Ave Maria is proud of this? A food contractor has to teach their students about wasting food?

Ave Maria - If you intended this to be a "be like us" story on the virtues of your school, it backfired.

demo24 - You should say "Monaghan" chose Gyrene because Monaghan was a Marine, 50 years ago, for a 3 year non-combat stint. That is the only connection to AMU as an institution. It is the most incoherent mascot in all of college sports. A school that takes its name after the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus, chooses as its mascot the Marines! Then, this school that upholds the Marines fires its first basketball coach, not for moral turpitude but for swearing. Ever hear a drill sergeant talk?

This is a school that has stroking Tom Monaghan's vanity at the top of its inconsistent mission.

What am I missing here? How does this fix anything? Paul Roney, Monaghan's CEO, is still governing Ave Maria. It makes little difference if Baird was elected. He is a Baron Collier man, just as Goguen was. The conflict still exists. Baird and Roney still represent Monaghan and the Colliers when running Ave Maria's government. Please tell me how this arrangement fosters more Sunshine compliance.

Someone said: "If the incident didn't warrant police intervention, then I really doubt it was as big a deal as Mr Dillon puts forth."

You miss the point. Ave Maria admitted that it only selectively reports incidents to the police. That should give everyone pause. The incident involving help provided by Ave Maria School of Law to a priest investigated for child pornography, and the School's choice to not report their involvement to the police, is yet another example.

I do not trust Ave Maria to be forthcoming, and am glad that Naples Daily is keeping an eye on things. Thank you, Liam Dillon.

"While you have a small point, remember these so-called "bought deeds" are building dreams for many first time home buyers who work at Ave Maria, too."

Haha. Yeah, if there is such a large number of first time buyers, then why were the Ave Maria developers the first in our state to ask for a change to their affordable housing income requirement, up $30,000? Back in May, Naples Daily News reported that 32 of the then 36 sales in the affordable Middlebrooke area were sold to AMU.

The July 17 NDN said "All areas covered by the (Naples Area Board of Realtors) report, except Immokalee and Ave Maria, saw an increase in pending sales in June. "

The June 13 NDN quoted a Century 21 realtor who said that people working in Ave Maria don't want to live out there - "His office is seeing a lot of activity at the “very high end” and in eastern Collier County, particularly in Golden Gate Estates. "A lot of activity is coming from Ave Maria, from people who work out there and they don’t want to live at Ave Maria,” Hummel said.

AMU might be increasing its student class size, but that won't increase home sales. There is no indication that enrollment was followed by an increase in new professors. The Law School's decision to go to Naples, rather than the Town, was a huge loss in home sales and higher-end graduate student rentals.

Tom Monaghan was supposed to bring in the wealthy Catholic conservatives from all over the country to buy houses. The fact is, Monaghan didn't deliver. The Colliers played him like a yankee bumpkin, using him to get their road eastward. Blake Gabel said last month "Without Oil Well Road there is no Ave Maria."

Sorry, but this latest article by NDN is a puff piece.

Hey Liam. How about adjusting the 295 deeds to account for the many that Ave Maria University bought itself? Now, how good is this development doing?

Something does not jive here.

AMU is all about flash and big press events. Why was there no joint AMU-Diocese announcement or press release?

Think about it. Healy releases this internal memo, then neither AMU nor the Diocese have anything prepared to say?!

Can a bishop give permission to celebrate Mass in a location that is not a formal church without that location becoming a formal church by virtue of the Mass?

Of course! AMU has held mass in tents in tomato fields. AMU could have had Mass with the Bishop in the chapel, which he already approved. That's not the point. AMU was not asking for a temporary permit to have Mass in the oratory. Again, the whole point of the grand celebration was to commemorate AMU's ability to have mass in the structure on a REGULAR basis. They scheduled the celebration BEFORE the Bishop even approved anything to celebrate. Pure arrogance.

You are defending the indefensible, YeOlde. AMU counted its chickens before they were hatched and got caught.
