. But raise taxes on the upper income people, who I am sure will gladly, patriotically help reduce that war debt.
Health care! How many of you have friends who are simply Sh. out of luck, when it comes to getting sick and losing everything? Obama has a plan, McCain is more of the same past 8 years, where we could all go bankrupt if we get sick.

Ah Republican, Conservatives and most of all "Bushies and his disciple McCain":
I've been "Biden" my time to see you rascals flurry about digging for any kind of mud you can find to "defend" your Viagara, "I surrender", "check with my staff" candidate.
Man, that plagiarism charge is really "hot stuff". Not as good as Soetoro, but really a good charge to cover the lies and deception of the Bush administration over the last 8 years. Any voter should be able to "grab on" to that one and forget about WMDs, "You're doing a great job Brownie" and "I looked into Putin's eyes and saw his soul" and anoint McCain, his disciple as the benchmark for the future.
Gee, is that a rumor that Biden's son is in the service and liable for duty in Iraq? Oh , he is in the Jag corps. That wouldn't count in Dick Cheney's opinion.
P.S. What's this "lie" that is circulating that military personnel in Iraq are contributing to Obama's campaign by a margin of 6 to 1. That can't be true. What's the ratio of officers to non officer personnel? Just wondering. I bet it's on U-Tube the GOP fanatic's "encyclopedia".

Hey Rejoice: Just think how lucky you are to point out the FACT that Obama has a half sister from his Indonesian "experience", a half brother, from his African father's return to Kenya. In the eyes of any astute Republican foreign affairs "specialist", the man is an "International Disaster". Be careful now, but you should check with Bushie to see if this also qualifies for the designation "Nuclear or nucular family" (Bushie knows which one is right!)Bushie makes Roget look like an amateur. McCain has learned this also from Bushie and will be able to keep us "posted" right after he checks with his staff.
Rejoice, as a "learned" GOP "guru", can you distinguish the "immorality" of all these Obama family relationships in comparison to McCain's family situation resulting from two marriages? Does McCain really have 3 sons by his first marriage and what are their names? Are they all the same. Hope they aren't "stained" in any way that might indicate "corruption" by your standards. Advise please.

Hey Gonefishin: This problem you have with Obama's name and Osama Bin Ladin. Is this the "confusion" that Republicans seem to have in capturing the terrorist, or is the Bush Justice Department going to make an arrest in Denver next week? I hope the problem isn't because Bushie doesn't want to alienate Bin Ladin's family and their oil buddies. I know you GOP stalwarts have "proven" beyond any doubt that the Bush administration had absolutely nothing to do with the escape of Osama Bin Ladin's family immediately after 9/11. That, too, was an "honest coincidence". Where's the rest of the swamp land you guys have for sale? Prices are in the "tank" these days thanks to Phil Gramm and his GOP economic "seers".

Before you are captured, do you have to surrender? Do "heroes" surrender? I suppose there can be some "extenuating" circumstances like being unconscious after a traumatic experience, but can we hear the details of this "saga"? What a movie this could make. It surely will be better than the one about Nixon.

Obama's childhood mentor:
"through Frank Marshall Davis, Obama had an admitted relationship with someone who was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The record shows that Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis, listening to his “poetry” and getting advice on his career path. But Obama, in his book, Dreams From My Father, refers to him repeatedly as just “Frank.”
"The reason is apparent: Davis was a known communist who belonged to a party subservient to the Soviet Union."
Nah, that couldn't possibly have affected Obama's thinking. No wonder he is so far left that he'd hang out with Ayers and Dohrn.

Hey Rejoice: This AWNAA you are warning us about, is this going to apply to the likes of:
1. Survivors of late term abortions?
2. People born with birth defects period?
3. Chronic health and disabled victims including military personnel who are discharged and cannot return to duty?
4. Minorities, especially illegals, that don't "officially" register and or have the right to life that conservatives demand and illustrate? You know "from birth to death, or something according to GOP interpretation".
5. And most importantly, those people that don't recognize and maintain the "class" they were born into and refuse to remain in their "place"?

Last night Umleed on a post said it was the liberals fault that we were doing miserably in Iraq. That's funny, I thought Bush and Cheney were running the show. They're the ones who lied getting us into this mess. They're the one's who have driven up our debt by another 4 trillion dollars while using FICA receipts in the regular budget which if taken out, that debt is much worse.
Tell me what the Democrats had to do with this draining of our military in a dumb, yes dumb and unnecessary war?
Face it Umleed, this mess in Iraq and failure to even address al Qaeda totally belongs in the Neo Con's lap.
They are miserable foreign policy failures, no matter how you look at it.
Now tell me, Umleed, what would you have done to, so call, win in Iraq? If it's different than Bush's handling, then how can you defend Bush?
Also, what I noticed is that Neo Cons claim they did this also for women. I guess they didn't know women had equal rights in Iraq. And, sense when did Right Wingers care about women anyway?
I also guess they didn't notice that in Saudi Arabia, Bush's big buddy, women can't even drive a car there.
So caring about women is bunk. Just bunk.

Although Biden is not a bad choice for vice president, Obama had, in my mind, better choices.
I would have said Hillary should have been his first choice, but then the way Bill Clinton's has been acting, I can see that choice would have been difficult.
If Hillary dumped Bill, I think she'd be much better, and maybe might have even made the nomination.
Bill's trouble is he's so wrapped up in himself, it's all about him, he can't take losing. He's pouting. But how long can a person pout?
Hillary, on the other hand, who was not my choice nor did I like her very much, has impressed me with her good sportsmanship and commitment to the Democratic Party, putting a win for them above her own personal feelings. Now, that I admire. And my opinion of her has grown immensely. Whereas my opinion of Bill has fallen immensely.
I can see that Obama could not pick Hillary with Bill's attitude. Obama couldn't be bogged down with Bill hanging over his head. It would be too hard for him to lead, and too hard for Bill to follow.

Biden in 2002: "I think Saddam either has to be separated from his weapons or taken out of power."
A month later he voted for a resolution authorizing just that.
From an article I posted yesterday:
Obama's greatest career accomplishment to date is that he wasn't elected to the US Senate when votes were taken to authorize the invasion of Iraq.

I heard a number of years ago of the charge of plagiarism levelled against Biden. I'm not sure of the details or his awareness of what he was doing.
I know a lot of us hear good sayings or circumstances and repeat them without knowing who said them in the first place, so I suppose also in writing, one could make that same mistake. It's funny a proof reader or a publisher didn't catch it. So I don't know how serious it was. At any rate, that's pretty small, repeating something good sthat someone said, compared with using lies that someone said to get us into war.
The gravity of what Bush did in using and repeating questionable and even false information to put us into a long and miserable war so outways the wrong that Biden did, if he did plagiarize.
I've noticed that the Right Wing omit the really serious actions and get picky picky on little nonsense things that have hurt no one and have not much to do with the issues before us.
What is important is where each candidate plans to lead us, what does he plan to do domestically and in foreign policy. Those are the weighty issues before us, not the piccadillo's of years past.

Canuck... old friend... here's that article I mentioned about a week ago about the Pontifical Academy of Sciences:

It should make those of us Catholics in the Science and Technology fields proud of our religion.
Rejoice... you might be interested in it too. Also those of you who think that the Universe is only 6,000 years old might remember this article when you claim that literal belief in Genesis is a "Christian" thing.

Well, Rejoice, your post number 101 explains why you're so mixed up about foreign and domestic affairs and people in politics. You can't even get it straight when someone says the first and last name of someone whom that someone is talking about, namely Bill Clinton. I know you were joking, but, it just rings so true about all of your posts.
Canuck, hang in there. People a lot of times can't show respect for other people's religious beliefs. I was once a Catholic, so I know how important it can be to you.
My only problem is when people want to transfer their religious beliefs into laws that affect others who don't agree.
Mixing religion in politics is a slippery slope. We do not want to find ourselves in a theocracy that is governed by one particular religion. It not only destroys our freedoms, it puts all religions at risk.

Rejoice: Your info on IQ of Obama and Biden - I bet your "reports" emanate from the new Patriot Act provisions allowing government wire taps for "security reasons" to "fight terrorists". To the GOP. it is obvious the Democratic ticket has instilled "terror" into Republicans period! But, no matter, that will change after November. It will either get better or continue in the Bush/Cheney theme of undermining the Constitution and promoting executive power. "King George" has decreed his will to his "subject" McCain.

Can this be explained away?
November, 2005 - Obama reiterates his position that the troops should stay in Iraq until the job is done, with no timetable imposed.
June, 2006 - Obama reiterates the same position - troops should stay, don't impose a timetable.
June, 2006 - Rezko receives word that the Chamchamal Power Project was cancelled. They protest this by sending a representative to negotiate with a representative from Obama's Moline office, where the Iraqi security forces were going to be trained before the cancellation of the project. Nothing comes of the negotiations.
August, 2006 - Alsammare, the Iraqi Minister of Electricity, is investigated for corruption.
November, 2006 - Rezko is notified that the cancellation of the Chamchamal project has become irrevocable.
November, 2006 (two weeks later) - Obama declares that the situation in Iraq is unwinnable, proposes a timetable for withdrawal beginning in 2007.

"What does Mr. Alsammarae know that America wants to protect? The most significant thing about Mr. Alsammarae and the U.S. at this moment is that, as soon as he returned to Chicago in January 2007, he was questioned by U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald with regard to the complex alleged crimes in Illinois that are linked to...the political fixer Tony Rezko.
How does this connect to Sen. Obama? "It is Mr. Alsammarae's ties to Mr. Rezko that connect both men to Mr. Rezko's political protégé, Senator Barack Obama," Batchelor wrote, stating that "Whether—and to what degree—the apparent Rezko-Alsammarae conspiracy, organized in Chicago and executed in Illinois and Iraq, connects to Senator Obama is not yet in focus."

Inquisitive, well, there you are, wrong again. I'm not an Independent, I am your old time regular Republican, you know the one's that existed before the Neo Cons took over.
I'm a big follower of Ron Paul, an unswervable conservative libertarian, one who doesn't think we should be all over running the world.
Also, you said I have no clue about Iraq. Well, listen up, you blow hard, I've known for a long time this was a big stupid mistake, and I was right. Got that, I was right.
I knew before we went into Iraq that Bush and Cheney were cooking up something of no good. It was obvious as the nose on your face. I can't figure why everyone didn't see that the invasion of Iraq was built on a big lie, and Bush and Cheney had this planned way before 9/11. It had nothing to do with terrorism or the poor Iraqi people, or Saddam being a bad guy. It had to do with imperialism, control of the Middle East and the oil. It was overinflated hubris and power at its worse.
Now, you naive little puppy, if you're still in the dark, then there's no help for you. Bush controls your brain, and no matter what rotten results you see, no matter this has taken down our military big time, no matter we have over 4100 deaths and 10's of thousands of soldiers seriously and permanently wounded, you still sit in stupid land. Well, stay there. There rest of us are trying to move on and save this country from the wreck that Bush and Cheney have made and that McCain will continue.
Obama will win, got that. He will win because I think maybe somebody up there is listening to our prayers and giving us another chance.

"Alsammarae, the Iraqi-born fugitive and American citizen, is "listed on an Interpol warrant as being wanted by the Republic of Iraq." Alsammarae, who served July 2003 to May 2005 as Minister of Electricity under the U.S.-led Coalition Provisional Authority, was convicted in October 2006 by an Iraqi court in Baghdad of "helping to plunder his ministry of $650 million." In December 2006 Alsammarae escaped from a Baghdad jail inside the Green Zone, "under little explained circumstances," Bachelor noted, and "fled via Amman to Chicago, where he has been at work at his engineering consulting firm."
Alsammarae had the protection of the Jordanians,' the official said. 'He has the protection of several countries, but not Iraq.'
"American protection might explain why," Batchelor added, "when the Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, asked the FBI last year for help, he was unhelpfully advised to contact Interpol."
Interestingly, Alsammarae claims he escaped from Iraq "the Chicago way."

Rejoice, when someone says something you don't like you call them a liberal. Well, maybe liberal isn't such bad thing to be if it means smart and on to the crookedness that's been going on crushing the American people.
I just saw Obama and Biden on introducing Biden as the V.P. Biden gave a darn good speech. I think he will be an asset to the ticket.
I also don't mind our working with the UN, and Bush and Cheney must have thought it was okay too since in almost 8 years they haven't left it.
I think tshe UN is good as a place to meet with other nations, exchange opinions and present our feelings about things going on in the world.
The Neo Cons make no sensse for they want to be isolated on the one hand and imperialist on the other. At least Ron Paul is consistant. He doesn't want to be part of the UN, but also he doesn't believe in Imperialism.
So, Biden's support of the UN is not a bad thing, and I'm thinking maybe it's a good thing to keep countries from getting aggressive on other countries. It can protect sovereignty rather than threaten it.
Anyway, I think Obama and Biden will make a good team, and if Hillary's supporters and her husband Bill can get out of their snit and think about America first, this election is a wrap up for the Obama/Biden team.
McCain really doesn't have a thing to stand on when he's with Bush on everything, and we know how that's been.

Gonefishin: Sorry, I had to take a "time out" to watch a stirring oratory from Springfield, Illinois.
Now about "repeating your kind of history".
A lot of people were "sold a bill of goods" by the Bush administration, The "whole world knew that Iraq had WMD's. The "Bush Intelligence" dictated it. Of course, everybody else had their "own pipeline" (pun) into what was going on in Iraq, and thereby could confirm what Bush's neocons had created. (History) But, let's be honest. If you are really a good Republican (like You) it is absolutely a sure thing that those WMDs are buried in Syria or Iran. Anybody with "GOP reason" can come up with that "intelligence".
The Niger "buy" by Sadaam was "proof" of that same sinister policy. If you don't believe it, ask Dick Cheney and Karl Rove. Oh, wait a minute, they don't have to answer any questions from congress or anybody else. That's "executive privilege" otherwise known as "bury your mistakes". Do you think Republicans didn't learn anything from Watergate? Rove has often said, Nixon would never have been sent running for the hills if he had been in the White House at the "controls".
Oh yes, Gonefishin. You don't like any kind of history if it isn't your version. You know, that great GOP "statesman" who put out a "contract" on America, Newt Gingrich, is also a "historian" in between his romantic trysts. He even has a "slant" on the Civil War and WWII. You should read them. You might have been on a plantation today and America would be a more "conservative" nation if Newt's theories are valid.

NaplesCracker, yes, you are right. I do know the Neo Cons are Trotskyites, left wing who had a different foreign policy than the Republicans, but the joined the conservatives, bought their right wing conservative agenda, even though they didn't believe in it, and struck out in a new direction on foreign policy, one that has been bad, bad for the U.S.
But, somehow they got control of the Republican party, won the election and took us way off our course. And, you see where that got us. In the dump.
You go back to the 1990's, and we were still Republicans, we had the Contracts With America, spelling out our goals, balancing the budget, resisting our involvement outside like Bosnia and Kosovo. We corrected welfare with good reform and Immigration reform.
But Bush and now McCain dumped immigration reform and didn't enforce what the Newt Gingrich Republicans had accomplished.
Look at Bush, I mean objectively, look at Bush and Cheney and their whole outfit, they do nothing Republican, and that's why we're in this terrible mess.
They try to placate the social conservatives, enough to get their votes, but they don't believe in that stuff. Not at all.
I don't think Bush was a neo con when he ran for president, but he was quickly swept in, and Cheney did a 180 degree turn from his stance on Iraq in the early 1990's. This whole thing was orchestrated by the neo cons, Wolfawitz, Perle, Crystal etc. A whole group that promoted our taking the Middle East.

And another thing, you better get off this "kick" about blaming Bush for problems simply because he is the president. Do you think he should be blamed for disasters that happened to occur on his "watch". Give him a break. He can fly a jet! Maybe Delta or United can use him after January? Inquisitive, First, you are so far off that I am factnofiction. I am and have always been nothing but Truthmatters.
As far as Iraq goes, it's hard to know what winning is in Iraq when it was such a mishmash of a reason to invade. It covered about everything Bush/Cheney could think of. You know, cover your a...
If this was under the UN Resolutions and mandates, why didn't we get a resolution to go in there? Of course you know it wouldn't have passed because other countries aren't neo cons and knew, there was no reason to invade Iraq, none.
Saddam hadn't aggressed or done anything for nearly 10 years. He was totally disabled under sanctions with UN Inspectors crawling all over the place, finding no weapons, nothing.
But, you see, none of that mattered because it's well known that Bush/Cheney planned to invade Iraq from the day they took office.
This is known by Republicans as well as Democrats because of the insiders who served Bush.
You have been fooled, and I love this country better than you because I will allow no leader, no one to do stupid, aggressive, greedy things for their benefit and at my country's expense.
Who loves our troops more? We who will not allow an administration for their own private goals to use our soldiers like fodder in their needless and zealous puruits or those who obediently let leaders do as they please with our military with no oversight on them?
The Congress was hoodwink, though not all of them, and you know it, or you should know it.
And don't you ever dare say I don't love this country. If I didn't I'd just read some novels and loll around and let the soldiers die, year after year for nothing.
You look at those soldiers wounded, crippled for life, their young lives ruined because of lies. Yes, we were lied to and if you're still buying that they didn't lie to you, you are really a goner.
Saddam was absolutely no threat to us. He was totally contained. There were no mass murders going on. Iraq was secular with equal rights for everyone. Sunni, Jewish, Christian and Shiite lived side by side in peace. They could walk the streets without fear. We have been nothing but a bane to them, and our sanctions caused many children to be undernourished and starved. They were innocent, but all Iraq suffered under our strict sanctions.
This is not my America, and I won't allow it to be trashed like you Right Wing Neo Con Hawks have done.

And, also I am not just a RINO, I am a true Republican. My parents were Republican. I walked the streets with leaflets for Goldwater. I voted for Nixon the first time. I voted for Ford.
You seem to have no trouble with Reagan's saying that the Democratic party left him. Well, the Republican Party has left not only me but a lot of other Republicans who are upset wondering where their party went.
I voted for Bush Sr, I did not vote for Clinton. I voted for Dole. I voted for Bush Jr. the first time, and then it all fell apart. It was like the Twin Towers at 9/11. It all came crumbling down.
Good Republicans like Chuck Hagel see this. Sen. Gorden Smith of Oregon. And true and steady, Ron Paul has watched it all.
There are many other, a number of my personal friends who stand in dismay knowing we cannot vote for these neo cons who have destroyed not only our country but our party.
So, huff and puff all you want, disagree with me all you want, but don't you ever say I don't love this country or care what we leave our children. I care a lot, and I know we were given a great gift of a country we could be proud of and all of you who join these neo con bast...s are going to have to suck up the resistance you get from those of us who love this country seemingly far more than you do.

#186 Eh Inquisitive, please elaborate about Kerry's attempt to "forge" Bush's military service. That military record seems to have been sealed like Bush's DUI. Wasn't it Dan Rather that ruffled your feathers with the other disciples of Crawford's "finest"?
Scooter Libby is a convicted felon, a FACT he has conceded. That's not "crap", but a RECORD!
What does the Plame CIA leak got to do with Iraq you ask? Well, the "case" is surrounded by a State of the Union speech by Bushie accusing the nation of Niger of selling materials for a WMD. Plame's husband was targeted by Cheney's "hit squad" to not only expose a CIA agent, but to revenge the disclosure of Bush's lie.
Get with Gonefishin and hit that U-tube GOP encyclopedia. It will help you get some material.

umleed....go crawl back under your rock.....you are a despicable human being and I want nothing to do with you

Hey Rejoice I see you hit on your morality "campaign" today citing the Pope etc.
What is your learned solution and position on how to deal with homosexuals? Do you just "pray" for them? Do you have a pill from Merck or Pfizer (like Viagara) that will take care of the problem? Do you suggest that they talk to a clergyman regarding sexual tendencies and behavior. (check list of altar boy "fans")
Certainly you don't propose a "final solution" to the problem. Even you wouldn't be that "conservative". Think of Dick Cheney's daughter.
How about it? Give us the "dope"!

Rejoice...I remind you that you that you posted those comments as fact to truthmatters....now I am asking you to prove it......which you can't......so you posted a lie AGAIN
I have told you it is against my beliefs and I do not have to prove my faith to you or anyone else
so get on with it and show me where I agree with those statements

Inquisitive, yeh it's getting hot isn't it? Don't drink too much tonight. Your hangover won't have you in shape upon your return. Don't forget not to drive. I know you follow your "idol Bush in every respect, but a DUI? That can be expensive.

Canuck, thank you for defending me on that name that Umleed called my. I can see you are a gentleman. It really dismays me when they attack your religion and you for caring about your religion.
Inquisitive, you're a Christian? Gull, I never would have known it. Maybe it might help to study a little more what Christ taught.
Good Night everyone.

Rejoice, I'm not asking you to subscribe to anything. That's the problem! You don't have a solution, an answer or anything else on the subject. All you can do is to show your ignorance and point at a problem hoping it will make you look smarter. You would make a great Pharisee. Check your bible, and super impose it on the Constitution. That should keep you up all night. You might consult the Reverend Robertson or that guy out in Utah who is in jail now.

Hey Inquisitive: Nice curtain call. I admire your conservative behavior, but again your eccentric presumptuousness is unwarranted and baseless.

"Take Canuck. He preaches tolerance and love. Yet, he is the most intolerant person on the blog....even worse than Rationalman and other non-believers.
He interprets his view of Scripture to suit himself. He does not follow the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. He tolerates things like partial birth abortion, gay marriage and worships false idols in the form of his liberal agenda."

you did not "allude" to it you made a direct statement
if these were not statements of fact then the world is not round???????
I really do not expect you to back off and admit you were wrong let alone an apology but it is out there for everyone to see for themselves and judge

#210 Who is that directed at? I think Gay people have the same protections I have. They need to obey the law and avoid some "land mines" that one state or another may impose.

everything you said is against my faith and my beliefs and I resent you posting these lies on this space

I never heard you. I do not know what your beliefs are.

Rejoice: What in God's creation does any of your #217 postings have to do with a solution to the "Gay problem" as you put it? Stay on topic. Your answer is a classic example of conservative GOP rhetoric that ignores what they can't handle or define. The emperor has no clothes! You lose!

Dear NDN, reading the opinions page used to be enjoyable. The policy of attaching posted opinions was not well thought out. All I see is post after post from the same people arguing, mud-slinging, and insulting one another. It is childish and obviously discourages intelligent opinions from being posted. The NDN should limit each individual screen name to one comment of a specific length. If people want to argue with one another they should be e-mailing each other directly and leave the rest of us out of it. Better yet, just eliminate the posted opinions and insert more letters to the Editor.
