Letter of the Day: To dust we shall return

Editor, Daily News:

In Wednesday’s paper there was an article on a different subject, the disposal of cremation ashes abandoned by families at funeral homes.

My family has been using cremation for three generations. My grandfather, an engineer, had to move a graveyard in the Boston area to a new site in the early 1900s and since then we have always been cremated.

When I was young we were the odd ones for not having the usual type of funerals and burials. Today I would gather that cremation memorial services are much more common.

When we lived in Michigan, an undertaker named Thomas Lynch wrote a book called “The Undertaking” about his business. If it is still around it is an interesting read. I remember the accumulation of people’s ashes having been one of his problems.

The gist of his book, however, is caring for the living — because the dead do not care.

Boston-area funeral director Peter Stefan, quoted in the Associated Press article, has given us a new political issue: How to now bury the dead.

We can now create a new public fund and set aside some property in our towns and instead of calling it Potter’s Field we could rename it. We can have a contest among the locals as to the name of the site for those who choose not to pick up the ashes of their “loved ones”?

Letter: To the rescue

Editor, Daily News:

Our big dogs need help!

The Florida Saint Bernard Rescue organization is in dire need of foster and forever homes.

We don’t want any of our beautiful friends to be put to sleep in kill shelters because we can’t make room for them.

Don’t think of a Saint as a huge, drooling Beethoven that tears your house apart. Saints are generally very laid back, extremely friendly and affectionate.

All they need is a loving home that can provide food, indoor care and lots of hugs.

They don’t require a lot of space.

If you are interested in becoming a foster parent or would like to adopt, please visit the Web site www.saintrescue.org/florida.htm or call me at 390-2696.

Letter: Limit the fools

Editor, Daily News:

I realize you have a policy of one letter per two weeks.

I feel you should add to your policy a limit of letters by the same person to a limited number per year.

It gets frustrating to read the same ones using the medium to try and convince everyone to their foolish way of thinking.

Art Largent, Naples

Letter: Policy and the presidency

Editor, Daily News:

On Aug. 8, the Georgian military attacked South Ossetia in an effort to assert its sovereignty over that area. Naturally, each side said the other started the fight. The attack provided the excuse for Russia to attack Georgia and crush the Georgian military.

Georgia had not exercised sovereignty over South Ossetia since the collapse of the Soviet Union more then 15 years ago. South Ossetia has a population of about 70,000. About two-thirds speak a different language and have a different culture from the rest of Georgia. It has had the support of Russia from the beginning.

What ever could have possessed Georgia to attack at this time? Georgia is a country of less than 5 million and has no military chance against Russia.

The U.S. has supported Georgia and provided arms and training. If President Bush did not plainly tell the president of Georgia that attacking South Ossetia would give an excuse to Russia to crush Georgia militarily and that the U.S. would provide no military help, then President Bush bears substantial responsibility for the disaster.

And John McCain makes the problem worse. He suggests making Georgia a member of NATO. Surely he understands that would require the U.S. by treaty to help Georgia militarily. Do we need a third war while we are already fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan?

Teddy Roosevelt advised speaking softly but carrying a big stick.

McCain speaks loudly but carries nothing.

This country cannot afford another loose cannon as president.

Aaron Knott, Naples

Letter: Get what we pay for?

Editor, Daily News:

Now that the new higher Florida Power & Light rates are in effect, I wonder if we will no longer have the weekly power blips that cause us to reset the clocks on our appliances — or will we still have to play their silly game?

Elmer (Butch) Janca, Naples

Letter: Something not right

Editor, Daily News:

Talk about being out of touch with a huge segment of voters!

How many of us — typical elderly white women (not my words but those of Barack Obama) — really own and use the equipment that is needed for text messaging?

Oh, well, another slap in the face from him.

Whoever is handling him is not doing him any favors.

For the first time since I was old enough to vote, I plan on voting for another party’s candidate — anybody but Obama — and I certainly hope that Hillary Clinton does not end up on his ticket because she will only cause her supporters to take another look at her.

Remember, change is directional: either for the good or for the worse. I agree that we need a change, but I don’t think Obama can or will deliver it.

Elizabeth M. Jenkins, Naples

Letter: No room to talk

Editor, Daily News:

Apparently letter-writer John Riccio was in many places at many times. His assessment of John McCain’s military service, in comparison to John Kerry and Chuck Hagel’s military experience, would require that he had been present during these situations.

No one who wasn’t there at the time would know the extent of their conduct under fire. I guess in Riccio’s mind being a POW is no big deal, and if anything is less than honorable, even though there were several POWs awarded the Medal of Honor.

By his own admission, Riccio never served a day in combat, but he claims he almost went. Sorry, close doesn’t count, and at the very least, opinions on the subject should come from someone with experience.

If he doesn’t like McCain for whatever reason, he is entitled to vote against him, but he hasn’t earned the right to stand in judgment of his military service.

George Brondsema, Naples

Letter: Chances of success? Slim

Editor, Daily News:

I need to get this off my chest. Or maybe my tummy.

My wife recently told me that I was fat.

Another “friend” told me I was obese. I don’t even know what “obese” means.

Well, anyway, I decided to do something about it.

On television I saw an ad for a diet plan showing beautiful, tasty-looking plates and large servings.

Then they introduced a couple of people I used to admire: Don Shula and Dan Marino. They stated how they’d lost a lot of weight, etc.

Baloney!

I’d wager they cheated.

Well, I tried it. I ordered a four-week supply of food for almost $250.

Talk about bad! It was neither tasty nor filling. It was awful.

I gave my cats some of the “tasty” lunch. They were gone for three days, and they still won’t have anything to do with me. My wife has to feed them now. They don’t trust me anymore.

My neighbors’ dog, Crabby, came by and I gave him a taste.

Crabby bit me.

Will I stick to that diet? Fat chance.

Bob Moates, Naples

Letter: Paying attention?

Editor, Daily News:

Throw it away, but equally.

A vote for a third party is a vote for the person you want the least.

It is that simple.

There are generally two categories of people who vote for a third party: emotional children who throw a tantrum because they do not get their way and those who are angry and want to make a statement, regardless of effect.

For both of you (and you are really the same), no one cares about you.

You are shouting, “Pay attention to me. I am important and what I say counts.”

Like all followers of crusaders, you are a very unhappy group, blaming us for you.

The positive side is that there seems to be a fairly equally amount of loonies driving themselves away from the left and the right.

Bruce Reichert, Naples

Letter: In or out of political mix?

Editor, Daily News:

In a recent letter of the day, William Conklin pointed out the fact that John Riccio calls his planting of crosses on Naples beach “Arlington South.” Conklin wrote that this “travesty does not honor the troops.”

I have more information to support Conklin’s accusation.

My wife became quite upset when she read Riccio’s claim that the “Disabled American Veterans (DAV) has given McCain a 20 percent rating and Barack Obama 80 percent when supporting its issues.” She was upset because she has been contributing money to the DAV for years, believing it to be a nonpartisan organization.

I contacted the DAV and shared Riccio’s letter with them. This is what I received from the DAV:

“We believe such activities would seriously harm the DAV’s ability to effectively represent disabled veterans before Congress, the White House, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and other government agencies and departments. It would threaten our tax-exempt status to become involved in any way with the political process. Those members count on us to advocate their needs as disabled veterans, and the DAV concentrates its attention and resources on this single, narrowly defined, nonpartisan cause. We hope this explanation is sufficient to answer your questions about the DAV’s position on politics.”

Tom Macchia, Naples

Letter: Thought provoking

Editor, Daily News:

Letter-writer Michael Adler recently expressed hope that the “forceful comments” by President Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will persuade the Russians to withdraw from Georgia.

He omitted mentioning that their initial “forceful comments” to the Georgians, strongly urging them not to invade South Ossetia, failed. On Aug. 8, the Georgians went ahead anyway, bringing on the Russian invasion.

Adler belittles Barack Obama’s comments that “all parties should show restraint” without taking into account: a) Obama is neither president nor secretary of state and hence has no authority to issue warnings on behalf of the government; b) the United States has relatively little, if any, clout over the Russians or, apparently, even over the Georgians; and c) the Georgia situation is not one-sided. Hence Obama’s reaction was entirely appropriate, unlike that of John McCain.

Arthur Walsh excoriated another writer for opposing offshore oil drilling. His reasoning, however, is curious, namely that it will be at least 10 years before alternative fuels become widely available. It would be interesting to know how long Walsh believes it will take for offshore drilling to significantly increase our oil supply? By most reckoning, it will take 10 years, and in the meantime demand will be rising here and abroad, sustaining high oil prices.

The answer clearly involves all the alternatives: conservation, drilling, where it will do relatively little environmental damage, plus full-speed ahead on alternative fuels.

Flo Beckler, Naples

Letter: Taxing outlook

Editor, Daily News:

We might have the option this November to vote to cut property taxes by raising other taxes, depending on the outcome of a lawsuit that has been filed to block the referendum.

Amendment 5, the “Property Tax Swap Amendment,” would reduce property taxes 25 percent. Other taxes would increase, including a rise in the state sales tax from 6 percent to 7 percent. When you do the math, it appears that the tax swap would end up being a huge tax increase, i.e., Amendment 5 is an $11 billion mandate that provides only $7 billion in tax relief or a $4 billion tax increase.

The Florida Legislature already has authority to shift school funding from local property taxes to state sources, e.g., a sales tax. Having Amendment 5’s mandate chiseled in stone in the state constitution would deny future legislators the flexibility they may need to address changing situations.

The fatal flaw in Florida taxes, now, is unconstrained growth in expenditures. We have a sales-tax system riddled with over $23 billion in loopholes or exemptions that should be re-examined for legitimacy, e.g., ostrich feed, luxury skyboxes, etc., to see if they still stand up to real scrutiny. More to the point, government needs to go on a diet.

Our commissioners acted wisely in accepting a millage-neutral budget for the coming year. Doing so, they exercised fiscal responsibility without jeopardizing public health or safety.

Dennis P. Vasey, Naples

Elizabeth, Elizabeth, What are you saying?
Because you do not own a texting cellphone, you are not voting for Obama?
Finally a candidate that is reaching out to the formerly very apathetic youth of our country.Hallelujah!
Trust me, you will not need text messaging or instant messaging to to help the elderly hang on to medicare and social security. Nor will your textmessaging be needed to end the reign of historic corporate corruption of the past 7 years.
All it will take is a simple vote for Obama.

George Brondsema, "If he doesn’t like McCain for whatever reason, he is entitled to vote against him, but he hasn’t earned the right to stand in judgment of his military service."

Shocking! That someone would sully a military man for political reasons. How right you are! Now I shake my head in amazement: how did you feel about the horrific swiftboating of Kerry and Cleland?

The left is very respectful of all those military men, including McCain's military record. It seems however, if you are a democrat, the rules change: from Kerry,to Cleland to John Riccio...the rhetoric is vicious and lethal.

Hypocrisy = republican.

Why doesn't Obama buy the land from Rezko? It can't be developed without an easement. It is just taking taxes from Rezko, who claims he has no money.

If you google swiftboat vets it's apparent that none of them were there either when Kerry did whatever he did to earn that medal and even his ex-C.O. is a little fuzzy when pushed. No wonder the term "swiftboating" has joined getting "borked" in the lexicon.

How do you win a discussion with a Liberal? Facts and more facts!!!

Conservatives: Quit picking on the Liberals/Left. It is not fair! You are experienced and educated, where as for the most part they are not. Shame on you!

Again leave Braco alone! He only wants what is good for everyone else... YOUR MONEY!!! He is trying to get his half brother at least a matching $1.00 per month from your contributions. How can you fault that sympathy? You know his half brother? The one who lives in squalor! Yea that one!

Not that I care about Larry Sinclair, but this is interesting.

For Barack Obama to choose Biden is simply Watergate suicidial. For Biden to willingly jump on a ticket considering the outright unAmerican thuggery he has had his boy carrying out against Lawrence Sinclair in the biggest gay bashing in history, is just begging for impeachment and prison time for him.

For a review of Joe Biden's accomplishments:

1. He had the Delaware Attorney General's office [Biden's son] create a bogus Grand Jury indictment.

2. He had the DC police illegally arrest and detain Lawrence Sinclair.

3. While in custody he deprived Mr. Sinclair of his needed medications as he has a brain tumor.

4. While in custody he had the DC police "loose" Mr. Sinclair so legal counsel could not find him.

5. While in custody he deprived Mr. Sinclair of phone access.

6. While in custody he had the Federal Attorney attempt to hold Mr. Sinclair indefinitely on outrageously high bail.

THE WAR ON TERROR

Canucks rescued, then jailed

Near-drowning leads to time in U.S. pokey

By MARC KILCHLING, SUN MEDIA

The Toronto Sun

Catherine Kerr of Scarborough got her two Sea-Doos back from U.S. authorities in Lewiston, N.Y., but she had to leave her boyfriend Jason Haist behind in jail. (VERONICA HENRI/Sun Media)

Two Toronto-area men are behind bars in a Buffalo detention centre after a dramatic rescue from the Niagara River resulted in them being charged with making an "illegal" entry into the U.S..

Jason Haist, of Scarborough, along with his cousin Edward Haist, were riding Sea-Doos up and down the river Saturday evening when they were knocked into the water after hitting strong currents near Devil's Hole State Park.

Edward washed up on the U.S. shore while Jason was pulled out of the river -- unconscious and suffering from a head injury -- by personnel on a tour boat.

The United States Coast Guard took Jason, who was wearing only a lifejacket and swim trunks, off the tour boat and transported him to Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, N.Y., for treatment.

Catherine Kerr, Jason's live-in girlfriend, later received a shocking message: Jason was going to be jailed for making an illegal entry into the U.S..

"He told me he had an accident and needed help but that the border patrol was coming to take him to jail," said Kerr, a Scarborough resident.

Both Jason and Edward were taken into custody by the U.S. Border Patrol and placed in the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility.

"They're being administratively charged with failure to report on landfall in the States," said A.J. Price, a border patrol agent with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

"I don't think it's fair," said a nervous Kerr, who spent a near sleepless night shaking and "freaking out."

"It was an accident and not like he had a choice what hospital to go to. Here's a guy who was drowning and lucky enough to be saved -- and now he faces this."

According to Kerr, Jason had asked and obtained permission from the U.S. Border Patrol to ride his Sea-Doo back and forth across the unseen border that runs down the middle of the Niagara River.

Price, meanwhile, said that while it's possible to go on both sides of the border on the river, a person must report to the appropriate authorities upon landing on American soil.

"We have no discretion in the matter and that's why we're giving it to an immigration judge," Price said.

The two men will attend a closed hearing before an immigration judge today. It's expected, they'll either be issued a removal order and deported back to Canada or the judge may dismiss the charges against them

From Wickipedia regarding Haditha:

"As of June 17, 2008, six defendants had their cases dropped and one was found not guilty. The exception is SSgt. Wuterich, whose trial date has been postponed."

Chet Edwards, coy on VP prospects, takes lead in attack on McCain record on veterans
2:49 PM Sun, Aug 17, 2008 | Permalink | Yahoo! Buzz
Todd J. Gillman E-mail News tips
Of all the pols on the short and not-so-short lists, Rep. Chet Edwards hasn't exactly been the most visible surrogate for Barack Obama. In fact, the Waco Democrat has laid low for the past month and a half, since House Speaker Nancy Pelosi started to publicly push him as her favorite VP pick.

But Sunday afternoon, Edwards took on the role of lead attack dog as Democrats put on pre-buttal conference call ahead of GOP Sen. John McCain's speech tomorrow to the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Orlando. (Obama speaks there Tuesday, and President Bush a day later.)

"Sen. Obama, unlike Sen. McCain, will put expansion of health care services for veterans as a higher priority than tax cuts for people making $1 million a year," Edwards said, arguing that some of McCain's policies would actually restrict access to VA health care for middle income veterans.

Regardless of McCain's heroism when he served in uniform, Edwards said, the Arizona senator's record on veterans health care and benefits is "bad" and "failed."

Edwards chairs the appropriations subcommittee that handles billions for veterans affairs and military construction, and is well liked by veterans groups. Not so much McCain, he asserted Sunday.

"Check the voting records of the major veterans service organizations and I think you'll be surprised as many others have been to find out that many of the respected veterans groups rate Sen. McCain's votes on veterans' health care and benefits very low."

Towit, he said: a 39 percent lifetime voting record from the Disabled American Veterans (Edwards spoke at their convention last week in Las Vegas), compared to an 89 percent rating for Obama. "I think that'll surprise a lot of Americans, and disappoint a lot of veterans," Edwards said, before ticking off another blasteding testimonial. It has been announced that VP Cheney has been put in charge of finding the "best man" for mcsame's vp.

We all know what happened last time he was given that responsibility.

His office announced that he will reveal the choice when he gets back from Georgia. When questioned, the VP responded "I got more important blasted things to do. This may be our last chance to engage the Russians and see what they're made of. And I've always thought the best route to Tehran is through Moscow."

Bullschmidt. Most of the people on the left that I know were so upset to hear the surge was working, that there's no doubt in my mind they couldn't care less about the troops.

They would rather see American soldiers die than have to give credit to the Bush admin for one right decision.

I don't have a cell phone. I don't feel I need one. I'm 84. Why aren't there any directories for cell phones? How can a person find out a person's cell phone number without a directory?

No wonder everyone is in debt and people live beyond their means. It is very expensive to live now days with all the modern technology. It's especially hard on older people who live on a small amount of income.

When I was a boy, I never heard of all the stuff people have now days. I'm not sure that all our modern inventions are such a good thing. People used to have time to read. It's hard now days to keep up with everything.

I can't understand why people have to be talking to other people all the time on their cell phones. You can't go any place without seeing people talking on cell phones. What do they talk about? It's dangerous to drive a car and talk on cell phones. If I want to tell someone something, I use my regular phone or send an email.

I guess I'm just old-fashioned. I've only had a computer for a little over a year. I guess the world is changing all the time.

When I was a boy, my father had a model A Ford. The phone was a crank phone where you had to ring shorts and longs to talk to anyone. For long distance, you had to ring for the operator. I was born before rotary phones were invented. The last few years have seen a lot of changes.

#45 Posted by rationalman on August 25, 2008 at 11:12 a.m. (Suggest removal)

P.S. I don't think all our modern inventions are good for the environment. Computers are made with lead, and can cause health problems unless properly disposed of. All our technological things are causing a lot of disposal problems. If thrown in the trash, the poisons can leach into our drinking water. Old television sets, computers, cell phones, etc. are often sent to third world countries to be dimantled and recycled. Some of those people take no precautions and are subject to radiation and lead poisoning.

I don't know what's ahead for the human race, but we are manufacturing a lot of poisons, which will have a negative effect on life on Earth. Some garbage dumps throughout the world are poisoned by throwing cell phones, computers and televisions in the garbage dumps.

The Earth has never known a time when there was so much trash and toxic materials as there is now days. Our cars and trucks are fowling the air and land. The oceans are dying. Maybe our conveniences will eventually destroy us.

What does McCain have to do with what I had to say? Everything isn't political. I don't think the destruction of the environment is political. It's a human problem. Of course, the Bush administration hasn't been good for the environment, but I'm not sure any politician is going to change things much. The economy would collapse if we didn't pollute the Earth. Our system is based on everything that pollutes and harms the environment.

None of us want to go back to the horse and buggy days. I don't either, but we are doing things that harm the Earth, just so that we can have a more comfortable life.

since Roadhouse found it necessary to include an insult to me in post #59 it gives me licence to comment on a subject that I would not normally

the complete story from Wikipedia:

The Haditha massacre was just as the name says..a massacre of innocent Iraq civilians..men,woman and children by US forces.... the report of which was falsified until uncovered by a Time magazine reporter...
of the 8 soldiers charged...7 has the chargesdropped.....not because the prosecution felt they were not guilty but the fact that Iraq witnesses would not be able to come to America to testify at a trial...hardly an exoneration

the commanding officer..LT.Col. Chessani was charged for not investigating the incident but had the charges stayed...which means they can be re-charged at a latter date....hardly an exoneration
the leader of the squad Staff Sgt. Wuterich has had the charges reduced to manslaughter, etc and will be tried at a later date

the facts of "60 minutes" are certainly more solid than the spin roadhouse wants to present

You can't judge a person by what their ancestors did. If that were the case we'd probably all be condemned.

You said that Obama is the white liberal's Christ. That is foolish talk. I don't think anyone thinks of Obama as their messiah or Christ. We are voting for a politician, a man, as our president. I doubt very much that what you wrote has any validity whatsoever.

Please keep religion out of the election. There is too much of it already without you muddying the waters any more.

I'm getting sick of this election. People are saying things that don't make any sense. Vote for who you want. Let everyone figure things out for themselves. I've been reading all the comments pro and con about Obama and McCain that I'm getting confused about either of them.

I will vote who I think can do the most good for the country. Their ancestry won't influnce my vote. It's what they are saying NOW and what they stand for that influences me.

I happen to like the Democratic platform best, and I don't like what McCain stands for, so I will vote for Obama. He's not Christ, neither is he perfect. No politician is Christ or perfect. We take what we get, warts and all.

Let's see now; should you vote for a guy who graduated from Harvard with honors or for a guy who graduated from the Naval Academy at the bottom of his class? Oh, wait a minute, the latter was shot down over Hanoi and was a POW for 5 years. Patriotism dictates who you should vote for. It's our turn to get "shot down". One thing you have to admit about George W. Bush, he never got shot down and he never would get tangled up in anything, let alone a parachute.

#54 Posted by Elephanttamer on August 25, 2008 at 2:59 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Well, it looks like Rejoice couldn't clean up his thoughts enough to make this site. Can't say I miss him.

Sunshinelover, people like what Obama's message is. That and that the guy has the talent to make a darn good speech. There's nothing religious or mysterious about it.

What he says has substance. He gives people something to hope for, and they know how they feel, now they just have someone who can express their feelings in powerful ways.

So, all you goof balls who hang on worthless and often phony trivia, I guess substance is hard for you to grasp.

My problem with McCain is that he's scarier than heck. The guy shoots off his mouth without thinking. He thinks in simplistic terms because he doesn't know what depth and breadth are in a subject. Consequently he acts rashly. He spouts off rash remarks without thinking, and I'm very afraid he'll shoot from the hip, start another war for no good reason and put this country in a horror we haven't seen.

We're not talking about conventional weapons anymore. We're talking about Nukes, and in McCains hands I fear the nukes will be flying before we even know what happened.

Yes, we know he was a prisoner of war for 5 years. We know that's a terrible thing to suffer, but we also know that many soldiers cannot go through something like that without serious trauma.

And, going through something like that does not give him any special qualities to be president. It does not mean he's more experienced or can think better or anything like that. And at his age, going through that trauma along with age, I'd say that's a minus for being president which takes clarity, energy and strength.

We can respect and be grateful for the service done by our soldiers, and when they do extraordinary things they receive medals and honors which will show for many years their heroism.

There were two exceptionally good letters today. One by Flo Beckler and the by Aaron Knott.

They addressed the lack of hearing the other side of the Georgian incidence.

Georgia, no matter how you look at it, started this whole fracas, and one has to wonder what in the world were they thinking to at this time invade the separatist province of South Ossetia. It seems that something is missing here.

I read the story in the NDN on Saturday about the South Ossetians, women, children, men, huddled in the basement of an old Synagogue, praying that God would save them.

Well, it looks like, after four days, God answered their prayers, and the Russians came to their rescue.

Listening to their terrible experience and how hundreds of Ossetians were just outright killed, mowed down by the Georgians in their butal attempt to take over that province and make it Georgia's elicits compassion for those people.

I'd say the Russians were Knights in Shining Armor to them, and now, for sure, they'll never want to be a part of Georgia with whom they have no affiliations or common background anyway.

I wonder why after 15 years of their independence Georgia desided now to invade them. Maybe they tried before; I don't know, but it seems strange that Georgia would do that now without outside assurance that they would be backed up. Maybe, we gave them that assurance. I wouldn't put it past Bush.

Also, notice how McCain, rash and thoughtless as always jumped right in and backed Georgia and offered them our promise to help rebuild them.

Good grief. Will those ignoramouses never quit?

I think you are right about Georgia invading South Ossetia first. Why do nations want to keep people under their control who want independance or be part of another country? We see it all the time with dire consequences. The Kurds want their own nation, but Iran, Iraq, and Turkey want to keep them seperated in their countries. Why can't the Kurds have their own country? There seems to be so much injustice in this world that it is very disheartening. The larger powers want to fix borders disregarding the wishes of the people who live there. Israel and Palestinians can't get along, because everyone wants to change borders and invade each other. Why can't people live where they want and not be fighting all the time?

jfriccio, people who served in Vietnam know the Kerry story and how he came up with his story. He's a guy who went to Nam with cameras and an agenda. Stayed three months, three months of a years tour after he got his pictures and obtained his Purple Hearts, wounds which never gave him scars, never caused him to miss duty, and allowed him to move on to be an Admiral's Aide. He bailed out. Your hero bailed out. And that's only the beginning of that guys story. Some hero.

DinNaples, I noticed that after Obama was criticized for saying in the beginning of the Georgia and Russian invasion that we should keep cool and go to the UN for a non partisan look at the situation. It's somewhat involved and takes some discussion and probably compromise to settle this vast disagreement between those three groups since Abskazia is involved too.

What we don't want to do is immediately blame and alienate Russia. They feel they have a valid reason for doing what they did.

I think because everyone was jumping on the Georgian bandwagon that Obama did too, and I didn't like that. His first response, his gut response, was correct. The second was a worry people would perceive him on the wrong side. That was political expediency, and something we know they all do.

Well, all this attack on Obama by people defending the worst administration in my lifetime is pretty amusing.

Where would one start: Enron, Bush AWOL, Bush a drunk until Laura was going to chuck him and then, oh, he had an awakening, he was born again. Well, he was born again all right, but where? He's still the failure he was and the liar too. Old Bushy boy had quite a past, so can we start talking about the future now?

Oh, first, I forgot,Cheney on Bush's vetting committee for V.P. appointed himself. What a guy!

Then McCain has the Keating five and a father in law connected to the mob years ago.

But, I'm interested in the future, and from what I can see, McCain is a non thinking, low intelligence, guy who blats off quickly without thinking what he's saying. He'd go to war in a second without even considering the down side or what it would take.

Now he seems to support the draft from what that one town meeting showed where he agreed with one of the attendees.

That's all we need is a draft for Bush/McCain to have more lives to play with, you know, like in a video game. After all, that bunch is like a bunch of kids who don't know foreign affairs or other countries or history or anything. And that's why we're in all this trouble.

Well, I'm sick of us being the dumpees and they being the dumpers. It's time we became the dumpers and dumped that whole bunch of them.
