Letter of the day: This is what those lines are for

Editor, Daily News:

Please be considerate.

Those white lines on the ground next to some disabled parking places are not for shopping cart storage.

As one of many wheelchair-enabled drivers, I am dependent on those white-striped access aisles. Without a clear access aisle, I cannot lower my ramp and exit my vehicle.

It is very frustrating to drive up to a space only to find that aisle full of shopping carts.

We cannot “just get out” and move them.

On a similar line, it is both illegal and inconsiderate to ever park in the access aisle, even if you have a disabled parking permit. This goes for motorcycles also! Parking even partially into this area can block access for a ramp- or lift-equipped vehicle. It can earn you a $250 ticket and you may have your car towed, even if you have a permit.

Disabled parking spaces are limited and in demand in Collier County — especially during season. Please consider others. Disabled permits are not for the car, but for use only when the permit owner is entering and exiting that vehicle. Dropping the permit owner at the door and waiting in the car is not a legal use of a disabled parking place.

It is all about consideration for others.

This is rich

Editor, Daily News:

When asked who is rich, John McCain said: “I think if you’re just talking about income, how about $5 million?”

He couldn’t really be talking about an income of $5 million per year, could he? He must be talking about net worth.

Or maybe he doesn’t understand the difference. He admitted himself that he still needs to be educated about economics.

On Dec. 17, 2007, he said he doesn’t understand economics as well as he should. Maybe this $5 million quote is an example of that.

My sense is that a person with an income of $250,000 per year is rich — or at least in the top 1.5 percent of household income.

My great fear is that if we elect McCain we will get no economic guidance in this difficult period that is being described as the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

In contrast, Barack Obama has put together an economic brain trust, a group of academics and former officials from the Clinton administration, who are offering innovative solutions to our economic problems.

If you are considering voting for McCain, please study the economic plans of both candidates before you make your choice. Your decision could be crucial to the United States retaining its position as the No. 1 economic power in the world.

Thanks to our officers

Editor, Daily News:

In every experience, there is something to be learned. At least, that’s our take.

My husband and I are both natives of Naples; we are committed to our community. An unfortunate experience helped us to realize how fortunate we are to truly be protected and served.

When our vehicle was burglarized, we contacted the Naples police. Within minutes, Officer Chris Travis responded. His professionalism and true concern were very calming as we stood amidst the broken glass.

Within minutes, he contacted the Collier County Sheriff’s Office. Thirty minutes after making the initial call, we found ourselves among a group of county and city officers and a crime-scene investigator at a nearby location where items belonging to me and several other victims were recovered.

Our children in tow, we watched the officers perform their jobs — city and county officers working in collaboration to collect needed information, then processing and returning our items.

Officers handled the situation and everyone present, including our children, with the utmost professionalism and respect. It was remarkable to witness the collaborative efforts of these officers, regardless of their jurisdiction.

At the end of the night, we were reminded that despite the ever-changing landscape of our hometown, our officers maintain the integrity and small-town dignity that makes Naples home.

Thanks to the officers of the city and county. Our children think you are heroes, and so do we!

Colleen and Josh Cornwall, Naples

The last word

Editor, Daily News:

I just read the so-called comic strip “Doonesbury,” where Gary Trudeau constantly criticizes our president. There’s no pretense of humor — just vicious, petty attacks.

Here’s a president who has kept us safe since 9/11, steered a steady course through stock market crashes and housing bubbles (and no, he had nothing to do with that) — with the Democratic Congress wailing that although they saw the danger and agreed and voted on the necessity to attack Iraq, the cowards ran for cover when it didn’t go as well and as quickly as it could have.

It must be embarrassing to have been duped by such a stupid president, not to mention wasting their majority investigating instead of accomplishing something of their own.

People like Trudeau want a quick fix, an easy answer to the world’s complex problems. Sometimes there is no quick fix and the cost is more dear and squanders the ultimate sacrifices of our brave young men.

Maybe Jimmy Carter could help President Bush deal with the Muslim killers since he and his ilk did such a great job with the Iran hostage situation.

Talking did not work then, but President Reagan fixed it immediately without saying a word. Anyone else remember?

Greg Gould, Naples

Doggone funny

Editor, Daily News:

Bob Moates’ letter regarding the purchase of a “diet food kit” and sharing it with cats and a dog was hilarious!

I wish more people would give truth in testimonials. Maybe the ad people who interrupt programs might be more creative (and honest) in the attempt to gain viewer appreciation.

Thank you for your attention.

Carol Sapienza , Naples

Let’s get it right

Editor, Daily News:

Marti Daltry, a Sierra Club organizer, wrote a guest commentary for the Daily News under the headline “Offshore drilling too risky for SW Florida.”

To prove her point she mentions the 743,000 gallons of petroleum products spilled offshore due to hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

According to the Minerals Management Service, a division of the Department of Energy, there was no loss of life and no significant oil spill or pollution from offshore drilling platforms from those storms.

Incidentally, none of that spill reached land. And that spill came from more than 3,000 drilling platforms and thousands of miles of pipeline. Compare that spill with oil-tanker accidents. The Exxon Valdez spilled 11 million gallons off the coast of Alaska. That was not even among the 10 largest oil spills in history. Seven of those were due to oil-tanker accidents. Those spills ranged from 40 to 80 million gallons.

Just recently an oil tanker and a barge collided in the Mississippi River near New Orleans and spilled 419,000 gallons of biodiesel and a million gallons of styrene.

So Daltry evidently wants us to believe that we are more prone to environmental damage from offshore drilling than from hundreds of massive oil tankers plying our waters.

Long-term, we do need to develop clean, renewable energy sources and conserve. In the meantime, we can’t run an economy that uses 100 quadrillion (100 followed by 15 zeros) Btu of energy a year with windmills.

So don’t automatically buy what the extreme-left environmentalists are selling.

Rudy Petorelli, Naples

Libya rocks

Editor, Daily News:

Kudos to guest writer Yusra Tekbali for her insight into Libya.

I had the privilege of working and living in Libya in the early 1980s. I found Libyans to be gracious, loving, kind and extraordinary to Americans in so many ways.

As a teacher, my Libyan students excelled, and it has always been painful to know that this great country and its people are not generally understood or seen for how fantastic they are.

Hurray for Mercedes Farhat, who we saw in the Olympics! Perhaps through her and others like her, Libya’s image in our country will improve.

REMEMBER Liberals/Some Dems/Children - Sticks and stones etc.

Truth/facts always trump "egos and emotions".

The political winds have shifted "big time'. Get use to it!!! Adjust your main sail, set a new course of common sense and reap what you sow. No more hand outs and free lunches (there will be exceptions of course). A strong military so that all the cry babies, whiners and complainers can continue to cry, whine, critize and complaint!

The Republicans are actually going to pull this off!! UNBELIEVABE but TRUE!!!!

Why do Liberals/Some Dems cry, whine, critize and complain... because they have the freedom to do so thanks to our strong, brave and dedicated military!! Their fear of facts, reality, small government, end of hand outs, people who work hard for their money and on and on grips them like handcuffs on one's wrists.

All together now..."Oh say can you see"...come on you can sing it!!! Wear that American flag proudly!! Use the word "GOD"!!!

Only in America and don't you forget it!!!

Have a great day and a better tomorrow!

I always thought Doonesbury was one of the funniest strips around. The characters have grown and aged and matured. Uncle Duke comes and goes (R.I.P. Hunter Thompson). BD has evolved, characters die ... the whole cast of characters rivals the Simpsons. The strips about Iraq reek of inside knowledge. Politics aside, this is truly one of the best and most enjoyable strips around.

Stick to Mallard Fillmore and leave Doonesbury alone.

Mother Nature has endorsed the OBAMANATION!!!!!!!

She too is upset at mini me and is sending a second, yes second hurricane to pee on his parade, again.

LMAO.

You fella's ever hear of kharma?

We hung Japanese officers for water boarding American troops during WWII. Yet mini me mcsame supports such crap. Shame on him.

Makes me wonder if all the stories of his alleged abuse are just that, stories. It is inconceivable that a person who suffered such heinous treatment would then wish to inflict such pain on others.

Kinda leaves one wondering about the veracity of his alleged asset, war hero.

Hmmm. Karl Rove would have a field day with that.

Either way, Mother Nature has voted. Pee on mini me mcsame.

#3 Posted by boulderbilly on August 30, 2008 at 9:53 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Any one up for swift boating a Viet Nam vet?

Jeez, what was I thinking? Only some low life desperate hypocrites would do that.

The OBAMANATION will continue on the high road and let mini me go negative. You don't have any choice when you DO NOT have a single positive result to hang your hat on after being in charge the last eight years. The neocons must attack the other guy. HE MUST BE WORSE THAN US!!!!!!

LMAO.

Sorry guys, the proof is in the pudding. You had your chance the last eight years.....

Our guy is WAY OUT of your league.

Enjoy the ride home.

#4 Posted by boulderbilly on August 30, 2008 at 10:10 p.m. (Suggest removal)

The simplest of all questions. The one the neocons dread the most.

Are you better off now after eight years of neocon leadership?

If so, you must vote for more of the mcsame. mini me has promised to deliver just that.

Well?

The choice is yours.

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a must see concerning mcsame.

Greg Gould Any relation to Chester Gould? I think the latter did Dick Tracy who caught "Flathead", probably another Republican. I concur with the suggestion about you, Greg, forget about Doonesberry and stick with an "unbiased" strip like Millard Fillmore, more to your degenerate liking.

And about Ronnie Reagan scaring the bee gee bees out of the Iranis etc. Yeh, the 241 Marines that lost their lives in Lebanon would be very impressed, if they were alive. But we did "conquer" Grenada as a consolation "prize". It was another "demonstration" of GOP "strategic thinking in a crisis". Oh well Ronnie did pull out the New Jersey from mothballs and lobbed those shells into Bierut! That had to create a few jobs and a couple of bucks for some of his "contributors".

#7 Posted by Elephanttamer on August 30, 2008 at 11 p.m. (Suggest removal)

President Bush is scheduled to speak? You can't be serious? He is actually concerned enough to go to New Orleans this time?

I forgot. His boy Brownie is gonna do "one helluva job" again!!!!!!!

LOL.

Wow. Glad I don't have to defend the worst President in history. And try to vote in someone that actually has the potential to eclipse that mediocrity.

LMAO.

#8 Posted by boulderbilly on August 30, 2008 at 11:04 p.m. (Suggest removal)

#1 Knital - Your platitudes are a series of whines today! You keep using that word, but I have to admit. You PRACTICE what you preach! Whining is the new "motto" of the GOP. God bless Phil Gramm the Enron man!!! His "wake up" call to Americans will surely induce them to subject themselves to 4 more years of "trickle down economics". Thank God for rich Republicans that know what's good for workers and consumers. What a "blessing".

#9 Posted by Elephanttamer on August 30, 2008 at 11:08 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Rudy Petorelli - You sound like a Bush/McCain oil man! "None of that spill reached land". By comparison, we should be grateful by the Exxon-Valdez spill and its devastation. You definitely are a "lesser of two evils kind of guy". I wonder who you will vote for in November? Sure I do!

#10 Posted by Elephanttamer on August 30, 2008 at 11:15 p.m. (Suggest removal)

It was a simple question, the hardest for those responsible for eight disastrous years to answer.

Dancin, dancin, dancin, They're the dancin machine!!!!!!

Well, are you better off after eight years of their policies, which they are more than happy to own.

Well?

The silence is deafening. Perhaps they can break it by listing all the Republican successes?

Ummmmmmm, well???????

LMAO. This is too easy, like clubbing baby seals.

Time to go out and celebrate the OBAMANATION with Main St. America.

Good night and God bless.

#11 Posted by boulderbilly on August 30, 2008 at 11:18 p.m. (Suggest removal)

#14 Inquisitive, I don't think so. That would require "waking up " Bushie and now after 6 years of GOP control of congress, he has discovered a "new toy" - a veto!

#12 Posted by Elephanttamer on August 30, 2008 at 11:18 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Don't you worry Inquis, we'll get around to the economy come January.

Oh, you were gonna tell us about all of the successes of your president and why mini me can deliver more of the same?

We'll wait...........

Baby seals. LOL.

Gotta be like defending a child molesting priest.........

#13 Posted by boulderbilly on August 30, 2008 at 11:23 p.m. (Suggest removal)

But those same priests donate an awful lot of money to the Republican Christian leadership. That explains their support for each other.

BTW, it's 10:00 P.M.

Do you know where your kids are?

#14 Posted by boulderbilly on August 30, 2008 at 11:28 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Has anyone used the term "Hail Mary"?

I really think its beyond that.

Do the republicans know its a lost vote and she's expendable?

Picking a vice president is loaded with considerations...one of them being choosing the person that can be the leader of the country in case something happens to the president

Can you expect that from a mom with four kids at home one of them being a 5 m/o thats going to need extra attention?

I voted for Hillary. I'm not anti-female. This choice just seems unrealistic for that type responsibility.

Would it make more sense that they didnt want to damage the political career of someone they can run in 2012?

That makes her a "Hail Mary"

#15 Posted by memphismedic on August 31, 2008 at 12:37 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I watched a man tell his family goodbye today with more courage than I've ever seen in my life.

He had a AAA

Never shed a tear. Completely Brave

I only hope I'm that stand up of a guy when its my turn.

Greg, You can not really believe anything you put in your LTE. So why write it a embarrass yourself?
Do you notice your nieghbors shaking thier heads or maybe chuckling when they see you?
Greg, listen to your wife, for your own good, don't write or even speak anymore unless your just looking for pity.

#17 Posted by bossman1 on August 31, 2008 at 5:04 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Can anyone honestly think they are going to be taken serious when all they write is ROFL, etc.?

Fact is, the liberals are screaming about a phone call made from the Governor of Alaska's office regarding an ex-brother-in-law.

This is the shocking scandal they brought up as her name was being announced.

But they played right into the hands of Karl Rove, because the scandals that Obama drags behind him are going to be brought to light.

Obama is weak.
Biden is a good ol' boy.
They have no plan.
They are all for late-term abortion.
Obama hangs out with cop killing terrorists.
Tony Rezko helped him buy a house with money that might have been stolen from Iraq.
Need we go on?

#18 Posted by GoneFishin on August 31, 2008 at 5:21 a.m. (Suggest removal)

CNN did a good report on the recent housing crisis and it's worth watching. Experts and those involved all sides contributing.
President Bush in 2002 gave a public speech, told the congress, and the banking and mortgage
industry that we must find a way to put more Americans in thier own homes. Well everyone went to work, the banking lobbists, congress, mortgage lenders and insurers, and wallstreet. The greed set in, buy a house with no money down, inflated appraisals, 125% loans, and of course adjustable interest rates.
Six years later the home ownership is the same as it was in 2002, with foreclosure's, bankruptcy at the highest levels since the depression. And those CEO's who started this mess and made 100's of million of dollars? President Bush jr gives them ambassadorships for a job well done.

THANK YOU FOR MAKING OUR POINT.

Fish, don't you ever stop your lieing? You have gone from 'spinmaster' to just outright lieing. Have you lost is completely? Even 'rock head' now makes as much sense as you which is 'none at all'.
/////////////////////////////////////
McCain's VP pick Palin, the Gov of Alaska is being investigated by the an independent investigator, started long before McCain even thought of Palin as VP. Who asked for and is paying for this investigation? The Alaskan legislature, hardly controlled by Democrat's.
Palin may be proved completely inocent of the charges against her, but it's hardly just the Democrat's who think she is using her power in an illegal manner.

#23 Posted by bossman1 on August 31, 2008 at 6:48 a.m. (Suggest removal)

boss, you just proved yourself the fool for Rove.

Keep thinking that phone call is important, because the facts about Obama a starting to roll down the hill.

Obama is weak.
Biden is a good ol' boy.
They have no plan.
They are all for late-term abortion.
Obama hangs out with cop killing terrorists.
Tony Rezko helped him buy a house with money that might have been stolen from Iraq.

You can't argue with those facts.

Oh, how about the time line for Obama's change of opinion on Iraq. Hmm. Two weeks after Rezko loses his multi-million-dollar power company in Iraq, Obama says the war is un-winnable.

Keep dreaming the facts are lies, idjuts!

#24 Posted by GoneFishin on August 31, 2008 at 9 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Come on now, prove me lying.

Come on, how is Obama such a great guy?

Nah, he doesn't have parties at the home of cop killing terrorists.

Prove that wrong? Can you?
No!

Oh Boy! Gonefishin, you are at your "best" today. Those rough waters in the Gulf have taken their toll and really made you "sick".

Reczko vs Abramoff What a match! Want to compare "notes"? You might be embarrassed a bit so I won't go tit for tat.

Palin "stirs" up the GOP "base" a.k.a. base-less. This is the new "battle cry" of the Bushies and Dick Cheney advocates. It's an exercise in re-arranging the deck chairs of the RNC "Titanic". It's a gone fishing "out to lunch" strategy that will ultimately fail.

One more thing. The gasping reference to abortion in the hope of stirring up the base to a duplicate effort that helped carry Ohio in 2004, along with GOP ballot manipulation, is an ignorant gesture in medieval thinking. It always amazes that there are people that believe that over turning Roe vs. Wade will eliminate abortions and its consequences. Well, if that does happen, the people who make coat hangers will see an increase in sales and America will have another "bootleg" reality to deal with. Too deep for conservative reactionaries to comprehend.

#28 Posted by Elephanttamer on August 31, 2008 at 10:13 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Hey Gonefishin: Did you notice that McCain and Palin's names both "end" in "in"! I wonder if that is an omen that indicates they will win the election or that they are in deep you know what?

After the debates the "in" will be decided effectively. Maybe Rush can "sub" for both or either? Sean with some more RNC "talking points" would be a good "show" as well.

#29 Posted by Elephanttamer on August 31, 2008 at 10:20 a.m. (Suggest removal)

GoneFishin has to secure his boat for the storm.

It will take a few minutes to let all the air out and fold it up.

Thank God for his Popeil pocket fisherman. He can shore up all of his tackle up and put it in his shirt pocket should he need to evacuate.

Chickenhawk.

LOL.

Still waiting to hear about all those successes........

Yawn.

Too embarrased to appear after being cornered and exposed, so sad.

I don't like either Doonesbury or Mallard Duck. They are not comics, but political . I can't understand Doonesbury most of the time, so I quit reading it. Some of the the comics are funny. Some have violence. Others don't make much sense. Humor has changed for the worse in recent years.

#7 Rejoice: Walla! You have revealed your "assessment" of what a president's duties in office shouldn't be - a merrionette act! That is total Bushie's excuse for sitting on his dufus and watching American jobs leave the country and wages and incomes of workers go into the sewer. All those bills in congress that aren't "fashioned" to the GOP's liking are responsible for the current economic thrust to appease the Chinese and trading partners who discriminate against American exports in the name of "balancing" their corruptive, nationalistic aims. The Bush administration's policies reflect on the president's office and "beating the bushes" (pun) to cloud his inefficiencies is just another derelict Republican smoke screen.

Let's see now. The GOP has formed a duo consisting of a guy who surrendered in Viet Nam and a "hockey mom" who doubles as the Commander of the Alaska National Guard. These two are to lead us to "victory" in Iraq and domestic prosperity fueled by "trickle down economics".

That's quite an assumption! These "objectives" are "sprinkled" with patriotic slogans and propaganda designed to "stimulate" the masses.

It reminds me of when I was a boy and following WWII. The Japs had attacked Wake Island and the marine garrison had repelled the initial invasion attempts. Major Donovan contacted Pearl Harbor and related events whence Pearl asked if they could help in some way if possible. Major Donovan supposedly replied: "Send us more Japs". It was very "electrifying" and patriotic towards the cause. Unfortunately, Major Donovan got his "wish" although not from Pearl Harbor. McCain and Palin may need a "wake" in the next few weeks.

I love the neocon pundits analysis.

"Palin knows a lot about international relations because she is from Alaska. And that's right next to Russia."

Grasping for straws. The neocons are so far out of touch that they think Hillary's supporters will fall in line because she is a woman. Even though she is a staunchly against a womans right to choose, is joining an old white guy that thinks women don't deserve equal pay, and has absolutely no experience.

Yup, Hillary supporters will throw out all their core values and vote for Barbie because mini me's choice visits the gynecologist.

LMAO.

They don't see the bus comin'.

The neocons have finally imploded.

elephant dung, a new low for you.

RE #43 & #44 Gonefishin ramblings: #43 and the Rezko "con-nection". We still haven't seen anything beyond an accusation coming from your rants. Spell it out if you have the "evidence". The legal system and Fitzgerald don't have a fix either. Of course, Fitzgerald was a little "wishy-washy" with "Scooter's" testimony, but Scooter is now a "pardoned felon" thanks to Bushie.

#44 Palin the leader? She's a "bridge to nowhere" that will soon be evident to all in the coming weeks. I love that connection with oil again. Her hubby is a red neck BP oil man by her own admission. Isn't that special? It appears that her credentials are just something short of a Cub Scout mother of five. Stay at home moms will be "swept off their feet" by Sarah's ability to run a household and the "big" state of Alaska as well. Man, talk about "red meat". "Mooseburgers" around.

Lastly, Iraq has been off the media's "radar screen" with the primary and hurricane seasons. Perhaps an investigation of the "surge's success" will be revealed with a new administration. The taxpayers may see just how "well spent" their money has been allocated to the feuding elements in Iraq. Nation ransom?
Keep tuned!

Rezko helped Barry buy a house, but you just refuse to believe there was anything behind that curtain. Even Barry called it bone headed. But, how come he just doesn't buy the land and be done with it? Because he's bone headed.

Hmmmm successes?

The list doesn't exist? Oh, now I understand.

Vote for me!!! I have nothing positive to offer. But the other guy IS WORSE THAN ME!!!!

Rove fear factor in action. If ya can't convince them that yoou have anything to offer, than try to scare the hell out of them.

Desperate Hail Mary.

I love Sarah Palin. She is the answer to our prayers. An expert on international relations AND Santa Claus simply because she lives in Alaska.

Her political stands, diametrically opposed by 90% od Hillary's supporters, pretty much locks it up.

mini me's choice could not be more demeaning to women. Anti-equal pay and is adamantly opposed to a woman's right to choose?

THANK YOU MINI ME!!!!!!!

Hell, I thought he was still on vacation. The one he left for when Russia invaded Georgia. That wasn't important either. LOL.

Here is a freebie, something you neocons can hang your hat on.

A great accomplishment after eight years of neoncon stewardship of our great country is.... ya ready?

President Bush has crushed the long standing record of......MORE VACATION DAYS than any other President in US history!!!!!!!!!!!

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not every American gets to take 600 plus, yes 600 vacation days in 8 years.

Thats 3 months a year.

OUTSTANDING JOB MR. PRESIDENT, I SALUTE YOU!!!!!

I'm sure your only accomplishment will stand for eternity. Let's hope.

LMAO.

Thank God he was our laziest President. 600 plus days? Jeez, that's almost two years. This country could not have survived two more years of his debacles.

#65 Rejoice: You are really delusional. Your "deformed mentality injects a presumption of what the Democratic reaction would have been in a similar situation. You are totally ignorant of what the word compassionate means as "exploited" by Republican neocons led by George W. Bush.

Hurricane Gustav is a "redemption" for the GOP that may be able to avoid "exposing" their "failures" at their convention. You should thank the Reverend Dobson and Pat Robertson for invoking their God to pre-empt the Republican convention to avoid exposing the likes of Bush and Cheney for more public embarassment. McCain will have all to do to mask his shortcomings and the GOP record of corruption and malfeasance.

#58 MikeM Amazingly you are a "defender" of the office of the presidency notwithstanding any extenuating circumstances. I bet you felt that way during the Clinton administration as well . Your fraudulent "patriotic" premise is disgusting in its application only revealing your demented mentality.

#60 Rejoice: So Sarah Palin is the "conservative SUPER MOM! Liberal moms need the government to assist them in raising their families. Is that convuluted logic or what? It's MORONIC and typical of a psychotically deformed mentality that has plagued our nation the last 8 years and wants to continue the madness for another 4 years. Rejoice, you are either a spintress, or a naive "wanna been", but certainly not a mother. You need some "experience">

All you Neo Con Bush/McCain lovers, Obama's been accused of nothing illegal by anyone. He's been charged with nothing illegal or proved he did anything illegal. So, can you go on to something else? It's too boring for words, and there's nothing there.

I know it's hard when you have nothing to run on, but could you at least harp on something else for a change?

Also, we realize you can't list an accomplishment of George Bush, and that's why we see none.

Also, I'm a femminist who believes in women's rights to choose in abortion. I strongly believe her body is her own. However, I also know this doesn't mean she's no longer a woman.

When a woman chooses a job then she should take that job seriously. That's why women have fought to give women controll of their bodies, so they could go out and seek professions.

But, being a feminist doesn't mean I don't think one should be a horrible mother either. And, as I've said, if you're so dang pro life and you have a baby with Down's Syndrome, you don't dump that baby and go out for your own high powered career and glory. THAT'S NOT PRO LIFE.

You right wingers are so mixed up you can't think straight. And you know too, that women wouldn't have any choices except pregnancy and child raising if it were up to you. I doubt women would even have the right to vote.

Margaret Sanger and other women were thrown in jail just for advocating contraception. Women were coming to Margaret and others in droves, begging them for something so they wouldn't be pregnant year after year and then die in child birth. Right Wing men scoffed at them.

And the only reason, you Right Wingers think it's okay now for Palin to seek this high powered demanding political job in spite of her probably getting pregnant again any time, is because you have to keep a stiff upper lip and support a choice you're stuck with.

Also, this woman hasn't even given Iraq much thought. Doesn't that make your blood curdle a little? Also, being she said she's as pro life as one can be, I know she wouldn't support a woman's or a girl's choice for an abortion even in cases of rape and incest. How's that for a mother of daughters who could be victims.

But what does she care? Obviously she's totally interested in herself only, oh, and, of course, what of her Pentacostal beliefs she can get passed into law and shoved down our throats.

Any woman who votes for that poor excuse of a woman has to have her head examined. She's absolutely the worst representative of women one could find.

DISASTER versus OPPORTUNITY! The Bush Neocon oil cartel is in the process of "conditioning" the populace to accept $5 a gallon gasoline as a result of the catastrophic storm Gustav. It is another of their ploys to profit at the expense of public ignorance. These "thieves", "criminals" have only collaborated in creating a scenario that benefits their financial interests.

This is the time of OPPORTUNITY for a "nation" like Iraq to show its gratitude and declare that it will not abide by OPEC production quotas and pump all the oil necessary to make up any difference in short falls from the Gustav episode. It is the least they can do for our "redemption" and "promotion" of democracy in their country. Will they do it? Ask Bushie and Cheney. Ask the neocons and the conservative Republicans who promote "free enterprise" and "capitalism". Cowards! You bet. SCUM! absolutely.

This administration is corrupt and its adherents directly linked to a record of treason, malfeasance and utter futility in seeking self advantage.

If I remember correctly, there was an inordinate amount of interest by the neocons concerning MICHELLE O's rear end.

Perhaps they would like to take a moment to enlighten us about Ms. Palins butt?

Re: #81 Anonymous 100 - Thank you for coming to the fore. It will be a pleasure to "expose" you and your corrupt "queue".

Yes, in the 70s, President Carter alerted the country for a need to conserve and address the energy crisis. The oil cartel had other ideas in "adjusting" to the warning and seducing the consumer for future and eventual "reaping and "raping".

Ask an American if he wants a tax cut and he will say yes unanimously. Ask him if he wants a tax cut if it will jeopardize his basic existence and you will see a much different answer. Simplistic propositions produce simplistic, idiotic and stupid answers that serve the purposes of those who stand to benefit from the deceit.

The Pelosi/Reid behavior in congress is only the result of an adamant Bush veto proof congress intent on maintaining their corruptive practices of the previous six years. I, for one, would have encouraged the exercise in futility to expose the GOP, but the Democrats seem to have decided otherwise for whatever reason. It may be "political courtesy" that has undermined the confidence of all public officials. It is a sin and despicable.

As to your very impressive figures on energy reserves in our country, I couldn't agree more hardily. You refer to the 70s, a crisis era. did you know that your oil companies were instrumental in defeating efforts by competitive elements to develop the shale lands in Utah etc.? They bought into the industry and torpedoed it by a campaign of promoting the "contamination concept" and the necessity of erecting scrubbers with potential pollution threats. It was a conspiracy to destroy competition to conventional oil drilling interests. I observed the counterproductive selfish effort on behalf of "big business" financial superiority and influence.

Shale can still be developed and the "red states" of Utah, Colorado and Wyoming should do their "patriotic" duty to resolve the energy crisis in the name of conservative Republican "doctrine". It's fitting and so delectale for campaign rhetoric, except in Utah, Colorado and Wyoming - "Not in my back yard!" I can see why you are "anonymous" - Is that 100%?

FOX Noise is making the case that McCain and Palin are "addressing" the potential calamity from Hurrican Gustav. Where are Bush & Cheney? Oh, it doesn't make too much difference since McCain and Bush are "tied at the hip" and the Cheney/Palin role is to seek "shelter". Where is Brownie? FEMA better be up to GOP political aspirations or else!

Wow, when I mentioned choice in contraception and abortion, all of a sudden we're talking eugenics and bigotry toward blacks. What a bunch of racists. You showed your colors bright as can be.

Did you Right Wing Bozos miss the word CHOICE. Who is talking about making anyone do anything they don't want.

As far as Margaret Sanger goes, I read about her and nowhere did I read about her advocacy of Eugenics. What I did read was desparate women coming to her after having so many children they couldn't handle it anymore.

You probably don't know, you chauvinistic Right Wingers that some women get violently ill during pregnancy. It's a very difficult condition.

Since Margaret had travelled to England and had learned of some contraceptive measures, she brought them back. She was motivated because her own mother died in childbirth having her, I think, twelth child.

Women were bound to the house, couldn't get any kind of profession or job unless they were born of privilege. And also, the privileged could travel outside the country to get birth control or abortion if needed.

So, don't throw in the "eugenics" trick, you hypocrits. It doesn't play or apply. "Choice" is the word.

Also, Bush and his Neo Cons had 6 years to drill in this country and the ANWR or develop shale. They did "nothing." Got that, you neo cons, "nothing."

So quit dumping on the Democrats for not doing anything with Bush's veto ready to slam them.

That also goes for Impeachment. They didn't have the numbers to do that either. God, you Neo Cons are dumb.

Lassie, I agree with you. Ron Paul was the one, but the Neo Cons wouldn't let him see the light of day. I donate to him. He sends out His Freedom Report regularly. Also, the American Free Press endorsed him and tried to help his candidacy. That's a good weekly paper that gives you news you don't hear much about in the regular press.

But, since we can't have Ron Paul, Barack Obama is certainly the next best and head and shoulders above McCain who is mega miles apart from Paul in foreign policy.

McCain is dangerous, and his running mate knows nothing except local Alaskan politics. I love this country too much to give us more, or even worse, of what we've had these last nearly 8 years.

Read through some gibberish.

Truth is:

The Obama/Rezko property closed on the same day.

Rezko paid full boat.

Obama got a discount.

#66 Posted by GoneFishin on August 31, 2008 at 8:23 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Gonefishin......this story has intriqued me for some time so I have looked at every story that I could find....from both sides and the middle...and all say that the Obama's bid for the house was the highest bid (according to the real estate agent) of several bids....no "discount"

Rezko's wife bought the vacant land for market value and according to the doctor who owned both properties he insisted both sales close the same day

Obama admits he could not afford to buy both the house and the vacant lot at that time

Rezko's wife later sold a strip of the lot to Obama for $104 thousand plus and then later sold the rest to another party for an overall profit of about $55,000

the only "fly in the ointment" if you will was the optics of doing a business deal with Rezko's wife while he was under indictment...which Obama says he regrets

#94 Rejoice: About Colin Powell, I think it had something to do with Colin's "mission" to the United Nations to make the case for WMDs in Iraq and our invasion. It seems he got caught in what turned out to be lies (you know what those are Rejoice, don't you now!) that Bush and his "team" fed him. Poor Colin got "used" by Bushie, Cheney and Rove etc. Nasty business, but something Sowell would subscribe to in a "New York minute". (In case you don't get it, the UN is located in New York.) I know it's kind of "deep" for your "intellect".

A few corrections:

Doonesbury has been the most consistently funny, poignant, and insightful source of political and social commentary in American life since its inception. Garry Trudeau is a national treasure.

Jimmy Carter freed the hostages.

The oil age has ended. Further drilling is stupid and immoral.
