KEVIN JOHNSON

Sports Editor - Banner

My earliest recollection of newspapers involved a puppy and Watergate. I guess what the puppy was depositing on those newspapers is what Nixon was doing to the country. At age 5, all I knew is that both caused a big stink.

I wish I could say my journalistic curiosity was piqued by Woodward and Bernstein, but it was more (John) Wooden and Bernie (Carbo) that steered me toward a career in reporting.

After growing up in Windsor Locks, Conn., I split my college years between Ohio State and Arizona State. I arrived in Florida in 2005 after working for seven years as editor of a weekly newspaper in Enfield, Conn., and serving as public-relations director for an Eastern Junior Hockey League team.

The sports section is still the most vital part of a newspaper to me, though I grimly admit that obituaries seem to be gaining significance.

I enjoy being the sports editor for Lee County and welcome all comments and suggestions. Better yet, a friendly "hello" at a game.
