I just woke up about an hour ago. I think these 4am shoppers need to get a life.

volochine--Walgreens and CVS make as much or more of their profit off of all the sandals, picture development, cosmetics, etc. as they do the pharmacy. In fact, there are many stores that make more up front than in the pharmacy. Finally, pharmacies make very little money filling prescriptions for Medicare and Medicaid! They make their money off of private insurance, worker's comp, and customers who pay cash. The margins on Medicare are the slimmest.

Good for them! It is refreshing to see someone run a successful independant pharmacy in the face of all the competition from national chains. I only have one thing to add: do not go to a Walgreens if you actually want to experience customer service. They are terrible!

My personal opinion is that the NDN was too heavily dependant upon classified charges and Real Estate advertisements. For a while, I worked for a company with locations in almost every state. I was told by our corporate office that it was more expensive to advertise for an open position in the NDN than in papers in Chicago, NYC, etc. I could not get over it. Then I sat down and looked at the Sunday paper. Multiple sections of Real Estate advertisements, a section of jobs and classified subjects, and the coupons. Now, the Sunday paper is MUCH lighter than it was a few years ago...primarily due to the collapse of Real Estate. Perhaps the NDN should have concentrated on diversification in their revenue streams about four years ago (during the boom) and they could have reacted more quickly to the Real Estate collapse. Real Estate created MANY jobs that are no longer here...in all sectors of the local economy.

Good move Lee County! While I am not a Red Sox fan, I do enjoy watching baseball games. I think your new location will be excellent, and I look forward to attending ballgames.
For any of you who have not been to a Red Sox spring training game, you have no idea how many folks come here to see the games. I have yet to sit by a local in 10 years! Almost all attendees are from New England on vacation. The Red Sox are a huge financial draw to our community. I am glad to see them stay.

I am no fan of Thompson either, but folks are being stupid if they don't vote YES on the referndum. If it fails, property taxes will increase next year. Now, that is not a better alternative.
